Depends on the type of Buddhism. Most likely you will have to find a temple and be ordained by the monks there. My adivce is to google it and see what you find.

It usually involves years or practice or a commitment of years of practice. Being ordained isn't something done overnight.

Which school thereof? There's dozens, if not hundreds of schools in The Great Vehical. 3nodding

Well first of all I want to say congradulations on considering becoming a monk to such a wonderful religion. Though dedicating your life to guiding others through that religion is a big choice...but I admire and congradulate you. I don't know how one goes about it, but I wish you the best of luck.

I've always wanted to become a monk .. but since I moved away it has become mostly a dream. ;.; (The temple I used to go to was mostly made up of Pali-speaking folk, so it would have been VERY difficult to get initiated, even if I *had* stayed xD)

Lately I've been working on getting my Wiccan minister's degree .. though again, where I live now, this is very difficult ..

But I'm sure that if you really want to, you can become whatever you want! ^^ Good luck to you!

i also have considered becoming a monk, but to do that, i would have to move to a country where Buddhism is a little more respected.

Personally I always wondered if someone can become more like a Buddhist minister if they didn't want to fully committ to the life of being a monk. I would love to be a Buddhist minister, but I do not know if they have them. Does anyone know of this?

Where's here, and why is location a problem? There's monastic communities all over North America and Europe, you just need to look for them. Have a look on Buddhanet.net, they've got a listing of monastic communities and Zen centers. 3nodding

My Japanese language teacher's dad lived as a monk in Japan for quite sometime (The dad is American).
