Neryssa comes from a rather large family. Her parents always the caring ones, her father a local merchant and her mother a crafter. She has an older brother Ahren who takes after their father, being a merchant, but he travels far and wide trading with others in other lands. Nadiya comes next, the bard of the family and the one that Neryssa finds herself closest to out of all the members. Third is Yira, a crafter and inventer like their mother. She is always the quietist of the older siblings. Then there was Neryssa and her two brothers Nyl and Nylo, Nyl being the oldest of the three and Nylo being the youngest.
Home life was always a bundle of trouble when the three were born, even as younlings there was never a dull moment. Neryssa took up being the hyper one of the three, her brothers Joining in with their own mischief. Often times they were shooed outside when the elders were busy and the three were underfoot. Nadiya often took charge often looking after them, Neryssa took a liking to her older sister more then her own age brothers. They didn't have the same motivation as she did and sometimes found them boring when they didn't want to do the things she did. With this, Neryssa always tried other things to get others to play with her, sometimes taking things that her elders were using, only to get scolded in the end. Other times it was just tearing through the halls and around corners with someone, Nadiya sometimes, chasing after her.
When all else failed, Neryssa moped around, with no one to pay attention to her, she would just sit around. Gloomy. She liked the attention of others, being in the spot light and all that went with it. During these times, it was Nadiya and her music that brought her around. While music was taboo in the house, being it brought back bad memories of her mother's sister. Nadiya often hid her playing, Neryssa following behind to listen. If the song played was peppy enough, Neryssa found herself dancing to the tune. Making up her own little dances to make herself smile and feel happy again like everyone was watching her. Even if it was just the two of them in their secret spot.
Everything seemed to go well, Ahren came and went bearing gifts for his siblings and wares to trade with others in Matori. One such visit he gave Neryssa a coral colored sash, saying that it reminded him of her bright personality. This became her favorite thing she ever owned, wearing it everywhere she went. When running with the other children that lived around them, even her own siblings the sash flapped behind her like a banner in the wind. Things were great. That was, until Nadiya announced she was leaving home when Ahren left again. Frightened and heartbroken, Neryssa tried convincing her older siblings to let her come. It took some talking and careful coaxing for her to stay with the rest of the family.
Watching her two eldest siblings leave home and Matori, Neryssa didn't dance much afterwards. While there were others that played music, it just hadn't been the same, it wasn't her sister's music. Even the visits from Ahren didn't brighten her up too much. Her family was still missing someone, someone important. With determination, Neryssa plans to strike out and find her sister, her friend.
The first attempt on leaving the family home wasn't the most well planned out, with a small pack of belongings and food. Neryssa sneaked out of the house under the noses of the others. Not even her brothers knew of this first attempt. smuggling herself into the back of her brother Ahren's cart, she went undiscovered until the road became bumpy and she yelped and nearly fell out. Thankfully they weren't far from home. Ahren, being one to always look out for his younger brothers and sisters, scolded Neryssa for sneaking out of the house and wondered if she really thought she could get away with it. Moping and moody, Neryssa was returned home where she was scolded again by her parents and sent to her room. This try didn't work out so well.
Months passed and Neryssa still moped around, not even wanting to be the center of attention, pondering how to get out again. It was her brothers who came up with another idea for her. It too meant that Ahren would have to be home, but they thought it was a sure fire way. This brightened her spirits some, but she still put on the face of an unhappy girl. The next visit from their eldest brother, the boys put their plan into action the day he was to leave again. Hidden within one of the crates, Neryssa awaiting to be loaded into the cart, just one thing stick out, the end of her sash, this tipping off Ahren, he knew that fabric anywhere. Opened the crate of to find Neryssa hiding inside. Once again she was left home with her age brothers snickering at her.
Heart broken, betrayed, things she hated to feel. In a fit of unforeseen rage, she picked up a stick to take after her brothers and try and beat them down with it. She was only stopped by Yira who, while seem as quiet and boring, wrapped Neryssa into a hug while she just burst into sobs. Why was the world so unfair? She just wanted to go out and find Nadiya and hear her play again. Was that so wrong?
Years passed and Neryssa never once stopped thinking of how she could find her missing sister. When she came to be a teenager, her brothers headed off into the town to find their own ways. Neryssa remained home until she could convince everyone that she was going to leave Matori to find hers. It took some talking, sobbing and a little shouting, on her part, but finally she convinced someone. Ahren agreed to take Neryssa with him on his next trip out, under the agreement that she was going to help him sell his wares. Behind that he was letting her go and find the sister that left them a year before. He hated the idea, but Neryssa was hopeful she could bring everyone together again. To be a happy family once more.
