Marie is definitely the reason no one should judge a book by its cover. She's a girl who is the second-in-command of an army for a reason. She's determined, devoted, and a true leader, but she leaves the leading to Markus, whose more of a natural. She enjoys listening to others' problems and giving advice. She's contradictory about that, though, and she sometimes has a problem giving her opinion. She has a natural innocent yet mischievous feel to her. To her friends, she's very fun and clever. She points out the obvious and the hidden at the same time, so she's a rather unique character.

Marie is one of Markus' childhood friends. he was always by his side, assisting him when he needed advice. Her father, Luke Regalus, was second-in-command for the king of Beringard, and he was devoted. Her mother died when she was young, so Marie was raised by a soldier. That made her become stronger than the other girls, despite her unnatural pink hair that apparently belonged to her mother, who was named Angelique. Angelique was apparently a sorceress, and her genes were passed on to Marie. She had to practice magic at a young age so she wouldn't lose a grip on her powers. Even so, Marie hates her abilities and only uses them when necessary.
Apparently Marie's mother had died of a dragon attack, but Marie never understood why her father hated them. Just because one was bad didn't mean all of them were. However, her father had soon died. On one big rampage when she was still young, her father had died protecting the king. She witnessed Matilda kill him, and she grew a hatred that day. She doesn't hate every dragon out there, but she absolutely can't stand Matilda.
Now that she and her friends are old enough, she has become Markus' second-in-command and now does more than give him advice. She protects him with her life. She has a life other than protecting him, though, but it troubles her. Apparently, she is going to lose her father's land if she doesn't wed at the age of twenty-one, and she could even lose her title. She keeps that away from her friends' knowledge, though, and makes sure they won't find out. She isn't looking for any suitors, despite her position. After all, she scares the boys to death.
