The people in the hotel have the haunted look of refugees, perhaps because they've spent the past few days fighting off the birds -- and, in the battle, they've witnessed terrible things. People injured, or dead, unable to recover from the trauma [both physical and emotional] of the events that have been happening around them. Chosen can practically taste the anxiety in the air.
As you stand staring at the chaos, one of the civilians approaches you, warily, and clears their throat to get your attention. If you give it to them, they uncomfortably ask if you're here to help, and then tell you a story:
Someone they know or love has gone missing. They were outside of the Hotel when it happened, but none of these folks has a real weapon, and you do. Would you be willing to go on a search, to see if you can find them, and bring them back?
You can't help but agree. But you won't go alone. There is a safety in numbers.
