"You're not allowed!" the child cried softly in protest, no real tears at the helm but still just as upset nonetheless.
"Teresina.." Baelan spoke with a sympathetic sigh, kneeling down on the stoop of the very large mansion. He frowned. "You need to be strong. You'll be with your mother and brother... you won't be alone." he assured softly.
The girl's frown deepened. "It isn't fair..."
"Of course it is... I'm going to doing some dangerous things and fighting bad guys... You and Royce are far too young to go with me. But when we win, I'll come back."
"...and we can be a family again?"
"Of course, love. I'll come back and we'll be a family again." he repeated with a soft smile.
The girl didn't smile but she seemed a little better about it. Nodding, he patted her on the head and opened the door.
She entered and turned back to look at him, a sad wave as she stood in the doorway. "...bye daddy..."
Baelan gave a sad smile and waved back. "...see you soon, sweetie..." he spoke then disappeared into the shadows.
A few minutes in the doorway in silence before the tears finally came, held back for as long as she could manage and no reason to stop them now, closing the door, she sat against it and cried.
It was a quiet night, one in particular that Teresina could not sleep. Sitting up and looking at her brother who slept across the room who was fast asleep. There was soft murmurs down the hallway, this wasn't the first time it had woken her up. Although she couldn't tell where the voice came from and why it sounded like crying. She got up, just as she always did, wandering the halls in the mansion as the staff of helpers slept. The voice got louder, and she was sure she would find it this time. In the... laundry room? Was a maid hurt? She crept to the edge of the a jar door, peeking within to see Helena on the phone. She was sobbing.
"You don't understand... I'm sure of this... You have to come............ No, I'm sure there is someone trying to hurt them... I find pills in the snacks and I've had to throw out the drinks because they've been tampered with. They are targetting them, you need to come before they succeed........... no, I don't think they are after me... just them... I don't know.... please... you have to believe me. I don't care what he says, this is serious.............yes....... y-you will!...... he did? oh thank goodness..." there was a smile on her face despite the tears. "In two days... are you sure you can't come sooner?.......okay...."
Teresina moved forward and opened her mouth, but nothing came out, a hand gripped tight over it as she gasped. Someone pulled her back before she saw it was her brother. "...royce?..."
"Shhhh.." he quietly hushed her and took her by the hand to lead her back to their room.
"...but why is mommy crying?..."
"....shhhh, you're just dreaming Nini.... there's no one there..."
"But there is... Mommy is in there..."
"No she's not... no one is awake but you and me.... go back to sleep..."
Teresina frowned and nodded. Eventually being lead back and tucked in by her brother before she finally fell asleep.

Teresina was dancing in the studio, Royce sitting off to the side watching her with a hidden sense of awe.
"Royce, Teresina, dinner is ready!" a maid called out. A big grin out of Teresina before she came to a halt and took off running. They didn't have the need for eating but they played the role like any other game. Royce looked alarmed before laughing and running after Teresina. They bounded down halls and down the stairs to the dining room, circling the table a few times in a fit of laughter.
"Now now, children. Settle down." Helena giggled herself, sitting down at the already set table before the two kids finally came to the table to eat. They were a few minutes into dinner when Royce paused at something off, something was in the bottom of the drink glass. His eyes widening immediately before looking over, his mother's glass half empty by now and Teresina about to drink. In a hastey motion, he knocked the drink from her hand to the floor.
"Hey! Royce!!" Teresina whined, "Mommy, he hit me and spilled my drink!!" she tattled immediatly. . The moment Royce and Helena made eye contact, there was a brief moment of understanding. "Royce.... go with your sister to get another glass." she instructed calmly.
Royce slowly nodded and took Teresina by the hand and drug her off quickly. In the kitchen, the maid was moving to get another glass poured. "No, I want to do it. It's my fault... I need to do it." he insisted and did so, carefully watching attendants before giving Teresina the glass and she smiled. He took her hand and started to lead her out of the room. "Hey Nini, let's go outside... I want to show you something really cool."
"But we need to eat!" she insisted with the stomp of her foot.
"Please Nini, I don't want to show anyone else but you..."
Teresina shook her head. "Show me after dinner." she insisted in her own right for consistency.
"Nini.... please." he was almost begging. "We need to go outside..."
Teresina frowned, why was he acting so weird. She took a step back.
"Nini... don't."
She was slowly understanding. "...i'm...going back to the table now..." she mumbled and turned to leave.
He grabbed her hand and started trying to pull her outside.
"Let go Royce! I'm going back!" . "Nini listen to me!"
"No!!" she yelled, ripping her hand away and running back to the dining room. She paused, seeing her mother slumped in the chair. "...mommy?..." she called out and slowly approached. "...m-mommy?..." she didn't know how to react.
"Nini get away from her!!"
The glass slipped from her hand, shattering on the floor before she ran up to Helena, shaking her. "Mommy wake up!!" she cried.
Royce was quick to pull at her, breaking her away from Helena, pulling her back with all his strength.
"Mommy!!!" she continued to cry. "Someone help mommy!!!"
Royce pulled and pulled until they were outside in the garden. By that point, Teresina was a mess of tears as she cried and Royce held her as tight as he could until someone came.
He could remember distinctly the face of Baelan when he was the first to discover the two crying children in the garden. The horror in his eyes before he vanished into the house to confirm his only assumption. The face haunted Royce every night until he could no longer pretend to sleep like the humans did.
Royce frowned, "...its time to eat..." he mumbled softly, standing at the doorway of Teresina's room.
She lay in bed, faced away. She wasn't asleep but she had no intentions of getting up. "....I don't want to eat....go away..." she mumbled softly, the obvious voice of someone who had been crying far too long.
Royce sighed and moved downstairs, seeing a familiar pink haired man at the dining table eating. He glanced up as Royce entered. "Hey kid, how are you feeling?" he asked sincerely.
"...I'm fine... just need to eat..." he spoke then moved to sit at the table patiently.
Baelan glanced out of the kitchen and frowned. He fixed a plate for Royce then set it down for him before moving to sit as well.
"So i was thinking we start a group... We have so many people by now.. But a group that is like the spearhead of operations, trusted people. I wan-.."
Baelan frowned, glancing to Royce. "Don't get me wrong, I'm interested but maybe we can talk later. Things are still settling and I don't want Royce and Teresina influenced by the renegades.. they are still too young."
Zaku nodded, glancing to Royce who simply shrugged without looking up from his food. He frowned, "....I understand." he paused, staring at the boy. "I thought still life didn't need to eat or sleep... Yet all I see them do is that." he mentioned curiously.
"Nini hasn't eaten for almost a week since we got here... She keeps refusing." Royce mentioned.
Baelan sighed. "Neither if them need to eat. Helena and them impersonated humans so she could run the company."
Zaku nodded, "Well I guess it's a good thing she doesn't need to eat if she is starving herself like this." he frowned sympathetically.
Royce stared at Baelan, then the food, dropped his fork on the plate and immediately left with a hint of anger or maybe frustration. . Returning, he stopped at Teresina's room. "Don't eat anymore."
".....I wasn't planning to..."
"You don't need to eat or sleep. And you don't need to be a human anymore..." he spoke harshly, hesitated then frowned.
Teresina sat up and looked at Royce with tear stained eyes. "....I don't have to...?"
Royce nodded.
She nodded in return and shifted her image, her joints becoming prominent and two dark lines run down her cheeks. She gave faint sad smile that was short lived once she saw the horrified look on Royce's face.
A long pause before looking down, her chest staining fast with blood, alarm setting in quick before she let out a scream.
"D-dad! Nini is bleeding!! Help!!" Royce cried out in a shrill voice, running to her to check her.
In that moment, she felt faint. Mouth moving but no words would come before she closed her eyes and began to slump and her essentially "lifeless" body fell to the floor. The muffled echoes of her brothers cries before silence took over.

The sound of cracking echoed in the darkness, pain that never seemed to come, finally surfacing, it throbbed and ached. Every beat of a heart that had honestly stopped all too long ago, sent shivers of burning through her body. Increasing and overwhelming until it was too much to bear. The screams and yelling and sobs overtaking the silence into a loud grinding howl that she wished would stop, but never did. Not until she woke up.
It had been such a long time she had been conditioned to sleep, it had been hard to break. But every day it was easier and easier to stave off the notion to slumber, as nightmares plagued her fragile mind. A gasp of unneeded air pulsed through her lungs as she sat up in what felt like a fevered sweat. The yelling usually stopped, but no, it continued in the hallway just outside her door.
She carefully crept her way to the door and pressed her ear against the door. The voices of her father and brother becoming clearer.
"You can't just leave us!!" Royce screamed.
"You and Teresina cannot stay here as you are. We will move to a safer place." Baelan retorted calmly.
"What, so you can go fight alongside that guy! The one that called you out to him when you should have been home with us, protecting mother?!" Royce screeched, livid with his choices.
Baelan was now silent.
"You can't do this to her!!" Royce growled.
"We leave in the morning." Baelan commented softly.
There was now a scuffle in the hallway. One that lasted a few minutes before there was some heavy footsteps and a doorslam.
It was silent for a few moments before she opened the door. Baelan stood in the hall alone, standing there in deep thought before he looked up to see the small girl staring back at him. "...teresina.."
"...where is brother going?..."
Baelan frowned. "He will be back. I need you to pack your things. We are leaving in the morning."
"...no, you have to go get him." she insisted with concern.
"He's fine, Teresina."
"No he's not! You need to bring him back!"
Baelan sighed. "I assure you he is fine."
"No! You let him leave! You were fighting because of mommy, and because of me!"
Baelan hesitated and frowned. He couldn't find the words to say. "Please pack your things."
"I'll go find him then!!" she demanded then moved to leave. Baelan was quick to stop her. She continued to persist in her efforts before he, in a quick but rash decision, pushed her back into the room and shut the door. "You are not to leave."
"Fine!" Teresina huffed in anger and turned to leave through the window. If he wouldn't find her brother, then she would.
The small girl moved the streets with conviction, looking for her brother before eventually, she started to feel more and more lost. The slow realization that she had messed up, she didn't know how to get home now and Royce was still nowhere to be found.
She curled into a ball in a side alleyway to rest before the tears began to fight their way through. It was at least an hour before someone approached her. A teen vampire meta offered to help her out, and after much discussion, assured her he knew where she could stay for her father to come get her.
"Royce? Oh! I know him! You're in luck, because I know where he goes when he's upset like you said. Come, I'll take you, and then we can call your dad to come get you both. Okay?" he offered with a smile.
Teresina nodded and took his hand. Lead easily to an unmarked building in the hopes to find her brother again. Once inside, she looked around, hoping to see him around.
"Hey, this is.... uhh... what was your name again?"
She opened her mouth then hesitated. "...uhm.. c-cordelia.." she answered. She wasn't supposed to talk to people she didn't know, so she figured this would be the best. Her dad would know it was her, so it was okay.
"Yeah, Cordelia here is lost. She was looking for her brother Royce." the vampire spoke.
"Oh, Royce? He's down the hall." the lady at the desk said with a smile. The teen nodded and lead the girl down the long hallway, beyond magnetically locked doors.
"...so why does royce come here..." she asked quietly.
The vampire was silent. . "...h-hey..."
He stopped at a room and motioned inside. "He's just in there."
She stared at him and then at the door. She opened the door and looked inside to see an empty room, the only contents a bare mattress on the floor. The floor was stained with something dark and a drain was centered in the floor. She stared with confusion, turning to ask him what was going on when something closed around her neck suddenly and she was violently shoved forward into the room, tripping and falling hard with a soft yelp.
The door slammed shut, the only indication of an outside world was a slot in the door that the teen looked through.
"L-let me out!!" she screamed, scrambling to the door and banging on it in panic.
"Sorry, sweetie, can't do that. You get to stay with us for a while." he cooed softly, then left.
"No!! Let me out!! Royce!! Royce, where are you?! ROYCE!!!"
Posted: Wed Aug 15, 2018 4:34 pm
It was easy to loose track of time in such a place. No windows to the outdoors, she couldn't even tell if it was day or night. Rescinded to sitting, curled up on the mattress. It had been quiet for some time. A day even, she was sure of at least that.
It was a while before there was a break in the silence. Yelling. It was always yelling that seemed to stir her the most. No. That was Royce's voice. She scrambled to her feet quickly and ran for the door.
"LET ME GO! AHH! NINI!! NINI WHERE ARE YOU?! NINI ARE YOU HERE?! NINI!!! NINI!!!" he was screaming.
"Royce!!!" she called out, tears already streaking her face as she tried to get on her tip toes, barely able to peek into the slot on the door. A glimpse of her brother being pulled through the hallway by two humans, already collared and desperately trying to gain control to no avail. "Royce!!!!"
"Nini!!!" he gasped and struggled to get to his feet, breaking free for only a moment as he slammed into the door with reckless abandon and grabbed her hand. "Dad is coming, okay? It's going to be okay, nini..."
"Royce! Don't leave me! I'm scared!!"
"It's okay. I'm here. I won't let them hurt you." he assured breathlessly, the terror in his voice never reaching his face. "I'm here."
The two human grappled Royce and pulled him away from the door. Teresina held tight to his hand, trying to stop them. "NO!! LET HIM GO!!" she yelled through the door in absolute hysteria. "ROYCE!!" she screamed as his grip waned and he was ripped from her grasp.
"NINI!!" he yelled back before they drug him further down the hall, the yelling continued until the sound of more magnetic doors slammed and locked. Then the agonizing silence returned. It was several minutes before she was able to force herself away from the door slowly and return to her position on the bed, curling up to sob uncontrollably, terrified for what she had seen and scared of what would come.
She must have fallen asleep at some point as she jolted awake by alarms sounding off. The lights were off, and the backup lights were on but dim as there was a ruckus in the halls, yelling, gunfire. A lot was happening. She forced herself to sit up, stand and come to the door. "...royce?..." she called out softly before something hit the door hard. She gasped and took a step back before the door slowly swung open. Baelan stood there, blood pooling up under the body of the human guard that lay just outside her door. "Daddy!" she exclaimed in surprise and ran to hug him.
"We need to leave.." he spoke softly but coldly.
"But Royce is here!" she proclaimed in panic and took off running down the hall where she had seen him be taken.
"Teresina!!" he yelled after her, just as more gun shots went off and he melded into shadows quickly to chase after her.
She ran as fast as she could down the hall, throw open the large doors at the end of the hall before she came to a full stop. Eyes wide in horror as she took in the scene.
An operating table with what could only be barely identified as a body strapped down to it. The blood had since dried and caked over used utensils and what she assumed was clothes that were clearly ripped open to make way for surgery into his body. His chest had been forced wide open, ribs and all. A few of his organs were sitting on the side table next to him. His face was another story, eyes removed and several of her teeth were missing, placed in a dish next to his head accompanied by two of his fingers. Even if there were doll parts, the blood made it no less grotesque than any other body.
Her hands were trembling as she stepped closer to the body and try to reach out and touch it. Gripping the arm, she tried to shake him lightly. "...r-royce?.." she stammered out. The physical movement jarring his body just enough to cause his head to roll and fall off the table onto the floor.
She stared with wide eyes, a sick feeling wrenching down to her core. She would have let out a scream if she could even fully process what she was looking at, shock completely taking over her entire body.
She didn't even hear the guards converging on her by this point as they aimed and opened fire on her. The shadows lurched upward to block the bullets from hitting the young girl, wrapping and enclosing her. "..close your eyes...it's just a bad dream.." a soft whisper before he teleported them both out quickly.
The moment they reformed, only a few houses down from the renegade base, Baelan let her go, stumbled a fell.
"Daddy!!" she screamed. . He coughed, blood creeping down his lips as he struggled to breath. The bullets had hit him and he knew he wouldn't make it long. "...teresina... go to that house....with the blue door... knock on it... tell them... who you are..."
"But you're hurt!!"
"...it's okay... i'll be..right behind you... just go..."
She hesitated and ran over to the door and knocked. The door opened and a raspberry-haired man opened the door. ".....can i help you?"
"I'm... i'm teresina... and my daddy needs help!" she blurted out.
The man looked out and blinked, seeing the man laying in the street. "s**t! Zaku! Come help!!" he glanced back as the pink haired man came forth with haste and looked out at who was in the street. "..baelan!"
The young girl looked back only to see her father's body turn to shadow and slowly fade from existence. There was a pause as tears overwhelmed her eyes and she turned to run out after him. That was until a hand grabbed her shoulder. Looking back, a shadowed figure stared down at her and shook it's head at her silently.
Zaku stared and frowned. He knew what he saw. Looking down at the girl. "...you must be teresina... baelan's kid."
She looked at him nodded.
"Come inside..." he offered and then hesitated. He looked around once more and his frown deepened. "...where is your brother, Royce?"
The girl stared at him before frowning. "....who?"

Speechless
I knew there was a risk. But I never expected you to actually-.....
How am I supposed to-...
How do I feel..
How do I process...
Are you still here... like my father.. watching over me?
"You can't be serious.." Fehn frowned. "What about Milo?"
Cordelia sighed but her serious expression never left her face. "Milo isn't cut out to be the leader of the renegades."
"...with all due respect, do you really think you are?" Fehn questioned quietly.
Cordelia frowned for only a moment. It was true that she didn't have the kind of confidence that Zaku had to say she was the one to do all this, but with Zaku out of the picture and Andy and Lucian not stepping up, someone had to. She simply nodded and didn't even seem all that offended that Fehn would question her.
Fehn nodded in return, "If you think so, who am I to question one of the Efficacious Eight." she frowned a little but then moved to pick up a laptop from a bag on the desk. "Here. It has all the information you requested. All the reports and process of building Thawne, the Meta city. It was a risky project for sure, but we are about ready to activate the barriers around city and inact the security check points to start allowing non-Metas visitations. Right now, it's only Metas there and the politicians have been none the wiser surprisingly. I never thought Zaku had it in him to orchestrate building an entire protected Meta city, but here we are."
Cordelia opened the laptop, powering it on and quickly opening and scanning through digital documents all while Fehn spoke. She nodded again, her eyes flickering with digital code as she intook the information. "I see. At least he had the decency to leave this for us before ******** off to play house with his boyfriend." she grumbled lightly, not really all that angry about it, but more concerned about the situation as a whole. Looking up from the screen to face Fehn, she spoke, "So the barriers will go up on Thursday..." she glanced to the calendar. It was Tuesday. So two more days and they'd officially have a safe place to call home. After some time perusing through files on the laptop, she finally closed it. "Fehn, I need to get on national television... you know how to do that, right?"
Fehn blinked in surprise. "You what?... uhm.. no, I've never-.."
"That's fine. I'll instruct you. I need our best tech person in each city to find a radio tower and hook into it. I'll stream directly to them and they will patch the feed to the television stations. I need this to happen at the exact same time to work effectively. So on Friday at noon is when this will go down. Get them ready. They'll know what to do." Cordelia instructed and then turned, masking the fear and worry she had in her heart over all this. She planned to put as many eyes on her as possible, give the Meta people someone else to look up to since Zaku had decidedly disappeared after the peace treaty was signed. It would be a difficult task to suddenly head the entire renegade operations, but she was very familiar with it's innerworkings that she knew she was capable of it. Now she just needed the favor of the people, which would be significantly easier if she took credit for the creation of Thawne.
Fehn nodded, "Yes ma'am, I'll get them coordinated right away. Anything else you need?" she asked, making sure before she left.
Cordelia thought for a moment, "Make the internal announcement of my return and tell them that I am now the new leader of the renegades." she paused, remembering this would also get out to SIU as well since they were connected in some fashion now. Oh well, she'll deal with that issue if it arose. She gave a single nod, "Yeah. That should do it. They all know me, so it shouldn't be hard for them to accept it." she added then pulled out her cellphone to check it, making sure she balanced her life as Teresina well with her life as Cordelia. "Oh, and one last thing, I need a gun. Hm, guns." she then corrected.
Fehn nodded in confirmation. "I'll get right on that." she answered before quickly leaving.
Cordelia relaxed into a worrisome look once Fehn was out of sight and she was alone. She hoped by making these rash moves, it would force Zaku back into his place in an attempt to stop her from getting hurt in all this. That was banking on the fact he still cared for her like family, something she was uncertain of these days. A heavy unneeded sigh escaped her lips and she opened her own laptop and sat down at the desk, beginning to work on her next steps. She'd need to get together a sort of outline of what she'd address while being broadcast. She'd need to push for a sense of fairness, full rights not just for Metas, but for True Races as well. The hard part would be appealing to the humans that it was a good idea to grant them even the basics of decency on an equal front, but she still had time for that. In the mean time, she tried to quell her nerves by playing some music and resisting the urge to dance.

Puzzle Pieces
"A-absolutely not..." Delilah spoke pointedly, setting down her teacup on the saucer in front of her. "You may be able to easily c-convince him, but I will r-refuse." she added with a stern tone.
Cordelia frowned and fell silent, considering things as she sipped at her own tea. After placing down the cup, she took an unneeded breath to collect her thoughts about how she should approach this. "Are you not worried about Michael returning to the Renegades? What if he gets hurt? Don't you want to be there to protect him?" she spoke calmly but she was just as serious about this.
"Th-the answer is still n-no..." Delilah was started to get irritated now, the pressure that Cordelia was putting on her to decidedly join the Renegades and break her years of pacifism just to aid in a war she wanted no part in. She knew what she was capable of, and her powers discriminated against no one, everyone was at risk when it came to her. "It's b-best I stay as far a-away from the war as a p-possible. I cannot p-pick and choose who is susceptible to my p-powers. You kn-know that." she struggled to get the words out, but she knew it was important to voice her concerns and adamant denial.
Even using Michael to try to convince her wasn't working, but she had to keep trying. Delilah was a valuable asset to her plan, she couldn't back down, not yet. "I can keep you from the actual fighting." she added then sighed. "Delilah, I really need you... they need you. What can I do to convince you to change your mind?" she frowned, starting to get desperate.
Delilah's eyes narrowed, "Nothing." she hissed back, annoyed that Cordelia was still trying. She closed her eyes and sighed a little. "If there is nothing else you want to talk about..." she stood up gracefully. "...I will take my leave. Thank you for the tea." she bowed a little out of courtesy and moved to leave.
"Wait. Delilah." Cordelia moved to a stand as well, leaned over to a bag next to her and pulled out a folder. "Before you go, please look at this." she requested and held out the folder to her.
Delilah paused and looked back at Cordelia with a deadpan look, one that held a hint of anger, but only a hint. She looked down at the folder before taking it without a word. Opening it, she scanned the first page, stopping about halfway when her eyes widened. Blinking in disbelief, she looked to Cordelia a mixture of surprise, fear, and pain in her expression, a small falter before she threw back up her deadpan look again. "....how..."
"That's not important... keep looking." Cordelia answered and frowned a little. She didn't want to have to do this, but she was left with no choice but to pull out this trump card.
Delilah hesitated then looked back down at the file, flipping through it's contents, her hands beginning to shake the further she inspected the words and images she saw on the pages within. "......this... c-can't be..." she seemed in complete denial this was even real. It couldn't be,... or could it?
"I assure you it is all very real." Cordelia added then crossed her arms. "Your answer now?" she asked carefully, now that Delilah had seen everything presented in the file.
Delilah frowned, staring at the pages for a bit later in contemplation. She was hesitating, but it was clear she was now considering things with this new information. She took a shaky breath before looking to Cordelia again. "....if this t-turns out to be false, I will k-kill you myself." she warned then nodded slowly. "I will join you."
Cordelia took back the folder and nodded in understanding. "I had a feeling you'd change your mind with this... I promise you, I would not lie to you." she assured then put the folder away. She then pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Delilah. "You and Michael can meet us here in two days. I'll let you know what we do from there." she smiled, albeit bittersweet. "Welcome to the Efficacious Eight."
