I've been trying to practice traditional art (pencil and watercolor) everyday (or as much as I can but that's the goal. I'll probably post something 2 to 3 times a week. Any comments, advice, links to tutorials and such are appreciated.

Thanks for looking! ♡

Wow, I love your style! I would say imagine seeing a face in person- which parts of the face are closest to you, and which parts sink into the face a bit? For Spock's pic in particular, the shading on his nose is too drastic. Because it is much closer to the viewer, it should be shaded lighter, much like his cheekbones. If you were to do a theatrical lighting version, the dark shading would be appropriate ONLY WHEN you have the majority of one side of his face in the same, dark shading. AKA only use strong shadows in the nose when one side of the face is in the same amount of darkness.

If this doesn't make sense, take a flashlight in the dark, look in the mirror, and move it around your head. The light may spill from one cheek to the nose, but the other side could be completely dark. Or if you spill out the light equally horizontally on your face, the part in which the cheeks curve downwards will be darker than their "points" (ex. tip of the nose, cheekbones, eyebrow bridge, etc).

Hope that helps! Looking forward to seeing more of your art!

These are great! Love that Harry.

I don't really have much to add because Forelourne pretty much covered what i was going to say.

A lot of time when you're drawing from a photo/screenshot/still/etc. the lighting and shadows are all right there for you, so definitely pay attention to that. Sometimes it's even a good idea to figure out from what direction the light sources are for future work you do where you aren't using a reference.

The beauty of having internet resources is that a lot of time when you need help figuring out how to do shadowing, you can google it(for example, googling "light from below [face]"), and get some pretty decent examples. Also, and you'll see this a lot from me, never be afraid to use references or tutorials, it's how we learn. Almost everyone uses references.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try doing that. I always have problems with shading. I do watch tutorials on youtube and I found this artist who said that if you're not yet sure what your style is, draw the art of the artist you admire. That's what I'm pretty much doing right now.

I'm excited to work on it too, though I'm mainly trying to study how to control water and mix colors for now.

This time I'm mixing it up. I love anime and well, as much as I'd like to draw real people, I also still want to draw anime style.
