This opponent is difficult solo, and pairs are suggested!
A small swarm of birds spot you and swoop in like they're of one mind to attack. Their bronze beaks glint wickedly, and their metallic feathers catch the sunlight. They attack by launching these feathers or by flinging their poisonous dung.
Hit points: 60 Damage: 5 damage each time they are attacked.
If you successfully kill this bird, each party involved in the battle gets 15XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:
1-60: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 61-75: Poisonous Dung: You manage to collect a vial of the vile stuff. It can thrown at an opponent once to poison them, dealing 1 damage for 3 turns. After this it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 76-90: Heart's Blood: You manage to collect a vial of the creature's blood. It can be used once to replenish 3 HP, at which point it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 91-100: Metal Feather: Once per battle, you can backstab with this small dagger. Add 2 to your final damage. This item is reusable, and remains in your inventory.
While the intent had been to return to the hotel, another swarm had attempted to dive bomb the trio. What once would have caused annoyance, now was no longer a bother. There was strength in them, which they had just proved. Instead she felt a humor, these birds didn't know who they had decided to ambush. They were about to find out and, for them, it would be a rude awakening.
Marisol didn't waste time, signaling out one of the larger birds, in reeling her arm back. Fingers adjusted on the handle before she threw her arm forward, hips and back aiding in the momentum. The leather cracked against the bird's back, batting it down, and she watched as a smear of its blood stained the snow.
"Shall we make another bet or shall we just make these bird's reject attacking us?" she asked her--she was going to have think of a label for them. Friends seemed so low-key a descriptor. Maybe she'd start with nicknames. Although she guessed she'd already given Cas one. Rose would be harder.

"They're jealous," Rose offered as her bow fell off her arm in a more familiar weight, arrow pulled and knocked into place just the same. "Our flock is much more cohesive and attractive than they." She was still in good spirits -- enough so that when the arrow went wide and was dodged by one of the birds, she didn't miss a beat, prepping the next.
The songstress stepped to the side so she wouldn't be in the way of her two -- comrades? special others? -- her two, who would do a lot better than she. It was becoming easier for Rose to rely on the Marine and the dancer, to find comfort in knowing that any of her short-comings would be compensated for...and vice versa. They were a team. They were more than a team. They were hers.
Sometimes, it seemed like he'd barely sheathed his sword when another fight fell upon him. Cas didn't necessarily dislike this. In fact, he seemed to quite welcome them and when he fought, there was a certain seriousness to him that rarely manifested in other situations.
Maybe it was a deeply-rooted understanding that in a fight, lives could be lost, no matter how simple things looked. There was a very real danger every time they drew their weapons. It was the understanding of one who had seen plenty of combat and had lost brothers in arms to battles just like these.
As cavalier as he might sound, even in the midst of a fight, there was a concentration caught in his eyes that never wavered once, even when he engaged in playful banter.
"I think they already regret it," he said aloud as he went in for a hit, one-handed, slicing the sword down on the wing of a bird. "If they don't they're stupider than they look."
"No question about that," she agreed with Rose. They were far more attractive than these metal nitwits. These creatures were all flash with no substance, a pitiful existence.
It mattered little that the blonde's arrow missed for right behind her was Cas. And she knew it would have been the same if he missed or if she missed. Whatever their shortcomings might be, the others were there to make up for it. A flawless piece of music that sung in harmony.
"I came up with the last bet," she started, "I think it's Rose's turn to decide what the winner gets or the losers have to do." After all, she and Cas get to pick out a swimsuit--with the blonde's approval--for her, even if the siren gets to dress them up and down. Come to think of it, she and Cas had come up with parts of the last bet.

"Oh, no no," Rose partially laughed, booted foot sliding in the snow to put her back to the two of them and cover that side. "I'm not a gambler, nor am I overly keen to give anyone power with an imaginative thought." Raising her bow, her eyes narrowed slightly, tracing the flight of one of the birds. "But you two...you do enjoy challenging my long standing sensibilities." The smile that formed was small, coy, considering the possibility of the bet rules put in her hands.
Her right hand released its hold, the arrow's flight true; it arched to nail the creature in the back, skewering one of the wings and sending it on a downward trajectory. "What sounds good right now is a hot bath and a massage, so that is my offer -- the winner receives a massage from the losers. Unless," her blue eyes flit to Cas, "the gentleman has a more enticing offer?"

Cas went for his hit, swinging a little too wide as the bird jerked away. His blade sheared off the end of its tail, which succeeded in making the thing look odd and somewhat laughable, but little more.
His eyes narrowed just a touch and he gave the bird a quiet stink-eye. He'd be watching that. His next hit, that was the first one he'd take out. Being bested by a bird was not Cas' idea of fun.
As he brought the sword back into its ready position, he looked over to Rose and Marisol and a grin swept across his face again as he shrugged. "Hey, I like massages as much as the next guy," he said. "Especially the ones with happy endings."
She had to laugh; the same comment had been on the tip of her tongue.
"That is a splendid idea, Rose," she offered, as she struck one of the birds. It shrieked as it plummeted, a smear of oozing blood lost against the black leather of her whip.
"And if you don't win, darling, I shall be happy to give you a massage any time," she winked at the blonde.

Marisol's flirty banter earned a coy glance over her shoulder, her smile curving easy and warm. "That, my dear, is worth fighting for." With the feathers of the arrow between her knuckles, sharp blue eyes turned towards her prey, following it with the edge of her weapon -- accounting for the blusters of cold, the speed of the bird, her own posture -- and let the arrow fly.
It burned clear through the metal bird, leaving a sizable hole in its chest as it fell. It was gruesome, but Rose couldn't help but smile, again flitting her eyes to Marisol. "And if you are so inclined, I would not be against returning the favor." There wasn't much that the songstress could think of that would be better than running her hands over the dancer's tired body to give her reprieve...
A low, almost tinkling laugh escaped the blonde, looking over to Cas. "You're incorrigible," she informed him affectionately, "and you'll have to do a little more than impress us with your big blade to earn that." That's right, Cas. It could be on the table, but you'd have to be sharper than the weapon in hand.
