Star Wars Episode VIII announces new cast!Everyone seems to be excited about Benicio del Toro but personally, I'm really excited to see Laura Dern on the list! When I was a kid, she was my absolute favourite in Jurassic Park. What do you think so far?

That production announcement video! HYPE!
I'm excited for all of the newly announced actors and actresses. I can't wait to see what role they'll play. A lot of people are speculating that Laura Dern will be Rey's mom. Benicio del Toro said he's going to be a villain in VIII. I'm so glad we're already getting quite a bit of information. This wait until December 2017 is gonna kill me lol.

I can totally see Benicio del Toro as one of the Knights of Ren. And Laura Dern as Rey's mum? Yes please! If Laura plays Obi-Wan's daughter emotion_awesome emotion_awesome

Wow...Laura Dern is completely out of left field...XP. She's one of the last people I could see being in a Star Wars movie...I don't know why.
If she's not Rey's mom, she's going to at least be some sort of mother-figure, probably. Someone suggested she might be another KoR, but I...just don't see her playing a villain character, and from what we've seen of the Knights, they all appear to probably be male.

Maybe she played exile Jedi coming out of hiding and Toro seems always plays a bad guys.

I remember all the Jedi in hiding who played a role in the Force Unleashed video game and thought "I wish we got to see stuff like this in the movies"... besides Yoda and Obi-Wan, I mean.

Benicio Del Toro will make a GREAT villain. He's got the face and voice and swagger (seriously, his sway and how he carries himself as a badguy in other movies is AMAZING) to pull this off. Like, when Kylo revealed himself, with that hair, the hair is FINE on a face like Del Toro. Anyone remember Jackie Boy from Sin City? GREAT scumbag character but sinister in his own way. I can totally see him as a knight of Ren. HELL, I can see him pulling off the Despair Event Horizon that gives us the big plot twist of this series, that being killing Luke, thereby throwing Rey off the deep end into the Dark Side, or attacking Kylo due to his lack of progress and Snoke wants Kylo eliminated. Either way, I see Del Toro being a Dooku type character, integral to the story of the development to one of the main characters (villain or hero.)

I'd honestly prefer that over her being Rey's mom, especially since we've been told we won't get that reveal until IX. Stop teasing, baaaaaaw...I'm going to die...XP

I'm probably the only person in the world who isn't even slightly excited about Del Toro in Star Wars. It's not that he's a bad actor, by any means, but he doesn't seem right for Star Wars. (For one thing, he's a mumbler--every movie he's in, I have to watch with subtitles on if I want to catch all of his dialogue--and Star Wars has always been a very theatrical big-gestures enunciate-to-the-back-row kind of a property.)
Maybe I should start a thread for actors I would like to see in Star Wars, but won't get to. Like Eric Balfour or Kimberley Crossman.

But he does have a more subtle style than most Star Wars actors have traditionally brought to the table. Change can be good, though, right? I support Eric Balfour in all the things, just because he's a generally cool dude. He'd be a good space pirate, I think!
