Unfortunately, the other side of the Hearth portal was not as calm and casual as the side from whence they’d come. The noise was the most striking part at first, angry shrieks from above assaulting Sylvia’s ears as she tried to stumble out of the way so that others could follow her. It looked as if this place had once been quite nice, and recently so, but was now in an absolute shambles. When Sylvia tried to look up to confirm that the roof had given way to the show now on the floor, she was met with nothing but an angry, terrifying attack of claws and beaks and feathers. She was suddenly glad she’d chosen a shield, despite initially thinking it might not be a great weapon for attacking something like birds.

When she heard the call from a nearby stranger that almost everyone had moved to a hotel down the hill, she figured that was as good a place as any to catch a breath and try to figure out how to help. She desperately wished she could help the injured here, but she was no medic – though she would now heavily consider getting more training than the very small amount she’d had thus far. For now, she would leave the medical care of others to those more suited, and try to make herself useful elsewhere.

Of course, that required getting through the mob of birds ahead – which were still swooping towards her, claws outstretched and beaks only attacking when not filling the destroyed room with shrill cries. For now, her best bet seemed to be to block what attacks she could from the birds and make her way down the hill. Hoping she could keep up with the winged assailants, she began to trudge through the mounting snow…

Unfortunately, Sylvia was able to fend off one side, but that opened her other side up for an onslaught from some opportunistic birds. She felt a slash of talons along her cheek as a bird pulled back the hood of her coat, and while it seemed nothing more than a scratch, it was unsettling. She tried to swing her shield around, but she was aware that even doing that would leave her other side unguarded now. She would have to stay aware and do her best to keep up for now – there wasn’t a good way to hide along an edge and still make a straight shot for the hotel below.

Luckily, now slightly more aware, Sylvia was able to keep her head down enough and swing her shield when she saw a bird circling around at an angle that indicated her as their target. Somehow, beyond that initial scrape, she made it past the birds and through the snow to start down the hill with very little struggle.

This was cool. Or rather it would've been cool if she wasn't scared for her death. She knew it was going to be dangerous as she walked into the fray, but she did expect to come out of the Hearth somewhere safe at the very least. But no, the moment she stepped out and into the Alps she was assaulted by big birds.

"You've got to be kidding me..." She swore under her breath as she quickly knocked and arrow on the bow. Looking around she saw that she wasn't the only one getting attacked, and that no one seemed safe from the birds. People were screaming and it was clear that if they didn't do something soon it would get worse and worse. She hoped that she would be able to get to where the others where set up, looking around to find exactly where that was. Once she spotted the hotel she smiled, though the glee was short lived since another bird came at her.

Getting on her side Beaulah cried out, though more in shock then anything else. The thick layers of clothing seemed to help not only for keeping her warm but also keeping her safe.

'Come on Beau, gotta focus.' She thought to herself as she watched some of the others around her making their way to the hotel. It wouldn't do if they all got there and she didn't. How would that look back at camp? How would that look to Dionysus? Would he regret picking her? No, she could not think like that. She had to stay positive and focus on the task in front of her.

This time when a bird came at her she left go of the arrow, hoping that it would hit it's mark and she would be able to start heading towards the hotel. However it didn't, despite all the training she had been doing with the bow it seemed she wasn't as good as she thought she was.

"Screw this." Maybe trying to aim wasn't the best idea out there. There were a ton of birds out there. Maybe all she had to do was make sure she had a strong arrow ready and just let it loose. It was bound to hit something right? Maybe not, in fact logically that didn't seem right, but what she had been doing so far hadn't been working so she had to try something new.

"Okay monsters, take this!" She said releasing another arrow into the sky.

Against all logic she was able to hit a bird this time, so she rushed over to the hotel. Her insecurities for at least a few seconds had disappeared. He had not chosen wrong, and she would continue to prove this.

Stepping out of the fire resulted in a blast of cold so intense that it made Ewan shout a curse not altogether professional. His breath fogged in the air and he took a step forward, soles of his shoes chudding into the snow--

The next moment found him ducking as something big and heavy and angry came flying at him, just like in that movie, his mind supplied, the one about the Birds--

the Birds, duh--

And Ewan, grinning like a loon out of fear, swung his sword at a bird who was arguably about as big as he was, and perhaps a bit angrier. He missed, and got a rake down the face as punishment.

Running forward a few strides, Ewan tried again -- juking and weaving, bobbing and ducking as best he could to avoid more of the birds. He could see the hotel up ahead -- it was just a matter of getting there.
