Arivan woke early to the sound of birds and creeping things. He blinked at the bright entrance of his den, everything blurry as he tried to focus. After only a few hours of sleep, since the storm had kept him awake most of the night, Arivan had hoped to sleep through at least part of the day. But the sounds were of morning, so he knew he'd only gotten to sleep a little.

Grumbling to himself, Arivan stretched out as far as he could, dropping his paws off the end of his cottonbun fur bed and dragging himself forward rather than standing. The soft, dry leaves that he scattered on the ground of his den made a soft noise as he got up and paced to the entrance of his den.

The den, of course, was an old fallen tree, it's bark as hard as stone. The inside had been rotting away, so Arivan had cleared it out and painstakingly carved out a doorway. It was dry and warm and everything he could look for in a den. The glade it was in was perfect, too. Or, well, it had been.

Leaning tiredly against the stonelike bark, letting it dig into the fleshy part of his shoulder. Arivan surveyed the damage from the storm, now that it had passed. Somehow, in the light of day, it seemed so much worse than when the storm had been raging, tossing branches and leaves around, tearing the great trees down from where to stood tall.

Half of the glade was under one of those great trees. What was left standing ended in jagged, shattered, splitered wood. Arivan would have to be careful if he walked over there, for he was sure that there was more wood hidden under leaves and broken branches. At the very top of the jaggd stump, it was black and burnt from whre the lightning had struck.

Arivan was sure that if he crossed to where he could see the end of the fallen tree, it too would be back and charred. He really had no desire to do so, though. Instead, he glared at the large gaping hole in the canopy where the tree had once stood. It let in light where before there had been darkness. The local wildlife seemed to enjoy it, skittering around the ground and over the tree. At least breakfast would be easy to find.

Stalking out into the glade, he looked up, wondering if there was some way to bind the hanging vines of ivy together over the empty space, so they would grow together and block out the sunlight again. Arivan did not like this much light, but was loathe to move after he had put in so much effort in his den. So, he snapped at a passing etherquail to send it scurring into the shelter of the fallen tree, and frowned at the sunlight.

Dark Storm had been following this storm for a while now. As the days went by and the winds began to pick up the storm pushed on across the lands, but finally it made its dumping point. It had been quite the quick moving storm, as he hardly had any time to rest while he was following it. A new discovery had been made though, how violent and destructive the storms could be.

Most of the storms he had followed to this point had only be rain pours or drizzles, but this, this was something quite different from those. Was it because of how long it took to drop its water upon the lands? Several other questions like this one ran through the males mind as he tried to asses what made this storm much different from the others.

He considered the physical properties of the storm, the destructiveness of it, the light flashes it had produced, how heavy the rain was, the strength of the wind and much more. There was just so much more to consider for this storm. Making mental notes on each as he moved through the area it had passed through before the storm clouds had disappeared beyond the horizon.

He walked until he found were it looked like the heart of the storm was. Here was the most damage. Fallen trees littered the ground. The part of the forest he had come from was mostly just large broken branches, charred from the flashes of light the storm had brought during the night. Yes, he had been out during most of the storm watching it as it passed and it showed by how ruffled and drenched his fur was. But to him it did not matter how he looked his curiosity did get the better of him.

Dark Storm began to survey the area, continuing to make mental notes to himself. Lost in his own thoughts he had not even noticed that another was present in this area.

Arivan felt his hackles rise when he saw that someone else, someone he didn't know, had ventured into his glade without so much as a by-your-leave. He wasn't far from his den, which would give him a tactical advantage, should the stranger be hositle. Arivan kept to the shadows as much as they would allow, the colors of his coat making it hard to pick him out of the foliage and shade.

Not that he needed to bother, apparently. The stranger hadn't even noticed something was amiss, let alone that Arivan was there. So, Ari decided to take the time to examine his unexpected visitor. The dark coat he sported would probably make it easy to hide, if that's what he chose. It reminded Ari of the storm that had hit the night before, and he had a sudden wondering if the stranger's temper would flare and destory everything around him the way the storm seemed to do. Or if he was as calm as the clear skies above.

Or, if the other Elykosi just has his head in the clouds.

Arivan grinned silently for a few moments, but let the emotion fade as he watched the stranger. Because it was obvious that aside from paying attention to the damage the storm had caused, the stranger was not paying any attention. Arivan thought it was odd that the other Elykosi didn't at least check for others in the area. Of course, they were at the top of their respective foodchains here, but there was always the chance of being attacked by a less than favorable Elykosi.

Not that it had happened to him. Honestly, this was the first time any Elykosi had crossed into his glade. So, maybe there was less to worry about than he thought. Still.

Arivan didn't like being unnoticed in his own home.

"Stranger." He called, voice rough and low from a long night with no sleep. "What brings you to my glade?" Arivan stepped into the sunlight, body tense and ready to fight if the dark-coated stranger showed any sign of it.
