Beth disappeared after she'd seen the emptiness of the room, but Brian watched her emerge again with a bucket of cleaning chemicals and some rags. He wasn't sure what, exactly, those could be used for. Disinfecting poo-smeared walls? Either way, it was something that nobody else had thought to grab. He was sure they'd find some use for it. He laughed slightly and shook his head at her musings over macing the birds with Windex and then started down the hall, dragging the mattress after him.

The comment on not being able to carry anything else didn't bother Brian, but when his female companion turned to the boy and offered that he could carry something light his brows rose. Nobody wanted to hear that, especially someone aware of how small they were. He nudged Misha with an elbow and headed off after the boy. They had to stick together. One never knew when the birds could come rushing in.

When they reached the first floor, Brian conferred with one of the civilians who seemed to be in a kind of leadership position beneath the Chosen. They were able to get a fire started in the lower fireplace, which had died out significantly earlier. He delivered the clean formal wear to the folks helping the wounded and assisted for a while in tearing it apart. The mattress, as it turned out, was a good reinforcement to help block off a door-less frame, even with it missing its stuffing.

Beth's eyes widened at Asher’s determined show of strength. She crumbled a bit under his pointed gaze. Great, she'd offended him. She continued smiling even though it wavered, an instinctive gesture of submission. She never understood why it distressed her so when others were the slightest hint of displeased with her. She quickly backed out of his way, another subconscious way of apology. After an awkward moment, she called to his back, “Well, clearly I stand corrected!” She fidgeted a bit, waiting for a response that never came, then turned to Brian and said, “It was really good to meet you. Good job team?”

Beth made her way down the stairs, frustrated at her own awkwardness. Disastrous foot-in-her-mouth moments aside, the haul was a good one. The shower curtains, as predicted, went to cover apertures that needed to allow movement, like watch points or doors. The ties she left at the makeshift medical area, and lingered a bit to help where she could. The cleaning supplies she brought to whatever soup line had been set up. The last thing they needed was for someone to get sick from crisis-time food safety negligence. And if anyone did have some sort of accident, of the sickness or physical variety, they could easily clean it up so as not to expose the rest of them to the risk.

And at least she knew more of her fellow Chosen, even if one of them hated her and the other one probably thought she was a neurotic mess. Progress was indeed slow.

Asher's righteous annoyance lingered -- which meant that instead of joining the others, he found his own corner to set up in and find use for all his supplies. The ties helped bind up some windows, to hold fragile panes together. The shower curtains patched up the broken glass, to hold wind at bay, and the chairs were hammed to hold it all into place.

The mattress, though -- he didn't have a clue what that was about. He stood over it, hands on his hips. Tired from lugging around. He kicked it, once, and then looked around. He'd just... turn it over, brace it against the wall, and turn it idly into a kind of couch.

And with that, he called it quits. He'd rather be breaking things than fixing them.
