Greetings and welcome to the "Monthly Writing Prompt" thread! As the title and that sentence stated, every month (usually on the 1st, unless something goes horribly wrong), a new prompt will be given for your writing pleasure. If you choose to take this up, you have, well, the whole month to do it! At the end of the month, I may or may not judge/say which ones are my favorites.

For now, it's just a friendly thing. If this picks up, this may be a contest thread, for various prizes!

So, you ask, just what's my prompt? Well, I am glad you asked!

Halloween is here! Goblins, ghouls, ghosts, gangrenous gerbils (??) are out and abound, collecting all the sweets they can snag! But you're not writing the good parts. No no... Fear. So, write a short story about scaring someone, or just someone being frightened. It doesn't have to be too long. A few paragraphs is fine with me. (You uh... you do know how to do a paragraph right?), but make it as long as you feel you need to to get the theme across.

So remember: The prompt for this month is Fear.

I can feel myself becoming weaker, and the thought terrifies me. Here, in my home tree, I feel so safe, but like those before me, I know what is coming. My time in the home tree has been happy, but with each coming day I grow more tired and my hold on Home Tree is becoming weaker and the wind only becomes stronger. I fear for the day that it breaks me, and I am carried away from my Tree.

I've heard stories of others like me becoming ground up, children piling my kind and jumping blissfully into our crunching bodies, laughing merrily as the destroy what is left of my fallen ancestors. The others tell me that a few elders had managed to hold to the Home Tree through the bitter snows, but their efforts were lost eventually.

The wind picks up, and I feel myself lifting against it. No. Not today.

I use all of my remaining energy to hold my position on Home Tree, desperate to stay as I feel the others leaving.

"Come with us," they call, floating down to the ground.

"Not today," I say, still holding on.

Just one more day.

[It's about a leaf. I hope you enjoyed it, because I had fun typing it out, even if it's not the best!]

Stepping lightly into the crisp air, Andrea pulled her jacket around her shoulders to block the cool wind. The trees had already begun to change from their brilliant green to shades of radiant red and glistening gold. Lifting her nose, she caught the faint scent of pumpkin spice floating towards her apartment from the bakery nearby. She sighed happily as she took her first strides into the autumn breeze.
"What a wonderful morning." she announced to no one in particular, as she strode down the bustling street. Vendors had hung cheerful, cranberry wreaths on their store fronts and the aroma of cinnamon and pumpkin were everywhere. Hand print turkeys decorated windows and doors, and spooky ghosts and skeletons dangled from the overhanging trees.
Andrea stopped at her favorite cafe to pick up an apple cider and ginger snap and made her way to Remington Park. Leaves fell slowly to the ground, as children gathered them to jump into. Sitting on the edge of the parks fountain, she allowed herself to take in the beauty and wonder of it all.
"This will be the best fall ever!" she exclaimed happily.

I did enjoy reading this one. Unique take on the prompt, and it does get the feel across that autumn is on its way!

Hehe, a nice casual story, giving details on what goes on when the upcoming holidays start getting closer, and the excitement that if can bring.

Well done both of you!

Leaves with hues of red yellow and orange about my feet, I stride happily down the street. Fake webbing about bushes and plastic graves strewn throughout yards, a sense of childish glee would bubble it's way in my chest at the thought of costumes and candy of childhoods past. Though I am past the age, others would soon be knocking for their sweets. Just the thought of a little red riding hood braving the walk to my front door could make me giddy, but I had to keep my excitement in check as I neared the home improvement store. I needed a short list of things before my night could start, so as I neared the sliding doors I tossed my hair back and strode indoors. That's when I saw it, the horror which blinded me. A giant red suited monster stood waving at the door, a stupid chubby cheeked grin across his face. White sparkling deer and fake snow blowing, pine scented trees littered with annoying colorful lights. It was here, the worst of all the holidays come two months early. I dropped to my knees and screamed, Christmas was already here.

Okay, I got a nice chuckle out of this. Very unexpected ending. Well done!

Fall

In the spring the world takes a breathe, it inhales oxygen making things come alive.Flower begin to bloom, and warmer days arrive.Fall is the opposite, it is an exhale bringing relief. Fall is a chance for new beginnings,a end to grief. The wind becomes cold, as people cling too their sweaters. The leaves change from green to golden brown, making their way from the sky too the ground. All the worries of the world fade to gray winter time is on its way.

( I dont even know what to call this its terrible ! Enjoy)

Hehe, very nice, very poetic. And don't worry! smile If you keep trying, you may get better at it, but don't force yourself to do it if you can't.
