Mythical Races

Whether they're formed by magic or the stuff of legends, Mythical races are those races that are so rarely seen that many people don't even believe they exist, or so powerful that it seems impossible. Dragons, the little known Cerberus, and even living trees, this classification covers all sorts of magical beasts for which more than any other, the term Monster is most appropriate.

Description

An unusual creature, scholars are unsure if the Manticore is a natural creature, or a fabrication of magic from some long lost era. It is of little matter now, as Manticores freely breed and have taken their place in the natural cycle. A Manticore is a strange looking creature, being a mixture of several races, having the body and build of a lion, wings similar to that of a bat or some breeds of dragon, and a long tail, commonly tipped with a stinger like unto a scorpion, and often covered with barbs which the manticore uses to great effect against it's enemies, or prey. Some add that the manticore has the face of a man, and though this falls under debate it has influenced many artistic renditions of the beast.

Manticores are not considered an intelligent species, though they certainly show much more intelligence than common animals. Whether they are capable of magic is unknown, as information on the beasts is limited due to the difficulty of observing them in the wild undetected. Their unique appearance has led to many attempt to capture one or even multiple manticores for use in freakshows and circuses, to nearly universally negative results.

Requirements

► Manticores are available by application only.

Statistics

Average Height: An adult Manticore can reach up to six feet in height, with a length of around eight to nine feet not including the tail, which can reach up to an additional six feet in length. Cubs begin life at about two feet in height, with a three to four foot length, plus their tail.
Average Weight: Adult manticores might weigh anywhere from eight hundred to a thousand pounds.
Alignment: Neutral
Language: Beast Tongue

Diet: Carnivorous
Food Points: 200
Metabolism: Normal

Racial Traits

Animal Senses: An animal's senses are highly advanced. They can identify a weak scent from a distance of several feet, or a strong one from as much as a mile, and even smell emotions on another creature. They can hear subtle sounds, like the changing of the wind or ants walking across the ground, and so on. All of an animal's senses are to this degree, unless specified otherwise.

Feline Grace: It is said that a falling cat will always land on it's feet. While that is likely untrue, felines of all kinds display feats of extreme agility and grace with great regularity, being able to fall many times their own height and still land safely, or move silently through a dense forest to stalk their prey, and run quickly enough to outpace creatures many times their own size, and all of these seemingly without effort.
► +1 Agility Per Level, +1 Dexterity Per Level.

Manticore's Venom: The barbs on a manticore's tail, as well as the stinger should they possess one, exude a powerful venom which the manticore uses to disable it's prey, or defend against attackers. The venom is a strong paralytic, capable of instantly paralyzing most victims the moment the venom enters the bloodstream.
► Whenever the Manticore's tail is used to attack, a twenty sided die must be rolled. Should the result be an even number, a successful attack will inject the victim with venom. Each successful strike will reduce the victim's Strength, Agility, and Dexterity by twenty points for the next fifteen posts, or until the poison is removed from the victim's system by healing or an antidote.

Racial Skills

Beast Roar
Description: By unleashing a mighty roar in the close vicinity of an opponent's head, large beasts are able to disrupt the target's inner ear by force of volume alone. The disruption of the inner ear causes the victim to have a difficult time finding their balance, rendering them incapable of performing any act requiring much agility. The target's Agility stat is temporarily reduced by half of the user's base Strength. This effect lasts for three posts, or until the victim is able to make a resting post. The victim is also rendered temporarily deaf, for the full three posts.
