Hit points: 25 Damage: 5 each time attacked If you successfully kill this bird, each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following: 1-80: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent. 81-90: Poisonous Dung: You manage to collect a vial of the vile stuff. It can thrown at an opponent once to poison them, dealing 1 damage for 3 turns. After this it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 91-99: Heart's Blood: You manage to collect a vial of the creature's blood. It can be used once to replenish 3 HP, at which point it is consumed and leaves your inventory forever. 100: Metal Feather: Once per battle, you can backstab with this small dagger. Add 2 to your final damage. This item is reusable, and remains in your inventory.

She really wasn't sure what possessed her to go out a third time. Alone. The last time, she'd been out with Juliet, and that had... not gone well. Jules had been wonderful, and Tara was relieved to have had the support of the other woman in the fight.
At least one thing was for sure about these damn birds, they were great for meeting people...
Maybe that was part of what drew her out there again. The off chance that another Chosen would be out there, and she'd get to meet someone else. Or maybe it was just that... annoyance of knowing nothing about these birds. Except that they attacked people, and were deadly.
She'd nearly missed the one that was heading for her. It was last minute that Tara managed to dive out of the way of the talons, but the bird managed to scrape her arm. Huffing at her own stupidity at letting herself get lost to thought out there, she quickly notched and loosed the arrow. The bird was close. Close enough that Tara's arrow managed to fly straight threw its left wing. The bird shrieked, unable to stay aloft, but she guessed that hardly meant the creature was down for the count.

The avian shot a metal feather at her, and Tara winced as it sliced her arm. She was going to need to patch up her coat at this rate... An annoyance, but manageable. Sort of.
The bird glared at her--or at least, that's sure as hell what it looked like, there on the ground, broken wing. She didn't see any blood, which was... beyond bizarre, but at that point? She wasn't shocked. Disturbed a bit, sure, but she told herself being frightened by it all... wasn't going to help.
It wasn't... easier to kill them. But she hadn't been struck by lightening or visited by another ethereal doe telling her to not kill the creatures. Which, yes, made sense for a goddess of the hunt but. It still felt weird to Tara. She took another breath, trying to calm herself, and shot another arrow at the bird. This time it hit the other wing, and the creature screeched--almost seemed to hiss.

She figured the bird was grounded--at least, it didn't make sense to her for it to be able to get back up into the air at this point. But it actually did manage to push itself up into the air, just as Tara had taken another shot. The arrow grazed off the bird, knocking loose some of its metal feathers.
Her reward for her efforts was a wing slashing her cheek, making her yelp as she tried to shove the creature away. She stumbled in the snow, rubbing at her injured cheek and looking at the thin smear of blood that came off on her hand. Not as bad as it really should have been, she figured, which was good.

Another arrow, another graze. More metallic feathers glinted in the sun as they feel into the snow, to be lost for who knew how long. She tried to move back from the bird, even as it fired more feathers at her, this time cutting her hand. She dropped the bow and arrow she'd notched, cussing at the sharp pain across her fingers.
Another slender red line, not nearly as deep as it should have been, but deep enough to need more bandaging when she got back inside. The bird continued to fly around her, cawing and shrieking at her in its rage. But it was having a hard time staying on the wing. It... looked worn out. Patches of feathers missing at its back and chest, obvious injuries on its wings... She felt bad for it. Bad she'd been unable to give it a quicker death.

The bird had flown up high, and for a while, Tara lost sight of it. She moved carefully through the snow, trying to get her back to the sun, but the light glinted off the bird, and she grit her teeth.
When she finally spotted it again, it was diving right at her. Tara let out a scream despite herself, and nearly dropped her bow again in a panic. Lifting it, she took aim for the creature, unsure exactly what she was doing but... but...
She loosed the arrow. Lost sight of the bird. Felt it's wing cut her cheek. Heard a horrible clang and bang in the snow just behind her.
Slowly... very slowly, she turned to stare down at the creature. Her last arrow was sticking through the metallic bird's skull, the body no longer moving. It'd been dead before it hit the ground.

She'd considered just... leaving the creature be now. Tara collected some of her arrows, knowing she'd need to clean and try to repair them. The blood on them... wasn't normal blood. It intrigued her, in a morbid curiosity sort of way. Looking down at the metallic eagle... the idea struck. It was... an odd one but... she did already have a vial of dung from another of its kind.
Slowly, she knelt down in the snow, taking another vial out. Odd blood dripped from one of its wounds, and she held the vial to the injury. Slowly, the blood oozed into the vial, and when it was near full, she corked it, cleaned up the outside of the vial in the snow, and pocketed it. Wouldn't be till later that she'd learn of it's healing properties, but at the time?
She figured maybe she could use it as a medical sample, to try and learn more about the creatures if she had any chance to have access to a laboratory. Not that she.... knew how to use that sort of stuff but. Maybe one of the other Chosen..? She pondered that, as she paid quick final respects to the creature, and wandered back into the hotel. Bandage herself up, shower.... then figure out what to do next.
