On Ch 22, so starting the last leg of Birthright.
The last few chapters have been throwing things at me, but it's just been tedious, not difficult. The faceless don't scratch s**t and chapters where they're the most common enemy feel like a waste of a chapter. That includes 18 which I was REALLY hoping/expecting to deliver the way fighting the Hoshido siblings did in Conquest. Similarly, 20 was insultingly easy for being that far into the game.
That lava chapter? It's not hard when you have multiple units that literally take no damage from the Stoneborn. It's just extremely tedious and needlessly time-consuming when an area floods with lava and you're stuck waiting around for another Dragon Vein to show up.
Gonna do the Paralogues for a bunch of the kids which I'd been neglecting before moving on with the last few chapters. Perhaps those will be interesting.
Rinkah has been surprisingly excellent. I was initially expecting her to be rather lopsided, situational, and mostly valuable as a support unit for MU to make him a tank, but on the contrary, she's faaaar tankier than he is, can hit well on both sides of the spectrum thanks to the Bolt Axe (she ORKOs Stoneborn with it), and crits like crazy now that she has the level 5 Oni Chieftan skill.
Sakura has also been interesting in contrast to having Elise around. Whereas Elise grew like a weed with fantastic Magic/Speed/Resistance, Sakura has much more well-rounded stats across the board. Substantially lower in the stats Elise excelled in, but faaar better Defense, and now that she hit D-Rank in tomes and can carry the Horse Scroll, she's can comfortably take even physical hits. And since I have waaay more staff users in Birthright than Conquest (MU/Sakura/Orochi/Subaki/Hinoka/Izana and soon Shigure) I'm happy to use her as an attacker much more frequently.
I greatly miss having the horse Elise did, but gave Sakura Kaze for a husband to boost her movement.

You know what?
If Conquest taught me anything, it's how good it is when FEs make you think in different ways.
I'm not feeling the pressure as much from Birthright either, of course. I'm a little discouraged at that as I have said.
But what I am noticing is how much I want to use everyone. Except Silas since I used him in Conquest. I wanted to use more people on Conquest too, but I understood that it simply was not viable due to the difficulty and value of limited exp. Here, the pressure is not there. It isn't as easy to determine who to drop and who to keep, so I find myself more willing to experiment. Also, I am driven to draw more art, of Hoshido and Nohr alike. My mind is free to wander and think of other things while playing, even though I'm nowhere near as addicted to Birthright as I was to Conquest. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
So in light of this, I'm going to change up my approach and embrace birthright full-on.
I am going to ship these losers crazy and make it rain support conversations.

Aaaaaand finished.
-Pretty much every single story death besides the final villain was stupid/needless, which has turned me off quite a bit from the Birthright story. -I like how Azura is handled in Birthright more than in Conquest. -Sadly, the game never really challenges you. The closest moment is in 23 where the boss can make it rain down fire. But the enemies are too few and far between for it to be serious. -I'm surprised that none of my units hit 20/20 by the end of the game (although a few did hit 20/19), whereas many of them did in Conquest. Probably because the last few chapters in Birthright are super easy and done in a turn or two, Endgame included, while Conquest's last few chapters require much more combat. -Endgame is done in a single turn. Eh. -I like that the growths and skills Corrin gets from Hoshido Noble and Nohr Noble are definitely different. My Nohr MU was much more magically competent, while Hoshido MU was far more physical.

It's interesting to me how people react differently to characters they were introduced to in the opposing army.
Like how Birthright made Leo for Lewan, and now I feel like I like Hinoka a lot from what I saw of her in Conquest that I might not have gotten if I played Birthright first. Still like her in her home context, of course, but I wonder if I would like her as much if I didn't play conquest first.

I know I am a bit late to the party but chapter 19...
WTF was that...that death made no sense! That was some bad writing to try and ring a little extra angst out of the story.
Plus that was the most painless death by fire I had ever seen. It was like the character was falling asleep. If I was burning to death I'm pretty sure I would be screaming my a** off.

I looked at Chapter 19 and... Are you sure you have the correct chapter? sweatdrop Because this chapter is really characters testing their strength to see if they're worthy or not. I believe that would be Chapter 20 you're talking about. sweatdrop

Takumi is the best. I knew I loved that guy the moment I first saw the trailer for Fates.
How can one archer be such a badass but also so adorable at the same time??
Get yourself a man who can shoot arrows through people's skulls but get back home in time for a three sum of cuddles with slippers (because apparently he likes that according to my friends file)

I kept my info scarce on purpose, but from what I picked up I thought Takumi was gonna be "meh. Oh, he's the troubled one. That's fine, I guess. Probably not gonna care for him, but wevs, I can dig it." I adore Takumi now. Not my favorite character in the game, but he's up there. I had no idea how deep and real his personality and issues would be. Talk about a pleasant surprise. Some tears were shed over this guy. And his smile... I just want him to be happy!

He has the cutest smile!!!! After I finished birthright I drew Takumi all over my math journal. He and Ryoma are my top two for Fates characters.
