The 13th Sister/Festival of Masks

Long ago, when Svatura was new, the 12 Great Ones still resided on it's soil and gave life to the 12 High races. However, they were not the only ones. There was a thirteenth Sister, Eisra, prone to fits of conflict who often disagreed with everything her Brothers and Sisters stood for. The Twelve, wishing their world to be peaceful, grew weary of her arguments, of the trouble she caused, and threatened to banish if she continued.

Believing her siblings to be weak of will, and too soft of heart, the Sister continued to ply her trickery and combat them at every turn, for every decision. She inspired fights, plying one against the other, as if it were a game - and perhaps to her it was - but it was not long before the Twelve caught onto her act.

Proving their promise true, on the thirty first day of the Month of Beginnings, Eisra's siblings combined their power to banish her from their fledgling world. Outraged, hurt and feeling betrayed, Eisra left her mark upon the blossoming city of Sero, letting her anger curse the very day of her banishment.

"Every year, on this day of my betrayal, unless you and those you have created hide behind your masks, you will turn into what you hate most. I will return, and I will find you to extract my revenge!"

Her promise has been written into stone in the central district of Sero since that fateful night. Every year, on the thirty first day of the Month of Beginnings, from sun down to sun up, the residents of the city and citizens of the other provinces who travel to participate in the Festival of Masks, dress up and wear their masks to honor the thirteenth sister and escape her curse.

Whether they believe in the curse or not is unknown, though many of the old superstitions still are believed to this day. One thing is for sure - the Festival provides fun and entertainment, old curse or not.
