It was a hard thing to be an alpha when you were the only wolf out there, basically with one ally who was also, lets face it, an alpha with no pack. Quite the conundrum for Gajeel, hence his little expedition to the mainland where all the packs seemed to bump into each other at some point, maybe he could scoop up a few stragglers who needed a home and protection. Perhaps tonight he would not go home alone to an empty cave where the only thing that echoed were his thoughts, bouncing off ragged, unforgiving stone.
He felt hungry, starved for affection, for the hierchy and infrastructure that supported a pack and an alpha at its peak, without a pack, he was nothing, and everything, hunter, guardian, gamma, beta, omega and alpha all in one. It was a most uncomfortable feeling being all the things and nothing. He was a strong wolf it was true but a loner could only do so much. He caught the scent of deer..not only was he hungry from being alone, he was hungry from being hungry darn it. He followed the tracks, a doe...perhaps a pregnant doe about to give birth, he could scent the milk that would come to nourish the young. He might get himself pummeled but new born was a delicacy that was hard to resist...and yet he knew he would...he would walk up to her let her see him let her eyes widen in fear..and then go after a healthy young buck because there was something in him that would not let him be 100% a vileclaw..his blood was that of a Vurfang, and though it did not show on the outside, it was definitely there on the inside, coursing through his veins and making his life...complicated.
Oh if only he were simple, eat this, go here and done. But no his mother had raised him with her mate as a vileclaw even though they had once been Vurfang, there had always been too many rules for her, so she bent them and broke them and went off with her mate to have her large lone cub. He had always been alone. Something had happened to them one day, they had not returned, he had been a teenager with no pack, no parents, almost no story. So he had started to write one for himself. He remembered every night before sleep the dark shades of their fur, they had both been black as night, but not as dark as he, his mother had been getting flecks of gray on her muzzle and his father was always a gentle omega no matter that he had no pack. His mother had been a delta..he had wanted something more for himself, for his pack that he would someday get. He wanted to be there for them always, to take care of them as his parents had taken care of him before they had been lost. He still did not know what had become of them, just an odd scent in the area he thought they had last been. There were monsters out there strange and wonderful in the worst way. He had no doubt that something had taken them; hooved or pawed he was not sure. He was sure that he had panicked and looked for them all over and had had no success.
Eventually he had given up and trecked on alone, finding his island; Fellwolf then meeting Tahnee, and still to this day not a single pack member..maybe he was cursed. He saw the doe, she saw him, and he left her as he knew he would. Rabbit was more ..technical..if not as tasty. Some vileclaw he made, others he had seen would not have hesitated..others were not quite as broken, like a pile of sticks held together by sap and nothing else..hope was his sap. It was hope that drove him down the path, hope that caught him his rabbit and well no it was the rabbit that filled his belly.
He burped, huffed and settled down to think. He thought..a lot. Where could he find pack? It was what he needed above all else, what he craved, the balm for the rash on his soul.
And then something moved.
What was it? Was it a thing? Had the doe put off labor pains to come crush his insolent self into a pulp, was it a potential pack mate? Was it an enemy? He was afraid..but he was also glad of the challenge. Bring it on, let him die with a worthy opponent by his side, maybe they could die together and he wouldn't go to the afterlife alone.
Well that was a morbid thought Gajeel, he thought to himself.

☽x K ᴇ s ᴛ ʀ ᴇ ʟx☾xx padded over the broken ground, nose high in the air as a scent washed over him. He'd been out patrolling for the past week, right at the edge of Vurfang and Vileclaw territory. His elongated ears twitched as he heard the sounds of a scuffle some hundred yards off, and the great white wolf sank down into the dead grasses, eerie yellow gaze following the black Alpha as he settled down to eat his catch.
Odd. A loner? That was rare; the only true lone Alpha he knew was Rothar, and it was...apparent why he hadn't found himself a Pack yet. But this one... He seemed to be fairly normal, though it was obvious that he was a Vileclaw. But does that mean I'm supposed to attack him? Kestrel stifled a sigh; he hated this whole Vur versus Vile thing the Varsythe had going on right now. Surprisingly, the voice in his mind was quiet, leaving Kes to make his own decisions for once.
Slowly, the Alpha rose and warily trotted forward, sure to make noise so he wouldn't startle the jet-black male. He paused some six feet away, making sure to give the alpha a way out if he wanted it. "Well met, Alpha." His voice had a musical cadence to it, as if a song ran just beneath the surface. "I find myself grown weary, and was wondering if I could spend some time in your company whilst I rest?" [ [ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ: ] ] ♥

Gajeel inhaled deeply of the others scent, all off his senses on alert..well what creepy eyes you have he thought..then thought of his own blazing blood red ones and shook his head. He should talk. Now that voice was different, his own was base and a little rough from not being used all that much, he blinked at the other male. "Well met, I expect we could have a chat, I was rather worried you were a pregnant doe come to smush me, I must say this is a pleasant turn of events. I was never one for telling the future I'm afraid." He smiled a wolfy smile. Odd duck this one, but then he wasn't exactly normal either what with his hungry eyes and still growling stomach. Something inside him sat up and took interest in this male. Could there be something there he could not see originally. Hmm well it would be most intriguing to find out wouldn't it.
"Please join me," he nodded. "I'm afraid I did not leave you any rabbit, wasn't counting on company, as pleasant as it is." He licked his face and cleaned his paws of all traces of residue. It was only polite and he did want to appear polished, no matter who was watching. It was part of his code.
"What brings you out this way pray tell?"

☽x K ᴇ s ᴛ ʀ ᴇ ʟx☾xx watched the male warily as he sank down next to him, noting the gruffness of his voice. Perhaps he hasn't spoken to another Varsythe in some time? Kes was naturally good at reading others, and though this Alpha was a Vileclaw, he felt no untoward threat from the male. Amusement shone in his yellow eyes at the mention of rabbit, and he tossed his head, the bell hanging from his horn chiming merrily.
"Ah, it's of no matter. I hunted yesterday, so I'm quite alright. As to why I'm here..." His words trailed off as he gathered his thoughts. It was...rare for a Varsythe to not recognize him. The Mark beneath his eye shouted his identity, but perhaps this Alpha didn't give much care towards legends. Whatever the case, it was a welcome relief to Kestrel that he wasn't immediately feared or being fawned over.
"I was patrolling the area, seeking...something. Now that I think about it, I cannot for the life of me remember what it was, however." A small smile curved the Alpha's lips and he turned his head, yellow eyes meeting red. "I'm Kestrel of Howlsong Pack. Pleased to meet you." [ [ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ: ] ] ♥

"My name is Gajeel of the Salt Eaters Pack, I am the only member however, been looking for members for a while, but all I seem to meet is other alphas doing the same thing. Where have all the deltas gone? Its like there are clouds and clouds of them..until I need one, then your lucky to find one under a rock somewhere with half an ear and no tail." he snorted with merryment at his own dilemma. "That is what brings me here, finding a pack, finding a family of my own to protect and love." He realized what he had just uttered out loud and could have swallowed his tongue. Did he drink swamp water this morning or what?
"I'm sorry, you didn't need to hear that, I usually don't talk much and I guess it sort of built up." He wanted to lay his head down on his paws but as this was another alpha he wouldn't. He did feel a little hypnotized by that gaze however, kinda snakelike and that tattoo was sexy, he could have a tattoo but no one would know since he was all over black fur.
"I hope you find what you were looking for." At least someone should be satisfied this day, even if it was not himself.

☽x K ᴇ s ᴛ ʀ ᴇ ʟx☾xx allowed a small smile to play on his mouth; this was a rather quirky Alpha, he had to admit. But he had said what every Alpha wished for: a Pack to love and cherish and protect. Something in his words resonated within the male, and Kes tilted his head to the side, studying the black Alpha with his eerie gaze.
"You will find a Pack, Gajeel. As you said, there are many Deltas out there alone, and it will take time. But soon you shall find yourself absolutely mired in the duties of an Alpha, do not worry." A long ear flicked and the male sank down to his haunches, sitting next to Gajeel. Something about this male...Perhaps it was his attitude, or his simple happiness, or the way he'd shown mercy to the doe earlier.
Whatever it is, I find myself rather...attracted to him. He wanted to find out more about this male: what drove him, why he was a Vile when he seemed to have the heart of a Vur, what his past was like..."I hope I find what I seek as well, though I have not yet, despite my long searching."
Kestrel rested his chin on his forepaws, laying down and stretching out next to the male, feeling strangely at ease in the Vile's company. "All I know is that I seek for the last place the Old Ones were seen...the White Alpha and the Outcast Omega. Something inside of me forces me to search endlessly for them, in the hopes of bringing them back..." He risked a glance at the dark male. "And yet, I fear for the world if ever they rise again."

"Change is perhaps not as bad as the old ones seem to want us to believe, perhaps much good could be done if they did come back to grace us with their esteemed presence again." He might have been born under a mushroom but he did know who the Alpha and Omega were. "It is not the change itself we fear, though we do resist it, it is the unknown that comes with it, but tomorrow is an unknown, and so is the day after so really what are we afraid of truly?"
"What I find interesting and most forward thinking of you, is that you plan to bring them both back, many do not know that you cannot have one without the other for they each hold the twin tails of the world..or so my mother said." His mother had said a lot for a delta..maybe that was why papa had chosen her, he hardly said anything at all...oh memories. "Perhaps the thing driving you to search is fate."
Well if this alpha was going to lay down in his presence, then he could relax too. He tilted his head towards the other, his ruff waving idly in the breeze. It was a beautiful day. He had a beautiful companion..and someone to talk too. Something in him settled and he breathed a sigh of relief.
"I hope I find some soon, I've always been alone it seems."

☽x K ᴇ s ᴛ ʀ ᴇ ʟx☾xx tipped his head to the side, listening intently to the Alpha. Wise words. Gajeel was right on all counts: it was indeed the unknown that many feared, and the Alpha could not exist without the Omega. The white male dipped his head, nodding.
"Your words ring true, Gajeel. I wonder, though, if it wouldn't be best to leave those two alone. There was a reason they left Zareth, after all, though I cannot presume to know it." Kes slipped over to allow the black Alpha room to lay down. His yellow eyes passed over the male's form, appreciating Gajeel's lean strength.
"Why have you always been alone?" The sadness in the male's words was obvious. And Kestrel could understand his sentiment...even though he was blessed with a wonderful Pack, no one understood the weight of the burden the White Alpha bore on his shoulders. "And do not fear. As I said, you shall find them. Perhaps not tomorrow, or the day after, but they will come, Gajeel." His lilting tone caressed the male's name, liking the sound of it. [ [ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀ: ] ] ♥

"Well to begin with I was raised outside of a pack as a Vileclaw by my somewhat rebellious Vurfang parents, so I didn't have anyone but them to lean on in my early years, by the time I was a teenager I was convinced mentally that this was a normal thing but spiritually I longed to have others around me. Then came the day that I could not find them, I'm decently sure a monster carried them off, I searched for a long time to the end of my strength and could not find hide no hair, just a strange scent where I could tell they last were. That is the extent I know of their disappearance, which left me not only packless but parentless as well. It was then that I strove to be more than they were, to be there for my pack where I was left alone. Thus my attempt to become not only and alpha but a herald as well. There for them as no other can be." He dipped his head having bared his soul, the center of his being as he saw it at this point in time.
"I'm sorry for talking so much, this isn't like me, but when you've had no one to talk to for a very long time, well..sometimes it just all comes out at once." He inched closer to the other alpha, something he would normally never do, but something felt right when their sides touched.
