Que-ale was beginning to notice a pattern. He glanced at the dark red lioness ahead of him as she prowled the sands of the Firekin lands. While she may not have noticed he certainly did. They had been patrolling a particular part of their route a bit more than normal. It had certainly created a puzzle for him. As far as he'd known, there wasn't anything special about this area. Something was definitely up!

He increased his pace until he was even with the lioness. "Alright Akane. What's doing on? Why do we keep tramping through this same piece of the border?" He fixed a stern blue eye on her.


She'd been restlessly scanning the horizon. Hoping to find? What? Akane frowned slightly to herself. It was ridiculous really. The small presence and voice beside her startled her into jerking her head up. Even Que had noticed something! Uneasily she glanced anywhere but at that blue eye. "What are you talking about Que? I keep getting assigned here," she thought she sounded dubious even to herself.

It hadn't always been like this. She thought she could pinpoint it to that duel she'd had some days back when Que hadn't been with her. Uneasily she swished her tail. Was she hoping to see that lion again? Wouldn't it make more sense to see if he'd won a duel with another and joined the pride? And admit to everyone she was looking for a male whom she didn't know? No.


He arched an eyebrow at her words. "Your assigned because you volunteer for this spot." He'd seen her time and again catch the eyes of the lion dishing out appointments when this one came up. The little jackal moved around and got in front of the lioness making her stop. "Alright, spill it."

" well it seems we meet yet again." Jioni was unsure how he felt about having to duel this female for a second time in a row but it didn't anger him. their last match at lest for him had been a disaster and he honestly did not want a repeat show of it in front of her. "you wont best me this time around." ears flat, he crouched some and got ready to get this duel started. tail lashing he was impatient to get this duel started and ended only because he had failed so badly his first duel. it now had nothing to do with toying with his son by getting into the pride, it now was a matter of his manly pride that he not lose again.

Oh gods I am so sorry I forgot about this! *dies of shame*

Que-ale nearly jumped out of his pelt when a deep voice sounded behind him. What the?! He jumped around growling then paused. It was a large male lion. His brow arched as he took in the comments of the lion. Well! Apparently Akane had dueled him before, but Que didn't recognize this particular male. It must of been when he wasn't around. That could explain some stuff. He glanced slightly at the lioness. Her slightly blushing posture confirmed it. He wanted to crow, but restrained himself. They needed to duel. Gracefully he backed out of the way.


Akane had been trying to look anywhere but the jackal and hadn't seen a familiar lion coming up behind him. She blushed and looked to the side a moment. She had wanted to see him again. There was no point in fooling herself. Maybe she should get another to take his challenge, but he was here and really ready to go. She'd have to do it.

"So you're back. I hope you're better prepared this time." Now that the fight was in front of her, she felt her adrenaline going. Her claws flexed and her muscled tightened. She was ready too! Akane bared her fangs. The lioness circled the lion and waited.

"we shall find out now wont we." Jioni took a defensive stance and kept his eyes on her as she circled him. he was determined to show her up this round after his horrible duel last time. muscles tensed, he gave a low growl as he was itching to get this duel going but he was going to bide his time this round. he knew one of his faults last time was he was took quick and edger to get the duel over as well as the sand throwing him completely off. his tail lashed about as he made sure only to move to keep his eyes dead set on her was he bided his time and planned to take his time with this duel. "lets see what you got this time." smirking a little, he always had a cocky attitude which might get him over his head yet again.

Que moved back far enough to be out of the immediate way, but still close enough to hear. Almost instantly he heard something of interest from Akane. If he'd had any doubt this pair had met and dueled before, her words confirmed it. He sat and perked his ears to watch and listen. This should be interesting. Obviously the lion wanted to join. And if Akane's actions were any indication, she wanted him to join as well.

She must not have gone easy on him the first time through or he wouldn't be dueling a second time. So neither one was making a first move. As he sat apart, it was all quite amusing to him.


Akane duly noted when her familiar was safely out of the way. She didn’t want him to get hurt. She circled the lion and waited for him to attack. Surprisingly he stayed in place and waited. They face each other as she circled. This was going nowhere fast. First dance was a draw.

Well then, if he wanted to see what she was made of that was fine by her. Akane was sure he’d be cocky now, but that he wouldn’t stay that way. With a sudden surge of her muscles she rushed him. Her paws lashed out at him with claws out.

Jioni Moto had already decided to ignore her little friend and to focus on the duel at hand. he had no interest in loosing again. he kept his eyes on her movements and when she decided to make the first move, he was ready or so he thought. but still he held a smug grin on his face even though he took a glancing attack from her as he made his own move right as she did. but unlike her claw his actually was a solid hit. " you best not take things easy on me now or you might regret it." teasing, it was clear he had confidence in his abilities even more so than last time. which could ether win him this duel or be his down fall yet again. though he hoped this would be his final duel.

So far she was doing well, Que observed silently. A stalemate had to be broken and it was Akane who did so. The jackal turned his attention to the male. He was curious why the male wanted to join the Firekin. Why did anyone want to join a strong pack? Power, and safety, among others. When she moved to attack, the lion appeared to know at least somewhat of what he was doing. Maybe Akane needed more bouts with her pride mates than traveling patrols.


Her claws only grazed him a bit. Not nearly as solidly as she was hoping for, but any little hit counted. He was quick to counter after her attack, and he landed a much better blow than she had. Akane stumbled a few steps back to regain her footing.

“I never go easy,” the lioness replied grimly. She mustn’t let her feelings interfere with this fight; easier said than done apparently. He was fighting better than he had last time. So that was a mark in his favor. She came at him again, but flew completely wide of her mark.

"i expect nothing less or else I might have to question your abilities." he took another glancing attack as he had tried to dodge her attack. while dodging he tried to give a counter attack but his own swing was too short to actually do anything to her. a little growl escaped his mouth as he was annoyed with how he didn't do well with that hit. he always punished himself more than anyone else could for his failure in his fighting abilities. tail lashing, he could only hope his short coming wouldn't cost him his duel.

Que was almost surprised by this match. Akane didn't have the focus and drive he usually saw from her in a duel. There seemed to be an undercurrent between the lions that he had an inkling of a suspicion. He wasn't willing to place a bet just yet, but he had enough to perhaps start a rumor. Not that he was a jackal who started rumors, oh no.

The male narrowed his eyes and shifted his weight. The lion was giving a good account for himself. His next move would surely decide if he was acceptable to the pride or not.


Akane had a certain amount of pride riding on her abilities. Ever since she'd come to the Firekin and learned to fight, she hated to loose. Whenever she did she tried to drive herself harder to learn the counter to whatever move or moves had beaten her. Still sometimes an opponent just got lucky.

His follow through wasn't as hard as the previous attack had been. It was enough to set her back to avoid further injury. Nor did it give her time to launch one of her own. Instead she had to jump aside, trying to make a difficult target to hit.

Jioni grinned as she was left wide open from backing off from his last attack. sadly he came up short again as he tried to take advantage of this opportunity. which annoyed him greatly that he had come up short and had not aggressively taken advantage of the opportunity. " seems to me you need to step it up." though he felt instead he needed to step it up a notch if he was going to end this duel soon with a win.

He nodded slightly to himself as the duel continued. It was almost over. As an observer he could say the lion gave a good account of himself in this duel. Whatever he might have lacked previously he'd surely found it now. The Firekin would be proud to have them among their ranks.


She was loosing. Akane could feel it. Her moves had been less than her normal standard. Maybe she should have taken a few more rest days. There was surely enough members in the pride to fill in. Now she was paying for it by letting this male beat her.

If she had to loose, then she wanted to go down fighting! In a last ditch effort the lioness growled and rushed him. Attempting to box his head and shoulders with her paws. How she hated smug males, but it looked like he was doing very well this time.

his eyes went wide as she decided to rush up at him as he didn't think she had that in her to do. growling back, he decided that he would then just take her down if she was going to rush him like that. there wasn't much of a choice as the end of the duel was nearing and he did not want to lose. snarling he rushed her right back and attempted to use his bigger size to knock her down. it was his last ditch attempt at ending and winning the duel so that he could finally earn his right to be in the pride. he sure as hell felt he had more than earned his right.

Que could tell Akane was desperate to win with that last move. Usually she was more well thought out than that. Whatever the cause, this duel was now over. He rose to his feet and approached as she picked herself up out of the sand.

"That was well fought. The Firekin are pleased to accept you." It was more diplomatic if he said it. The shine in his eyes though, boded teasing if the reason for her actions were what he suspected.


It was a stupid, stupid move. She knew better and yet she still did it. Like a green raw recruit. Akane knew she deserved the smack down he delivered in his final blow. It didn't help her ego any better. Now she'd lost and he'd earned his way in. Was she happy or not?

Akane picked herself up out of the sand and shook it from her dark red coat. She grumbled some sort of congratulation under her breath as she watched him from the corner of her eyes. Time to head back and rest. She hoped Que kept his teasing to a minimum.

he was quick to allow her back up when it was clear the duel had finally ended. grinning, he was pleased that he had won his right into the pride finally. though it was clear from her grumbling that she was ether annoyed with him or annoyed with the fact that he finally bested her. " i'm sure I will be seeing you around again soon." giving her a short bow, he took his leave to now that their duel was over. though he did hope he would meet her again soon. for now though he was going to get to know the ins and outs of his new home.
