He's good at working with what he has in front of him, and rarely falls into the trap of missing just the thing that'd make it work. Occasionally he finds himself stumped, but he never allows frustration to prevent him from working it out. In the end, he believes firmly that where there's a will, there's a way.
SOFT-SPOKEN
xxx»» Cal might take the phrase "Speak softly and carry a big stick" a bit too seriously. Being rather large and somewhat intimidating, he rarely finds the need to raise his voice or speak more than the absolute minimum. When he's relaxed, he's very easy company, content to sit in silence. He doesn't see much point in small talk, given that it often results in one or both parties revealing more about themselves than they probably should have. When he does speak, it is calmly and slowly, clear as a bell to get his point across immediately.

xxx»» He's not a naturally trusting person. His childhood and teen years required him to build up walls, and to be careful about who he let past them. He's not inclined to give second chances, so one screw up with him is usually it. He doesn't hesitate to sever connections if he feels they are harmful, though he at least does so tactfully in instances where it's needed. In general, he considers himself to approach everything and everyone with a neutral stance, and allow their actions to sway his opinion, but in reality he's quite inclined to see the negative.

xxx»» Callum's grades during his school years could often leave much to be desired, but it wasn't a lack of brains. He's very smart, almost surprisingly so, given that he generally didn't care to apply himself and actually try. When it truly mattered, such as during exams, he worked hard to ensure he got good scores, finding himself only slightly hampered by a lack of attention in lessons. He often surprises people with his wit, given that he's generally assumed to be very large, very strong, and very lacking in brains.

His father was a drunk long before Callum was born, and he doesn't have a single memory of his mother without a black eye. In general, Callum's siblings tried their best to keep him out of harm's way, but it was often a losing battle. Their father's rages turned him into a seemingly unstoppable force, and often their only option was to hide in the storm cellar until he passed out. As years passed, Callum's oldest brother grew more and more like their father, falling in with a bad crowd in school and began lashing out as well, often splitting his attention between taking his anger out on his siblings, and butting heads with their father.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» The arrival of his Hogwarts letter seemed like a gift; freedom, from his brother and his father and all the horrors at home. Initially, it seemed he wouldn't be permitted to attend, but his mother went behind his father's back to assure he could. For Cal, Hogwarts was like a new world. His first weeks were a whirlwind as he assimilated. Unfortunately for him, his wide-eyed amazement was noticed by a few of his housemates. Slytherin house, he was told, was not for 'mudbloods.' He was bullied and ridiculed, and those who didn't agree with the opinion of those few didn't seem inclined to speak out. He had few friends, and instead buried himself in his books. Not his studies, no, but everything else he could get his hands on. When he returned home his third year, it was to tragedy; his father had snapped one night, killing his mother, and his eldest brother had killed their father in retribution. Bruce was awaiting trial for murder, and Callum and his siblings were sent to live with their aunt. Cal never felt at home with her, but he didn't at Hogwarts, either, and he grew restless. He began looking into careers, trying to find something that would take him away from everything.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Upon graduating, Cal applied to work as a cursebreaker, unable to resist the appeal of travel and danger and puzzles. He had a knack for dead languages, and while he wasn't the best with arithmancy, this was rarely an issue.
xxx»» In his mid-twenties, he met a young woman while in England on holiday, and, having no real home of his own, spent a very pleasant two weeks with her. He didn't think much of it when it ended, since they'd established from the start that when he left on his next assignment, it was over. He thought he'd seen the last of her, until he found himself staring into a very familiar set of eyes almost ten years later. He'd never known, but their encounter had resulted in a pregnancy, one she'd never seen the point in informing him about. But, she'd had no living relatives, and being Kiera's father made him next of kin. After a DNA test and a lot of paperwork, not to mention a rather awkward background check, he was deemed a suitable guardian for his daughter, and she was left in his care. This proved to be fortunate when a month later he discovered that she'd inherited his magic, as he could only imagine the mess it would have been if she'd been adopted by a muggle.
xxx»» Callum couldn't seem to work out how to manage a child, and took her with him on assignments while attempting to homeschool her as best he could until she was ready to attend Hogwarts. When the time came, he elected to quit his job, as much as it pained him, and take a job at the school. In the few years he'd had her, he'd grown fiercely protective of his daughter, and didn't want her out of his sight for so long.
xxx»» Adjusting to living at Hogwarts for the majority of the year, and cutting out his time spent in tombs, was interesting for Cal. He mostly kept to himself at the school, except for his friend Tesni, who taught Care of Magical Creatures. Eventually, he met a young woman while out and about in the village. Fortunately for him (though he'll deny it), his daughter happened to be with him, and thus was able to meddle him into a conversation with the woman, Kaitlyn. A few more encounters in Hogsmeage and he asked her out, and the two began seeing each other, at least casually. The 'casually' part was finally tossed out the window when Kiki conspired to get the two together for the holidays, and Katie questioned him regarding their relationship status.

She figures that it's better to ask forgiveness than permission, and wants to clear things up as quickly as possible. If she hurts a few feelings in the process, she'll just make up for it later.

xxx»» Kiki has always been very social. She doesn't do well when left alone, and can't stand to sit in silence, either by herself or with others. If things are too quiet for too long, she'll often break the silence with the first thing that comes to mind, no matter what it is or how inappropriate it might be. xxx»» Kiera was the only daughter of a single mother. Laila Everest was never particularly well off, but she did well enough, and they had a mostly happy life. Occasionally her mother would meet a man, but they were never around long enough for Kiki to really ever feel like she had a father figure. For the most part, she didn't think she needed one. She had her mum, her mum had her, and that's all they needed. But, when she was nine years old, she and her mother were driving through London on a cold, stormy night. She doesn't remember what happened, just snippets of screaming and the car rolling and pain. Her mother, sadly, died in the accident, and she was left to recover. While she was in the hospital, some letters and things in her mother's personal items led to her biological father and, lacking any other options, she was left in his custody. It took her a long time to get accustomed to her father, but upon the discovery that her strange abilities had originated with him, she felt much closer to him. Over time, she grew to idolize him, finding him clever and impressive and kind. She was sad to know that, when it came time for her to attend school, she'd be away from him, and so she was thrilled to learn that he intended to take a position at the school to be with her.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» Kiki's school years weren't the most eventful, at least with regards to her own personal life. There was plenty going on in the lives of her friends, sometimes too much, but Kiki didn't exactly find herself feeling jealous. It was hard to be jealous, after all, when things ranged from 'awkward' to 'terrible', sometimes even delving into 'outright tragic.' She did her best to keep up a positive attitude and to be the shoulder to cry on or fun distraction as needed, though she often felt at a loss as to how to actually help. She certainly regretted involving herself in the drama between her best friend Balder and his cousin Glynn, even though she was spared any personal involvement in what came of it. What came of it being a lot of death and horrible injury, which she tried to help Balder sort through afterwards. By that point, they were dating, so she felt even more invested in making sure that he found his way out of it. The rest of her school years were mostly quiet and focused on her studies, or rather, focused on studying so she had an excuse to hang all over her boyfriend. Or, rather, her fiancee, since Balder proposed to her before their seventh year of school started. She tried to keep the engagement quiet, knowing that her father would freak out, but her cousin got wind of it. She proceeded to do any and everything she could to keep Rory quiet. They got found out at Christmastime anyway, and Callum was understandably upset. But, he couldn't make them call it off, and resigned himself to glaring unsupportively at Balder whenever they were in the same room.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Kiki granted her father some peace of mind by holding off on the actually getting married part for a few years; she lived at home for a couple before moving in with the Borsons and beginning the wedding planning in earnest, as well as helping her mother-in-law-to-be out around the house and volunteering at the orphanage Balder's brother Luke ran. They were married in Spring of 2043, and Kiki announced very shortly afterwards that she was pregnant. She gave birth to a daughter named Leslie almost exactly nine months after the wedding.

Growing up in a less than stellar home environment, with a father who tended towards the strict side, he felt very restrained. Eventually, he began finding clever ways to get around the rules imposed by his father, and to keep himself and his friends out of trouble. He was well known for being the guy to go to when you wanted to pull a prank or cause trouble and not get caught.

xxx»» He thinks very highly of himself, in no small part because he's used to being smarter than the people around him (namely his father). He tends to let his confidence go to his head; most of the time when he gets caught doing something he shouldn't, it's because he took an opportunity to brag about it. Generally speaking, he'll even take the fall for a friend... provided he wants credit for whatever he's taking the fall for.
CRASS
xxx»» Rory's not the sort of person you generally want around in polite company. At his best behavior, he'll swear a blue streak just to see a person sputter indignantly, and he's rarely so well behaved. His sense of humor tends to overlap with the reasons he's undoubtedly going to hell, and he'll never hesitate to tell a tasteless joke if he thinks it'll make someone uncomfortable. This behavior is reserved for people he doesn't like, but then, he doesn't tend to like very many people.

xxx»» As stated, Rory doesn't like a good many people. He finds that most people are liars, cheats, or generally awful in some way or another. He's woefully pessimistic about the nature of a person's character, and thinks anyone who seems genuinely nice is up to something. This tends to stem from the fact that, the most noble people he knows are his own parents, and that's not really saying all that much. His father is a gambler, and his mother has conned people into paying top dollar for her fake jewelry in the hope that one day, they'll place the right bet and be rich. Sadly enough, as far as he knows, they're the least horrible people he's related to, so his confidence in the goodwill of others isn't particularly high.
BRILLIANT
xxx»» No one's really all that certain where Rory's brains came from. His father has vague memories of his younger brother Cal being clever like his son, but he didn't pay much attention before Cal was off to his 'special' school. As such, Rory's intelligence is something the family has trouble coping with, a fact Rory is more than happy to take advantage of. He slacks off in school and still makes near perfect marks, and frequently outsmarts authority figures when the mood strikes him. His mother has had him tested a couple of times, convinced that he was a genius, and that they'd find a way to take advantage of that fact. Rory responded by purposefully bombing the tests.
FLAMBOYANT
xxx»» This particular trait is another one that seemed, at least to his father, to come from no where. Rory's not one to shy away from attention, particularly if it's pissing someone off. So, he delights in making as much of a show of himself as possible. A lot of his affectations evolved from a desire to annoy authority figures however possible. He also took up an interest in art and theater, and with that interest came the sort of eccentric dress and attitude that is common among actors and artists. He's prone to wearing what he likes to call 'war paint', and tends towards bright colors, unless dark is required. Anything to stand out and rile up the people who've earned his distaste.

xxx»» Rory is the first and only child of his parents, something he's often considered to be a curse for himself and a blessing for all the children they could've potentially had. He wished he could say he grew up in a home where his parents hated each other's guts, since that's the normal sort of dysfunction people expect. Unfortunately for him, his parents are madly in love with each other, and constantly enabling each other's dysfunction, which has obviously resulted in a rather dysfunctional child. He suffered from a rather odd relationship with his father in particular, who managed to be exceptionally neglectful while maintaining a suffocating level of strictness. He was mostly left to his own devices, but still watched like a hawk for much of his childhood. It's not certain if he started acting out for attention, or just because he was bored, but eventually that's what started happening.
xxx»» When he was nine, fed up with how resentful and ungrateful Rory was, his father shipped him to stay with his aunt Blair for a couple of weeks. Rory refuses to speak about what happened at his aunt's house, but suffice to say it terrified him. Unfortunately, it didn't do much to impede his behavior. It didn't help matters that his mother was horrified by the state her son returned in, and said that if Gavin ever let that woman anywhere near her son again, she'd leave him. Or kill him. Rory was always pretty sure she was joking about the last one, but he could never really be sure. Either way, he felt secure in the knowledge that he'd never have to see the horrid woman again, and therefore, the lesson he was supposed to've learned went right over his head. Rather than being grateful for what he had, he was disgusted by the fact that his father had thought sending him to that woman's house had been an acceptable method of teaching him a lesson.
xxx»» The arrival of his Hogwarts letter wasn't much of a shock; he'd been doing magic for years by that point, and honestly, Gavin was relieved when the letter finally came. He claimed he was 'sick and damn tired' of Rory's accidental magic breaking things in the house, making the electronics short circuit, and all other manner of havoc that was caused. He'd informed his wife of the cause of the accidents as soon as he was certain that's what it was, as well has writing his estranged youngest brother to inform him that the kid was 'weird like you.' When the boy turned eleven, Cal volunteered to handle his school preparation, knowing that Gavin would likely botch it, or cause problems for the boy.
SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR »» Rory wasn't entirely sure how he felt about this whole magic thing just yet, but he did know one thing for sure; he was out of his parent's house for the majority of the year, and someone else was paying for it. That in and of itself was enough to make him love Hogwarts, not that he'd ever admit it. He even managed to make a friend, though he stopped after one because how many did a guy really need? Kimi was in his house, and was as snarky and contemptuous as he was most of the time, so they were a good match. Plus, she helped him pierce his ears their first week at school, something he'd always wanted to do. As far as he was concerned, she was the only person he needed. Until she stabbed him in the back, of course, but he wasn't overly worried about that, since there'd be no benefit to her to do so.
SECOND YEAR »» The first thing that happened when he returned home for the holiday was that his father made him take out his earrings, which he'd expected. That didn't make it piss him off any less, but at least it wasn't a surprise. Rory retaliated by stealing a ton of makeup and gaudy accessories and the like, the girlier the better, and hiding them away to wear when his da wasn't around. And, immediately upon returning to school, he and Kimi repierced his ears. He swore he'd do it every single year if he had to, because he wanted his damn ears pierced. School was fine, if boring, like school always was, and he developed a habit of skipping lessons if he wasn't in the mood to attend. His one true gripe with the school was that there was no theater department or anything of that nature. He'd try to rectify that, but if he was the one to suggest a club or something they'd probably make him run it, and he was A- only a second year, and B- not about to lead some stupid bloody club.
