BASICS Name: Diryas ibn Khali ibn Faakhir Castaneda al-Baksh, Ph.D. (often westernized to Diryas al-Baksh)
Nickname: He got Dise (deece) out of someone mushmouthing his first name and it sort of stuck, much to his amusement. Also, while Diryas al-Baksh is his legal westernized first and last name, he will also answer to Diryas Castaneda. Sometimes he does it for fun to confuse new lab assistants as to which Dr. Castaneda is being referred to.

APPEARANCE Diryas stands at a modest 5’3” and is petit and fine-boned. He’s of middle-eastern descent, with his parents both immigrants from Saudi Arabia. Diryas has thick, slightly wavy dark chestnut-red hair worn to his shoulders; he wears it up or down as the situation requires. His eyes are honey-brown and almond-shaped. There’s a bit of--thankfully not patchy--fine auburn scruff along his chin and jaw. Proportionally, he has long legs. He has a medium skin tone that darkens quite a bit when he bothers to leave the lab enough to expose himself to sun. His clothing is either purely functional--lab-safe attire sans the coat even when out of the lab--or composed of relaxed-fitted shorts or pants with soft t-shirts. Being a bit near-sighted, Diryas wears a pair of thin-framed black glasses.

PERSONALITY Lying in Wait--Patience is a virtue and Diryas has it in spades, something that suits him to the low-octane life of lab science. If there is something he wants, he'll get it- it's just a matter of time. What 'it' is tends not to matter, though the more he wants something, the more he's willing to wait and plan to get it. It's relatively rare that he gives up on something, usually due to a conflict with a new, stronger desire or the pursuit becoming impractical and/or irresponsibly dangerous. His patience extends to social situations--he is very hard to annoy. He values self-control very highly and does his best to constrain his annoyance when it does creep on him anyway.
One isn’t the Loneliest Number--Growing up, he was always the child that preferred to play alone if possible. He can deal fine with people, even if they exhaust him, but he doesn’t have much of a desire to seek other people out. Diryas seeks out the company of his friends and loved ones, but that’s about it. Even then, his friends by now have come to understand that it doesn’t mean anything bad if he goes weeks without texting them; they simply text him themselves if they want to talk. Zebulon is just about the only exception to this, something that caught him by surprise as much as it did anyone else.
Mischief Managed--His 'keep calm and carry on' exterior hides a mischievous streak many miles wide and he tends to tease mercilessly with people who will tend to recognize the banter for what it is. It can get him into trouble, though, as even people closest to him can misunderstand a light-hearted comment as an act of spite. He is very easy to take seriously when he doesn't mean to be. To say he's lost friendships because of this would be putting it mildly, which will distress him, as he values his friendships highly.
That 9-to-midnight Grind--His ability to focus and absorb detail comes at a price- he can and does lose himself in his work, concentrating on that and only that. Has he eaten today? He has no idea, honestly. He tends to ignore people trying to get his attention, only to look up in surprise when he finally realizes they’re there. Diryas honestly doesn’t mean anything by it and will offer due apologies when confronted about it. He isn’t likely to change, however, as he’s been this way since childhood and doesn’t see anything actually innately wrong with it. “Workaholic”? Don’t you mean “dedicated”?
File Everything in its Place--Diryas is incredibly observant and organised, paying close attention to the people and situation around him. This can feed into his hyperfocusing as he devotes his focus entirely to noting everything about the subject in front of him, but also lends itself to a strategic mind when he’s trying to puzzle out the way to get the best desired outcome given the information he has at hand. His memory is thankfully excellent, though this does express at times as a need to have things be just so, which can annoy others. He has his system in the lab and does get profoundly annoyed even with his patience if someone messes it up.

What makes them fit within the sphere of this particular god? Diryas has been a perpetual student since he was small, always finding interest in discovering the next topic and next trove of information, with an inclination towards the sciences and law--but mainly the sciences. Organic chemistry is one of his favourite things, so of course that’s his focus as a toxicologist.
