■ SERENE Ned has always been very calm, bordering on almost somber, and this has only increased with age. She's content to linger in the background, and while she has no issues with commanding attention when she wants it, she generally prefers to stay quiet and think before she speaks. Ned is rarely angry or upset, and prides herself on her ability to stay clearheaded, even in stressful situations.
■ DEVOTED Ned is extremely loyal to the people she puts her trust and faith in, and as a rule would generally do anything for her family or friends. She's a loving sister and mother, and rarely wavers in her dedication to the things that matter to her. Ned would rather die than betray those she cares about, and once you earn her respect you have it for a very long time.
■ CHARISMATIC Ned has always been charming and likable in a way that borders on manipulative. This came to a head during her teenage years, where she was quite used to getting her way and would do anything to keep it that way. Now that she's settled into adult life she realizes that not everyone is going to fall for good looks and pretty words, and has since toned down her approach to getting what she wants.
■ DISTRUSTFUL Ned tends to assume the worst of others right off the bat, as she sees it as quicker than being let down again and again. A gullible, naive child, she argues, makes for a naturally suspicious adult. In general she doesn't have a lot of confidence in humanity as a whole, and at times thinks she'd rather have been born a muggle, what with all the issues of the wizarding world. But once she comes to trust you she'll have your back no matter what.
■ PESSIMISTIC Ned's pessimism crept in during her late teens and twenties, and while not annoying, illogically defeatist, she does tend to keep her hopes to a minimum. People will probably disappoint you, and it's just something you have to accept. When she's feeling overwhelmed or alone she can get particularly gloomy, and it can take her a while to break out of her low spirits.
■ POSSESSIVE Ned was never one to share right off the bat as a child, and she has a tendency to want the total attention of the people she loves when she demands it. Obviously this isn't very rational, so she tries to temper her more jealous, overprotective nature by distancing herself emotionally from others, with mixed results. She doesn't like to be ignored.

CHILDHOOD Ned was born into a large, wealthy European pureblooded clan as the third child of six and the second eldest daughter. With one older brother, one older sister, two younger sisters, and one younger brother, she spent most of her childhood looking after and being looked after by her siblings. Her parents were not close with their children and often busy with 'family business', and when Ned was sent off to Durmstrang she only missed her siblings.
SCHOOL YEARS Ned was placed in Vihrea, and enjoyed her time at school, making many friends and very few enemies. She took a particular interest in Muggle Studies and muggles in general, never having much exposure to them as a child. On her breaks at home she spent a lot of time hanging around muggle communities, trying desperately to fit in and learn as much about their world as possible. Around the time of her graduation from school the sudden deaths of her parents were announced, though the cause of their deaths, which were far from accidental, was not made public. The Heist clan's family politics had exploded out of control and the secondary branches were rapidly dissolving. Her older brother Sparrow, now the head of the family, assumed control of their finances and guardianship of his younger siblings and moved them all to England. While not grief stricken over the death of her parents, Ned was left shaken by her family's sudden upheaval.
POST GRADUATION Ned lived what was essentially a life of leisure for her first few years in Britain, traveling around, visiting various historical sites and muggle and magical villages and cities, flitting from party to party and friend group to friend group. She had a series of vapid, short lived relationships, before growing restless and joing up with a group of other witches on a quest to find a magical artifact, mostly for the excuse to get out of the UK for a while. She was gone on a few years, and when she returned, was older and wiser and more ready to settle down into a somewhat normal existence. Ned got a job with the Muggle Liaison Office, and enjoyed herself immensely. Through her work she met a muggle man she took a liking to, and he to her, and what started out as a one night stand evolved into a fling that lasted until she suddenly found herself pregnant. Not only had he lied about being sterile, he'd also lied about being married, and both furious and mortified, she felt completely hopeless, even after deciding to keep the baby. Her relationship with her own parents had been cold and distant, and she had serious doubts about how she would fare as a mother. But with the birth of Orion, or Ray, as he quickly came to be called, to her distaste, one cold January morning, suddenly that seemed to matter much less. Now she had a son, and all he had in the world was her, and she resolved that he would never want for anything from her, especially not love and affection.

■ SPONTANEOUS Ray is quite unpredictable, in that he could be giggling one moment and wailing the next. His moods are hard to pin down, and he's very quick to change his mind. In general, however, he is very relaxed and easygoing.
■ ADAPTABLE Ray is easily able to adjust to new situations, especially given his age. Or lack of age. He's not very picky about what's going on around him, so long as his mother is around and he's not left alone.
■ CREATIVE Ray likes to imagine lots of different things and can't wait until he's able to start scribbling on walls and making people's lives a living hell in new and unusual ways. He has lots of idea.
■ INSENSITIVE Ray doesn't care much about other people's feelings. Hey, if he's hungry, he wants to be fed! You're tired, too bad! His first concern is himself and he's not afraid to show it.

CHILDHOOD Ray, born Orion Alastair Heist, is the son of Eluned 'Ned' Heist, a pureblood witch, and a muggle lover. His sudden presence came as a shock to his mother, whom had thought the man she'd been sleeping with was sterile, and to his father, who was married already, with a wife he'd also neglected to tell his mistress about. His parents came to some sort of deal in which his father would quietly pay child support for the next eighteen years, and his mother would not send him and his wife a sarcastic Christmas card every year depicting his growth. Ray doesn't notice that his father is decidedly not involved in his life; the only parent he knows is his mother, and he's very happy with just her, thank you very much.
