Around ten years ago, the dam near the town collapsed due to excessive rainfall, and waters from the reservoir flooded the town. It is considered to be the town's greatest tragedy; thousands of lives, both human and Pokémon, were lost. Much of the town was underwater, and the few survivors had to live off very little.
Once the waters subsided, the remaining town members divided into two sections. The trainers with the strongest Pokémon traveled to the destroyed dam and began to rebuild it. Others went to the forest and started gathering supplies to rebuild that which was lost. After many years, a new dam was constructed and there were plenty of townhouses for citizens to move into. And so life finally started to flow back into Port Dam.
Now, many of the jobs in Port Dam revolve around strengthening the reservoir's walls. However, with the opening of the port, there are many jobs for sailors and fishermen as well. This growing town sees plenty of beginner and veteran trainers as they travel around the region.
