Part 2
Seeing Misha stumble didn't prompt Zan to help her, though the thought did cross his mind, surprisingly enough. Still, a thought wasn't enough to get him over there, and he avoided the bird onslaught by ducking behind a tree instead, almost tripping over another civilian as he did so. Heh. Civilian. Like he was part of some elite task force now.
Peeking out of cover again once the birds calmed down, he gestured at the other Chosen, pulling the arm of the woman he'd found out of the trees so they could see it too.
"Hey!" she said, yanking it back.
"Sorry. I just... sorry." He smiled.

Part 3Each of you rolls 1d4. If anyone in the thread rolls a 1, you're viciously attacked and your rescued civilian(s) runs off to hide again while you fend off the birds. You each take 3 damage and have to start over at Part 2. Otherwise, if everyone in the thread rolls a 2+, you successfully bring the civilian(s) back through the mob of birds and back into the safety of the hotel. *** "That's great! Come on out, miss, and... Ow! Ouch!" Misha squeaked and ducked as a bird slammed against her shoulder and she stumbled sideways. With a growl, she whipped her shield up to cover herself. "On second thought," she called as she ducked lower and tried her best to channel a turtle in its shell, "stay right where you are! Ow, dammit." HP: 50/56 grasshopper pie INSERT ALL OF THE CURSING

Part 2
"Oh, for Christ's sake..." Brian was ready to be done with these birds. Rather than fire into the swarm and lose his arrows he grabbed Misha by the arm and tugged her into the woods. He had lost sight of Zan and the others, but he stood behind the trunk of a broad tree and hid. At the very least they would be harder to hit!

Part 2
Zan cursed sharply as another bird swooped into the trees and dragged its claws across his arm as he raised it in defense. He turned toward the new woman he'd found, only to find that she had disappeared.
Well, if she wanted to be that way, he just wouldn't save her, now would he?
He did catch sight of Kyle and the older woman again, and he started back toward them with a resigned smirk. If he couldn't rescue new people, he'd settle for the old. It wasn't like any of them were making it very far with these birds around anyway.

She briefly pressed her face to his shoulder. "This is starting to get really annoying," she murmured. Then she raised her head and looked around their new location. Peering over her shield, she realized the birds were gone. She lowered the shield and took better stock of the area. A bush ten feet to their right rustled and she tensed against Brian. Suddenly, a tousled head poked from the bush and Misha recognized the woman Zan had tried tugging from behind a tree earlier. "Aha, there you are!" A smile lit Misha's face and she disengaged from Brian, reaching for his hand to draw his attention to the woman. "Over there, Brian." Without waiting for his response, she began dragging him bodily. "Miss!" she stage whispered. "Come out and we'll get you to the hotel!" grasshopper pie Your roll found one person Smerdle So let's keep them, dammit

" 'Annoying' is one hell of an understatement," Brian replied. He had expected to be able to just go out, grab some people, and run back. Instead, the birds seemed to be actively trying to disallow any rescue missions.
Misha began to pull him bodily and he stumbled after her, watching the birds carefully until he saw what she was headed for.
"Miss, come on," Brian urged the woman, "We'll have to be quick about this."

Part 3
Zan froze as a rush of wings sounded far above him, expecting the birds to strike again, but a minute passed, then another, and they didn't attack. It was the reprieve they had been waiting for, but he was so used to avian retaliation at this point that he still didn't move, not until Kyle approached him.
"Are we going to try to go the rest of the way?"
Zan turned, searching the trees for Brian and Misha. He didn't see them, but this was too good an opportunity to waste, even if he had to do rescue things alone.
"Yeah," he whispered. "Help me with her."
They propped the woman between them again and started for the hotel.

It was the voices Brian heard. He motioned for Misha to come with him and drew his bow. He had expected to find another group of survivors, but instead he saw a familiar shock of dark hair bobbing away from them. He laughed and picked up the pace, sprinting briefly and then remembering his compatriot and slowing to keep up with her.
"We've got you," he said as he sidled up to Zan and his new friend. And they even had an extra head to help them inside!

Misha trotted through the snow, grinning at Brian when he waited for her and then sharing the smile with Zan as a reward for finding Kyle. The girl they had found trailed after a bit more slowly until they were halfway back to the hotel. At that point, Misha turned to look over her shoulder, rolled her eyes, and motioned impatiently. Then she glanced skywards meaningfully. One lone bird flapped across the sky above them. The girl gasped, covered her mouth, and broke into a bolt. As she passed the three Chosen and two other civilians on her hellbent run to the door, Misha chuckled and tucked her arm into the crook of Brian's elbow; her motion was light and careful not to hinder his hold on his weapon or his readiness. Then she shot a wink at Zan over the woman and Kyle's heads. "I would call this quite a success, wouldn't you, boys?" Her expression was pure joy... Touched by more than a bit of smugness. Chosen, one. Birds, zero.
