Character name: Winowill Journal Name:LordWinnowill Appearance/age She is ageless and immortal, tall with a skin tone that almost defines pale. Pearly white skin, she is a study in black and white, and the only character who can be drawn exactly the same in color and in B&W save for her lips, which have a red tinge in color. Tall and slender, her long black hair trails behind her on the floor when she lets it, though more often she drapes it over one arm as she walks so that the curve and tip of it each just miss the floor. Like all elves of her world, she has four fingers, and long pointed ears. Games in (current) None Games in (previous) 10 Forward
Character personality/history/TL;DNR: Winnowill was one of the first Elves born on the world of two moons. She was a gentle souled healer who cared very much for her people, and fell in love with Voll, who became lord of the Gliders. Healing her people was her power and her calling, and like the other Gliders, when Voll found them a safe place where they would no longer be attacked or hunted she was thrilled. They all saw him as a hero and a great leader. And for a time he was.
But they were too safe in their mountain home. They stagnated. There were no more births because there was no more room. There were no more dangers, so no one got hurt. There was no need for a healer. Voll himself grew more distant around the same time, and Winnowill was at loose ends. No one to heal, no one to love, no one who needed her...
She fled deep into the mountain, intending to leave and make her own way in the world when she found an injured troll. It was the first person who needed her healing in more centuries than she could count, and she healed him. And he appreciated it. He appreciated her. He needed her. She loved that feeling. But his attention soon wandered. So she brought it back.
Find a need, fill a need, create a new need, fill that.
Before long she was carrying his child, and he was becoming wrapped around her finger. She twisted. She found that her healing powers had festered with the centuries of disuse. She could still heal, but she could do so much more. By the time the baby was born, she had found that she had power over the father - emotional and magical. She reveled in using it. Her half-breed son, Two-Edge, grew up watching mommy torture daddy behind a wall of stone thorns. She taught him much about manipulation, about cruelty, about people being toys first and foremost.
And then after the father was dead, and the son was old enough, Winnowill left Two-Edge behind and returned to her people. There was some shame in her for how she acted, and she was prepared to beg her Lord husband for forgiveness. She had been gone for a decade.
No one had noticed she was gone.
Pain and hurt can fester just like magic unused.
The twisted part of her soul got worse, and she became darker and darker. She learned to take pleasure in long spanning games of manipulation. She used her son and rock shapers she had sent into nearly catatonic states to remodel whole sections of the mountain to give her secret passages and hideyholes. When humans came, she enjoyed their worship of them, and encouraged it.
Time progressed, her games got darker, more subtle, and she became the Lord of Blue Mountain in all but name. She was the one people turned to, the one they looked at when there was a question. Under Voll's nose, she took his throne leaving him only a seat without the power.
And then THEY came. The Wolfriders. Small savage cousins. One of them shot down one of the hunting birds that the Gliders used for food gathering. Oh, the bird little mattered, but they were new and interesting. So Winnowill held the one who fired the shot - Strongbow - as her prisoner and enslaved the rest. And no one questioned her. No one stopped her from torturing Strongbow. No one saw anything wrong with how she handled things, until the other Wolfriders came to rescue their missing kin.
Cutter shook everything up, and Dewshine recognizing Tyldak was completely outside of her plans. As was Voll waking up at the sight of cubs. Her games were in shambles, but she was sure she could still win. She could make them leave, restore her people to her little puppets. The stagnation she hated as a healer became her strength as Lord. As a healer she would have been overjoyed at their visit, as Lord she wanted them all gone, possibly dead.
They were turning her people from her faster than she could adapt, and she knew they had to go. Worse, they had brought a Preserver, and she knew if Voll saw it, her hold over him would shatter, that he'd realize all she had done, and become. Preservers, however, can't be killed, even with her powers, so she had to send them all away. She tried threatening them to get them to leave. When the Wolfriders refused, she tried to drive Cutter into attacking her, confidant that she could stop him and get them kicked out. She got him to attack, and found that the wolf in his blood made him a more dangerous foe than she had anticipated. Leetah saved her by backing Cutter off, and she never quite forgave that she needed it.
So Winnowill decided that there was one way to guarantee that they would do as she demanded. She kidnapped Cutter's cub. The one who had magical potential, and said they would only get him back if they left. They gave chase, which she expected. They bested her, which she did not. Leetah, that foolish sister who had skin darker than Winnowill's soul, and a heart that shone more purely than Winnowill's skin got close enough, tried to heal her, tried to fix her twisted nature.
Winnowill chose death over a return to who she used to be. Betrayed by her son, and her pet humans, her hold over her people all but gone, Voll against her, she stepped back from a height and let her body fall, broken, to the stone floor behind her.
Her son helped her just enough that she got to one of her hiding places, and then he too left; following his own game.
The idiot Wolfriders showed the preserver to Voll, and there was some small smug satisfaction when she learned that his response was to kidnap them all wholecloth and force them into a bloody war for their ancient home. She tried to get them away, and so every death, every loss, provided her some small pleasure. Except for Voll. The old fool threw away his forever for a moment of hope. Idiot.
With Voll gone, the Gliders returned to Blue Mountain, and Winnowill, healed, was all the leader they had. Since most of them blamed the now absent Wolfriders for Voll's death, and they all knew she had tried to rid the mountain of them, her control was uncontested. Which was a very bad thing...for the Gliders.
Freed of having to be subtle, she ruled with a fist and a heart of stone. Her people were forced to sleep when not needed, taken off of their shelf when she wanted them, then stored away again. Tyldak became her chained pet. She took out her frustrations on her people and solidified their slavery to her.
And then, while hunting Aroree brought her a choice prize, hoping to trade an infant cub for her own freedom. And not just any cub. Tyldak's cub with the Wolfrider brat Dewshine. A new child she could mold from the first, with the blood of her people. She took the cub, little Windkin, and she "healed" him, purging the wolf from his blood, rendering him immortal like his father. She thought to keep him for her own. Once again, she underestimated the Wolfrider's attachment to their flea-ridden spawn.
Last time they tried to retrieve a cub she had stolen, Voll died and she almost died. When they came for Windkin....
Rayek was a treat, though. He was a new toy, and he fell in love with her so deeply, so completely that he was so easy to manipulate. She only had to let him think that he was healing her, helping her.
Blue Mountain fell, her people dead save for a scattered one or two, her human pets denied her, she was left on a deserted isle by Tyldak, since he knew well she could not fly well enough to escape and would not kill herself, nor would she die of hunger or thirst.
He underestimated her. She changed her form, giving herself gils, and went to play her games with the underwater Elves called the Wave Dancers. And then she rested. For a very long time. Until she felt Rayek's mind again, felt him older, stronger, and the master of the Palace of all things! She summoned him and he came.
Oh sure, he trapped her behind a wall of crystal until she'd agree to being healed, but she was there, alive, aware, and subtly working on his mind through his obsession with her....
Powers: Immortality. She is very very hard to kill, and even her enemies know that killing her would be a BAD idea, since her soul is unkillable, and her powers unfettered by a body would be stronger. Black sending - using mental communication to deliver pain directly to someone's brain. It doesn't require touch, though touch makes it stronger. Sending - mental communication. Mental shields - she can block mind reading. Why? Mind reading - because she herself is a thought stealer. She even stole Dewshine's soul name and used it against her. Soul name - in theory she has one. If discovered it could be used against her to cause her great pain, or used with love to cause pleasure. She guards it well. Healing - One of the strongest, if not the strongest healer the world of two moons had ever known. If any was stronger, it might be Leetah. Twisted healing - She can, with a touch, cause pain rather than cure it, if she so chooses. "A healer's power turned inside out." Skin shaping - like healing she can do this to others and to herself. She can give an elf hollow bones, a crest, and large wings turning Tyldak into a half bird. She can give herself gills and webs. She's even made herself appear as human by changing her hands and ears and skintone. This does require touch, and it HURTS. Spirit travel - she can send her spirit out free of her body to wander and learn, and she can kidnap the minds of others who have "gone out", locking them deep in her own mind without anchors or light.
