Kal shuffled her paws and nodded. "Lets try hunting the second one together. I'm not too great by myself, plus a 'der' could feed both of us, and leave some for you to take back to your packmate." She suggested, motioning with her head for the male to lead the way.

It was a good plan; Aurel was always famished when he came back from his excursions. Aur nodded, leading the way eastward towards more plentiful areas. There was always a chance of Vurfang appearing when approaching the stretches of green, but thankfully there didn't seem to be any in the area at the moment. The smell of Varsythe were rather stale compared to the much fresher scents of game. Eventually Aur crept up towards a small herd of 'der' and elk. He scanned the herd, looking for weaker prey. He would prefer a male; they had antlers, but the females could be pregnant with new sources of food. One that was old would be even better since they wouldn't be able to put up as much of a fight. They would have to plan this carefully once they chose a target.

Kal focused her golden gaze on the herd, quickly pinpointing what appeared to be a pregnant female with a limp. She flicked her tail to get Aur's attention, drawing his gaze to the female as she crouched forward. She kept low in her haunches as she inched closer to the female, before laying down on the ground, her back legs still gathered beneath her so she could dart at a moment's notice.

Aur tried to flick her back, shaking his head. Pregnant females were bad targets. One because they were going to give birth to a child - who would then grow up and become food - and also because they were generally accompanied by a strong buck. And those strong bucks were incredibly protective of their pregnant does. He glanced around, eyes fixing on an older buck with a broken antler. That looked more feasible. Aur once again tried to get the female Varsythe's attention, trying to shift it to the better target.

Kalliope drew her attention away from the female and over to the male. She gave a small grimace, wanting to stand her ground in hunting the female, who would be slower and easier to catch without using too much speed, but the omega in her that demanded her be submissive to those ranked about her. She let out a small growl and gave a nod to the beta and adjusted her position. Her stomach clenched a bit and she dug her claws into the dry dirt, waiting for his signal to start after the buck. She just hoped she could get one of the antlers to gnaw on later...

Aur didn't show his relief at deterring the female from her would-be prey. He waited for the elderly buck to the edges of the group before signaling to his companion that he was moving forward. He slunk forward, shooting forward to clamp his jaws onto the elk's one set of antlers and yank its head to the ground. The she-wolf would have less trouble if he was already dealing with the antlers, after all, and the buck would have difficulty flailing around with Aur's weight hanging from its head.

The dark female darted forward, her jaws latching onto the buck's throat. A hoof struck her abdomen, but she only tightened her jaws, tasting the blood pool into her mouth as she crunched down and shook. After what seemed like forever, the buck ceased moving, yet she held on tightly, letting his last breath slip out before she let go and backed off, blood staining her teeth as she backed up and lay on the ground, panting and waiting for the male to eat first.

Aur watched as the other "der" began to flee and scatter, making sure none came to pick a fight with them before leaning down to eat his share of the meat. He ripped off a leg to take to Aurel, and then gestured for his companion to come eat. He turned to keep watch; he didn't want anyone to sneak up on them.

Kalliope bounded forward, not needing a second invitation as she buried her muzzle into the 'der' and ate her fill of the beast they had felled together. When finished she backed away and looked at the Beta inquiringly. "I suppose since we have hunted together, that you are owed a name. I am called Kalliope." she introduced.

Aur nodded. "I am Aur. Aur Volkov," he introduced. "It's been a pleasure to hunt with you, Kalliope." Perhaps she would be able to meet Aurel in the future; he was sure that the Gamma would enjoy this she-wolf's wit. He may have suggested so aloud if the scent of other Varsythe hadn't filled his nostrils. "We should leave," he advised, grabbing the hunk of meat he'd ripped off for Aurel. If it was a pack of Vurfang - or even a pack of Vileclaw - things wouldn't end well.

Kalliope nodded and grabbed a bit of meat to go. "Perhaps we will meet again, Aur Volkov. Thank you for your help..." She said before trotting away

Aur gave Kalliope another nod before darting off. Perhaps, if the Outcast Omega willed it, they would be able to meet again. Hopefully, by that time, he and Aurel would find a new pack to run with - or perhaps make their own. But for now... he would run away from the approaching Varsythe and deliver this meat to his elderly Gamma.
