- ۩ Emory is balanced rather evenly emotionally. She'd not prone to a wild temper, fits of joy or bouts of crippling depression. But it's hard to understand Emory's state of mind without also understanding her body language. Due to being a mute now her emotional reactions to many things have taken a shift to as much a physical reaction as an emotional one. Early on after the loss of her voice expressing her emotions was difficult if not near impossible and as a result, she subconsciously developed a set of "reactions" to accompany her moods. These tend to be facial expressions which most will find easy to recognized and sometimes comical. The most noticeable of these is her tendency to puff her out checks when she's upset or displeased with something. She's been known to stomp in order to get peoples attention or quite literally face palm when she finds something "stupid".

To understand Emory's story you most first learn her family history which begins in the Kalos region during the late 16th century. The Tilnom nobility during a time of social and political revolution pitted itself against the established powers of the era and before the Kalos revolution in the early 17th century had lost its standing both as a noble family and a political influence.
All but one of the thirty-eight known members were executed for crimes against the crown with the only surviving member fleeing to the Alola region seeking asylum. This single surviving member married and continued the family legacy.
During the mid 18th century an agreement was struck between the Keonaona family for which Emory is born into and the new Kalos republic government that the Tilnom family nobility would be restored so long as a female heir of her own choice married into nobility from the Kalos region.
To prevent the choice from being influences by her family only herself, siblings, children and those born after her married from other direct blood relatives would hold the true weight of this restored nobility. In addition, only a direct blood decedent from the original Tilnom family survivor was eligible for this opportunity and upon her 20th birthday, the Kalos governments would otherwise informer her to ensure this offer was already given and remembered.
Multiple members of her family including her mother and grand mother have all been given this opportunity to restore the family's nobility but thus far none have taken as much of an interest as Emory.
Emory was born into the Keonaona family of the Alola Region and takes her nickname from the single surviving member of the Tilnom family, Emory Jilvult Tilmon. Emory learned the family history during her original travels as a Pokemon trainer though the ability to restore its nobility is a tightly kept secret from each decedent until her 20th birthday.

Emory never had the aspirations to become a skilled and powerful Pokemon trainer or a world famous coordinator, not even a Pokemon breeder appealed to her. Emory simply wanted to explore the world following her childhood friend Jessica. Emory began her Pokemon journey like most youngsters at the rip age of 10. Traveling the Alola region as Jessica collected Gym badges but near the end of Jessica's gym challenge, the duo became hopelessly lost in a cave system. The duo tried for days to find their way back out but eventually fatigue and dehydration set in.
Unable to find their way back out desperation set in and Jessica at the tender at of only 13 did the unspeakable. They had found their way into a rather large chamber with a steep drop off on one side. Jessica leaving behind everything she owned as well as her Pokemon took the leap from the edge right before Emory's very eyes. The only confirmation of Jessica's fate, the sound of her body as it hit the ground in the darkness below. This was the moment Emory lost her voice, the trauma she now suppresses and lives with every day.
Emory was eventually rescued by a wild Pokemon but the damage was done and she would never speak again. Unlike a true mute, however, Emory can still make sounds when she laughs or cry's which are the only sounds she can make in her waking hours. Shes not prone to it but she can whisper in her sleep, rarily!
Since the event, Emory has been living with her parents and the Pokemon she and Jessica had as children. Over the last couple of years, the urge to explore once more has slowly begun to pull at her. With reluctant approval, her parents have prepared her for a second attempt at being a Pokemon trainer and sent her to travel the Kalos region. An urbanized and heavily explored part of the world. They hope here she will be safer then in other regions such as the Kanto.
