Saffron City is a sprawling metropolis in the Kanto region. It is often thought of as the "Heart of Kanto" because it is the largest and one of the busiest cities in Kanto, and it lays in Kanto's center, within walking distance of Celadon City, Vermilion City, Lavender Town, and Cerulean City. Saffron is famous even in other regions as the tenth most populous city in the Pokémon world. Not only is this the central business district of Kanto, it also holds the region's largest infrastructure, including the Magnet Train station, which allows ease of access between every region of the pokemon world.
The large Silph Co. headquarters building stands firm as the city's centerpiece while two Gyms dominate the north-eastern corner district. One of these gyms is the Fighting Dojo, where trainers may challenge the Dojo Master for a chance to win a Tyrogue. This gym is ideal for training, and is often the first stop before attempting to challenge the Saffron City Gym Leader; Sabrina. The gym is located east of the fighting dojo, and is thought to be one of the most puzzling gyms of the Kanto region. Sabrina is a psychic type specialist who challenges the mind with her gym of warp pads and walls, a different kind of maze than most will be used to. Trainers who want to challenge Sabrina must figure out the right path to take using the warp pads, and eventually find the one route will lead to Sabrina.

Some battles can become's an SOS battle in which the initial encounter may summon a second Pokemon to support it after the first turn. You must then roll for which Pokemon is summoned, and what the level of that Pokemon is. Only one Pokemon can be summoned at a time and a max of three per battle.
