Basic Information
The weapon's firing system is based fundamentally on the HK USP series of weapons, with a few notable differences. First, the ergonomics are different, with rubber handguards and a shape more similar to the HK45. Secondly, the firearm is made of stainless steel and coated in a slightly different but similar coating, making it somewhat heavier. Thirdly, it is chambered in the 5.45mm Carbine round. Compared to the 9mm or .45 ACP it is 1.6 inches compared to about 1.2 inches, and possesses nearly 1,000 joules from the 5 inch barrel, compared to approximately 500. The round is designed as a lightweight armor piercing round, similar to the 5.7mm and 4.6mm rounds, however it is twice as heavy and possess nearly double the energy. As a result, it has far more stopping power, range, and armor penetration ability. While being more similiar to a rifle round than a pistol around, it still is around the same weight and size as the 5.7mm and 4.6mm rounds, and much lighter than the 9mm. It's recoil is also more than sufficiently low for a firearm it's size, meaning that the recoil of the gun is far more manageable despite it's higher power.
In comparison, a .45 ACP and 9mm round have approximately 10.56 and 5.22 foot-pounds of recoil force in a 2.5 pound pistol. The 5.45mm has 6.40, which while still higher than the 9mm, is still much lower than the .45. On top of this, the HK USP has an incredibly smooth action, which makes handling the recoil quite easy, and in addition has recoil buffer which reduces the felt recoil by approximately 30%. This means that it is slightly under a usual 9mm, and compared to 1.5 pound 9mm much lighter in recoil. While still much more than the 5.7mm or 4.6mm, it is easily tolerable by the average prson. Like both of these rounds, it is lighter than the 9mm, at approximately 9.4 grams per round, compared to 12.5 for the 9mm. It is however 50% heavier than the 6 gram rounds of the 4.7mm and 5.7mm. Like both of these rounds, it has a velocity of 715 m/s and a diameter much smaller than that of many comparable pistol rounds, making it ideal for piercing armor. With a hardened steel tip, it can easily penetrate through light armor, and even though some heavy armor. As the round tumbles and then fragments, it has slightly more stopping power than it would have ordinarily, primarily due to it's lack of over penetration, which allows all the energy to be absorbed in to the target instead of passing straight through. Despite being of tolerable recoil and size, it is much more powerful than the 5.7mm and 4.6mm, allowing it to outclass these rounds without being difficult to manage.
The weapon's capabilities are comparable to rifles, although it is much weaker given the reduced energy from the shorter barrel. The USP was originally designed to handle +P cartridges and be a primary combat pistol, with it's ergonomics and general design specific to pushing the weapon out to 100 yards and to using a suppressor. This transfers to the firearm, which has roughly a range of 100 yards, and can penetrate armor out to this range. Comparatively, most handguns only have an effective range of 25 yards. Given it's higher velocity and ballistic coefficient the round is still adequate out to 200 yards, and can pierce armor. From the handgun, the armor can penetrate most soft armor up to level IIIA. While it can get through harder armor than this, the lack of range between intervals means that it generally is best used against armor of this level. As a lightweight, armor piercing weapon, it rivals that of the Fn Five Seven or UCP. In addition, part of it's frame can be transferred to a light carbine like weapon.
