The Courtyard

Whether you are here to enjoy the garden or train in the designated outdoor training area located on the opposite end, the courtyard has something for everybody.

The garden itself is a small, modest area with plenty of shady trees and benches for relaxing at as well as a reasonably large pool at the garden's center for Water types to relax in!

The training area has soft but sturdy earth for sparring matches and practice dummies for testing one's skill and aim. It is also located in a specially made psychic ring that keeps attacks and debris from flying about and causing those outside the training area harm!

This entire location is just next to the Guild's back entrance, located through a set of twin doors and fenced off from the city beyond--unlike the Garden Park at the Guild's main entrance, this area is intended for Guild members' use only.

Cassiel

It was a quiet afternoon and Cassiel was taking the opportunity to enjoy a bit of a break. Erinn had managed to occupy himself with a project of some sort, one that was being kept a secret, so--rather than dull the Paras's sudden spurt of motivation by prying--Cassiel excused himself to take in a breath of fresh air.

It was the perfect day for an excursion. The sky was scattered with clouds and the sun had warmed the air to a pleasant temperature that felt nice on the Lapras's skin. He'd floated out to take a swim around the outdoor pool, and hadn't regretted the decision for a moment. The water was still except for the ripples his flippers made when they stirred it, and the scent of flowers and freshness was in the air. If only you were here to share it with me little one. While Erinn was a pleasant companion, the Lapras missed his home and the Pokemon there much as any traveler. He hadn't left the sea since he was a child, and while he had taken to his new life well he still had the occasional bout with nostalgia now and again. Perhaps one day he'd be able to visit them, or they him. Releasing a breath, Cassiel shook his head and began to hum, crooning a soft song as he circled the pond in the sunlight. It was a song of remembering and a song of hope, one of many known only to those who shared his species.

Eleanor--------------

The walls were surprisingly quiet aside from her breaths as she paced down the halls in quick transitions between running and walking as though unable to make her mind up between the two. Gods forbid someone saw her running in the guild, as they were walls of learning and support- sort of like a school, kind of. It was hardly the place for running, but long corridors were... tempting.
Her bespectacled eyes focused on each window she passed to take in the sunlight, greens, and blues alike. It was such a nice day. Back home, it was usually overcast with a potent chill in the air that always whispered warnings of snow. She preferred the sunlight, even though it burned her white, sensitive skin and caused her eyes to pain in weird ways.
She was approaching the Courtyard. With intent of course, but the thought still crossed her mind as the terrain changed accordingly. Then she ran.

Meeting and opening the door with the force of someone escaping a burning building, the Kirlia stumbled outside with a smile as bright as the daylight itself and a laugh off her breath over her success. Not that she was kept inside or anything, but she was here now! She'd only begun to survey the outside before her smile faded for a look of mild fear, then a curious confusion. The usual, when your eyes fall upon something you didn't quite expect to be there.

Her approach was quiet, but casual towards the water type making his way around the pool. She didn't make a sound for a moment, until "...What're you doing?"

Cassiel

Cassiel was lost in his song, gaze turned upward toward the clouds. His gliding was smooth and purposeful, never brushing against the pool's edge though he barely paid it any mind; there was nowhere to go in such a small space, but it was comforting to move though water--to feel the ebb and flow of it resisting his movements, so different from the air that was almost effortless to move through. The smile that settled on his face when he looked down again and closed his eyes, song softening to a gentle hum, was evidence enough of the pleasure he took from his actions. He didn't open his eyes until he heard a quiet voice nearby, and, with a few dwindling notes, his song came to a close when he locked eyes with the small Pokemon who'd spoken to him.

If the girl's age hadn't been clear from her voice alone, one look confirmed his suspicions. The Kirlia was somewhat disheveled and nervous-looking, but behind her glasses were the curious eyes of a child. Cassiel's smile remained as he looked down at her. "Enjoying a lovely day," he replied. "It's rare that I get a day off, let alone one like this." Looking after his Paras friend was a full-time occupation, regardless of whether or not they were doing official Guild business. "I decided to go for swim out here, to make the most of the nice weather." He dipped his head to the girl. "I assume that's what brought you here as well, hm?"

Eleanor--------------

"Oh." was the entity of her response. It was simple enough- he was here because he wanted to be. The Kirlia pushed her glasses back up her face with a finger before taking a select few steps closer to the pool edge and crouching down before a second nature flip of her hair around her neck like a scarf. She had to wash it enough, dragging it on the ground would just make everything worse. She missed when mom used to wash her hair every night. Her fingertips and humming were so soothing.
"I just got here recently, I used to live with my mom. We're from the north." Eleanor sniffled. Spring weather was heavy. "Did you swim here?" He had flippers, so surely he couldn't walk. Only Pokemon that lived in the water had flippers.

Cassiel

She didn't particularly answer his question, but it had been mostly rhetorical. It was difficult to tell what the girl was thinking as she came closer and took a seat, wrapping her hair around her neck as she did so. Apparently she was interested in chatting at least. Cassiel hardly minded--the company of another Pokemon was always pleasant enough, and her youth reminded him of the young friend he'd been so nostalgic for as of late.

"That's a long way to travel," the Lapras remarked lightly. "I'm always amazed at how far we've all come to find this place. I'm from the sea, myself." His indigo gaze fell to the water, and he stared down into his rippling reflection for a moment. "I lived there with a family as well, but I came here because a friend needed my help."

He returned his gaze to the girl when her question came, a smile crossing his face. "Not quite," he said, amusement in his voice. "It would have been a long journey if I did. The waters travel far, but they aren't connected enough for me to finish the journey with their aid." And while Lapras could travel by land, it was terribly slow and cumbersome unless ice was involved. This was one of the reasons he was such a unique figure in this area--it simply didn't suit the lifestyle of normal members of his species. As for answering her question, it was easier to show her than try to explain.

Inhaling deeply, Cassiel tapped into the strange magic that burned beneath his breastbone, feeling the thrill of it as the energy raced through his veins. With a gentle movement of his flippers, the Lapras pushed down into the water and his body responded immediately, sent upward into the air by the opposing motion. The water from the pool was absorbed into his skin almost immediately, and Cassiel moved forward, circling the girl once before allowing himself to rest just above the ground to her left. "It's much easier to travel across the land by air than by water," he told her. "I have the good fortune of being able to do both."

Eleanor--------------

She listened without much focus; her eyes wandering as if caught on a thought or something caught her eye before they fell on the Lapras again. Coming all the way from the ocean-- she saw a lot on her travels here, but an ocean? No. It must have been far. Needless to say, she never saw one before. Her neutral curiosity would soon light up in amazement as Cassiel lifted from the water below. A laugh escaped her as she clapped and jumped to her feet, only to immediate drop to her knees and look beneath the Lapras as one would looking under a bed. No, he was floating alright. With that confirmation, she stood once more with eyes still bright."That's amazing!" she giggled, "Did your family teach you? I wish I could fly. The sky is so big and open...!" She threw her hands up, feeling the nothingness between her fingers. It was probably nice. Windy, but nice. Did you feel heavy? Or weightless?
Relaxing, just slightly, Eleanor fixed her glasses and cleared her throat as though now becoming aware of her prior outburst. "Uh-um. I'm Eleanor, by the way but mommy calls me Ele, so that's okay too." She'd forgotten to introduce herself. Did he? She didn't remember. Oh well, she didn't need to address him or anything.

Cassiel

The expression on her face made Cassiel's heart melt, and a long-absent look of paternal tenderness settled on his features. "I'm pleased you think so," he said, unable to keep from sharing the Kirlia's enthusiam. "The sky is a big place, even I feel small up there," he said thoughtfully, "But it is beautiful." An idea began to take hold in his mind, but her other question came first. "You could say my family taught me. I wouldn't have learned without their help." It was too much to explain the particulars of who and why and how it had come about--besides, the girl was lost in her own daydreams by now, and a child's fantasies were something to be treasured while they lasted.

When she came back to earth, his small companion looked quite embarrassed, and the Lapras smiled politely and patiently as she collected herself. She was charming in her own way, even moreso when she corrected her mistake. "Ele. That's a beautiful name." It was nice to hear her speak so genuinely. Only children were so forthcoming, and it was refreshing after such a long time dealing with adults filled with motives and anxieties and secrets. "My name is Cassiel, but everyone I know calls me Cass. You're welcome to as well." It sometimes caught him off guard when someone other than himself used his full name, the nickname had become such a part of his identity, but he wasn't particularly picky.

He tilted his head to glance up at the sky, gauging the weather quietly. It wasn't terribly windy now, and there was still time before he'd be expected anywhere... "...Yes, I think we might." Cassiel returned his gaze to the child before him. "Ele, would you care to join me on a short flight?" He nodded to his back, indicating where a passenger would ride. "I can't teach you to fly myself, but I certainly can show you what it's like."

Eleanor--------------

She smiled. He wasn't so bad. Eleanor's only response to his accepting of her name was a simple nod as he gave his in turn.Such a strange name, and her mind lingered for a moment on how it could have been spelled. Names were very simple where she came from. If someone had it, chances are someone else did too.
Cassiel's next question left her momentarily off guard. The Kirlia returned a blank stare for a few seconds, replaying the question in her head because it didn't sound quite right. "H-now? I...Is that okay?" She looked back at the building in her words. That sounded like something against the rules. Naturally she hesitated, but still approached with caution. With the ok she'd struggle onto the water type, if not a bit uneasy about it, but he was an adult here so it must have been fine.

Cassiel

"Only if you'd like to," he responded, sensing the concern in Eleanor's voice. The last thing he wanted was to encourage her to do something she wouldn't enjoy--flying certainly wasn't to everyone's liking, especially if it was forced. "It's something I'm used to. My species often travel with other Pokemon--it's something we've done since before any of us can remember. A service we can provide to the world if you will." He followed her gaze back to the Guild and shook his head. "There's nothing to keep me from flying except my own choices. But if there's some reason you should not then it would be best to save it for another time." If she had to return to her mother or partner or something else, Cassiel would not be the one to keep her.

In the end, it seemed she wanted to after all, stepping closer to him with uncertain eyes. Cassiel frowned, but lowered himself to the ground to help her climb go as smoothly as possible. He turned his head back to watch, adjusting his flipper to give her a foothold, and felt somewhat better when she managed to drag herself to the middle of his shell. "If you ever feel unsteady, just hold on to the tine in the middle," he instructed, nodding to the one that rose from the center of his shell towards the front. He looked at Eleanor curiously, trying to gauge her thoughts. "If you're uncomfortable with this, there's no need for us to do it," he said gently. "We can just as easily continue our chat on the ground. Flying is only fun if you're ready for the experience." He smiled slightly. "But if you're worried it will inconvenience me there's no need. It's something I do for my friends--nothing more, nothing less. He wouldn't take off until Eleanor had made a decision one way or the other--he refused to do something to upset her, since she'd done so much to brighten his day he'd only wanted to return the favor.

Eleanor--------------

Oh god flight. She looked momentarily troubled when he reconsidered- as in asked her if she were truly okay with the idea- because she was, but oh god flight.
"N-no, no! I want to." Eleanor waved her hands before her with a not so confident, forced laugh. Of course she did! It was just... well, wow. She wasn't designed to fly, but neither was he. The Kirlia pushed her glasses back up her face, a clockwork habit as she made haste toward Cass, then hesitated. He was... huge. And not so-well designed. It took her a moment of assessment before tugging the end of her ponytail that rested around her neck, just to make sure it was still secure before letting out a small grunt, struggling her way onto the Lapras' back. "I want to, really." Eleanor smiled trying to secure herself on the water type.

Even now she was higher up than she'd ever been. Climbing wasn't her thing, not out of fear of heights- she didn't fear them, she simply never bothered to... but what a change in perception!

Cassiel

Eleanor's reassurances, while hesitant, were enough. Cassiel knew the difference between wariness and fear, and it was clear now that she was simply coping with the jitters that accompanied a new experience. "Alright then," he said, nodding back to her before turning his head forward. They wouldn't do anything too extravagant, but anything was extravagant to someone flying for the first time. She was settled and secure, which left only one thing. "Let's be off."

Once again Cassiel pressed against the ground with his flippers, but this time the action lifted him back into the air with Ele in tow. He pushed further, raising them higher into the air, then began moving in full force. It wasn't rushed--the Lapras flew as he swam, enjoying every stroke of his flippers. He flew up to meet some of the trees lining the garden, close enough that Ele could reach out to touch their leaves if she liked as he glided past them. He circled them a few times before turning towards the Guild building itself, gliding up its angled roof with a burst of speed, racing the wind to its highest point. The Lapras smiled, slowing to a gentle wading motion a few feet above it all. From here, you could see all across town, Pokemon wandering about their business, oblivious to the pair of onlookers far above. "Well Ele," he said, turning back to check in with his young passenger. "What do you think?"

Eleanor--------------

'Mom, I went flying today!' could you imagine?

The scariest part was probably feeling the weight of her insides seem heavier as she was moved upwards. Still, Eleanor kept her eyes closed, managing her resolve before opening a lone eye, then the other in turn. She wasn't as scared as she was unprepared, inhaling deeply before looking down at the ground as they rose upwards steadily. She never made an attempt to touch the lowering trees around her. She hadn't moved in the least bit since she mounted the Lapras.

"It's really big..." Her voice was quiet and small, taking in the world around her and her hardened figure loosening, allowing her neck some freedom to view the world from a new perspective. The Kirlia smiled as her fears slowly dissipated and she became aware of her safety. She wouldn't fall. Eleanor sat upright, though carefully, and gazed at the horizon. The wind was fairly still, which was a good thing of course. She pushed her glasses back up her nose. Would probably lose those if it were windy.
"...Is it tiring?" Eleanor leaned in with a curious stare. "Or is it like swimming?" Was swimming tiring for a water Pokemon?
PostPosted: Wed Apr 13, 2016 7:18 pm

Cassiel

She seemed tense at first, but under his watchful eye the girl seemed to relax a bit. "It is," Cassiel agreed, raising his eyes above her head for a moment to look out at the expanse behind him, "It's very big." But its largeness was a part of what made it so welcoming. When you were from the ocean it seemed enormous, something that could never be fully traveled, but the sky proved that to be untrue with its incomparable vastness. There were parts of the sky that could never be explored by the likes of him, places where only Pokemon with no need to breathe could go. He liked to think even they would need a hundred lifetimes to visit every inch of it though. In a world where you were a large creature surrounded by smaller, more delicate ones, it was sometimes nice to be reminded that you too weren't very large in the grand scheme of things.

He returned his gaze to Eleanor when he found her eyes back on him, another curious question at the ready. The Lapras smiled. "It's no more tiring than swimming," he assured her, "But they're both very different." It was hard to explain how the ebb and flow of wind differed from that of the tide, especially to a child who lacked experience with either of the sensations. "When I'm swimming it's very easy and natural," he continued, turning his head forward again and beginning to glide forward, heading out over the town at a leisurely pace. If Ele indicated they were straying too far it wouldn't take any time to return to the Guild's parameters, but since he didn't plan to take her any higher he figured she was owed a bit more variety in landscape. "The motions are more instinctual." He nodded his head to a passing Pelipper who waved a wing in return, beak full of letters. More often than not, he still got looks of disbelief from the Flying Types of the city when on their level, but the mail birds had gotten acquainted with him rather quickly; news traveled fast in their industry, and understandably so. "When I'm flying it requires a bit more mental energy, at least at first," he continued, "But after a while there isn't much difference between the two."
