Beyond the gates of Sedem lies Reges Field, a wide swathe of land across which the city guards can see unhindered for miles. Anyone entering or leaving the city must pass through here, allowing the guards to survey incoming parties sometimes hours before they arrive.

Being so open, larger animals rarely venture across the plain, but smaller creatures find themselves attracted to the tall grasses that cover most of the fields, and in turn attract various predators. The city guards keep the predators away from the gates, but fledgling adventurers often use the fields as an optimal place to get some practice before leaving the safety of Sedem too far behind.

Varren stood with his back against the city walls, just outside of Reges. Looking up to the sky, his permanent scowl evident as he lowered his head to survey the area. "Damned city. Filled with nothing but pure bloods who think they're better than me. Can't wait to burn something..." He muttered, grunting as he pushed off the wall. He couldn't really stand to be in the city too long, the people of the city were annoying, they only treated him like scum, so there almost seemed like no point to really stay in the city unless he needed something. Sadly, the city was the only thing nearby that he could actually stay at. Prices were raised for him, he couldn't sell his abilities for a decent price, He was garbage compared to even unskilled pure bloods. He hated it. But, it was his station in life, but until he could change it, there was nothing he could do about it.

Varren took a moment to really think about his surroundings, he'd wandered the field and the surrounding area a bit, since he learned his first few spells. Even though his first spell was just Cinder, a well lit torch warded off several animals, and Varren avoided areas where there were goblins about if he could. He'd fought a couple of them, but it never ended super well. He'd gotten away, but just barely normally. But he'd recently come up with a new spell, and he wanted to test it out. Sadly, he'd be arrested if he tested it in the city, but there was an entire world out here. Nothing really to stop him unless something was more powerful. Or could resist being on fire. "I wonder where I should go. The Forest might be a good bet. Not like I'd run into anything too terrible there. A lot less tall grass to catch on fire there. There were trees, but they were slightly easier to put out. Or at least they spread slower. Most of the trees were tall enough nothing was going to catch the branches. "I might just wait here, see who else exits... Might get to light someone on fire accidentally." Varren said lightly, his scowl turning into a sneer of delight.

It had been quite some time since she'd started finding legitimate work outside the city. She'd hopped from one wagon to another doing various tasks to get here and there but this sort of life simply wasn't the sort she wanted. She'd never found the appeal of spending her own gold or finding legitimate suitors.. this way of doing things simply wasn't thrilling enough. There was nothing more annoying than the idea of spending her life with a man who worked for fun.

Laying on the back of some cart she'd hear what sounded like a change in the roads.. they'd nearly arrived. She'd look over to the traders now sleeping son who'd just had his run with her and got up to count 50 silver, that and a ride were all she needed probably to go back to seeking the kind of life she used to dream of. Detestable perhaps but she found the most comfort when around scummy humans like these. She'd dress herself peeking out to tell the trader she'd be off before his wife showed up. He'd slow the wagon down for her and thank her for her time and she'd thank him for the ride, work, and cash. Looking at the young man she'd go ahead and pass on trying to find his purse, she knew he'd already spent most of his monthly earnings. The rest was probably for food. A healthy customer is a customer that survived to come again and she wasn't exactly looking for new one's either.

If only I could find a few rich one's and just milk them for a while she thought as she dressed herself and got out of the wagon and began walking the field on foot smiling at the guards who saw something dubious and rather brazen happening. Here she'd see... someone. Not a guard... if he was a thief he picked a terrible spot to operate in. He didn't look wealthy but then he didn't look busy either. Maybe he needed some work done.. maybe he would buy some of her wares.. nay it was time to get more serious about getting some manner of stable career started. But company couldn't hurt, if nothing else a friend from the gate would have more useful news than a town crier. Brushing the hay and such from her deep read tangles and curls she'd smile and pretend she intended to walk right past him after very obviously having been doing something odd in the back of a trader's wagon.

She hoped to turn 50 silver into 1 gold in a day's time without going hungry. Hunger was for fools and paupers afterall.

Varren noticed a trader's caravan coming toward the gates, and let out a huff of annoyance. He'd probably move away from the gate, since it was picking up traffic. Varren really didn't feel like dealing with numerous people, but sadly it wasn't for him to decide if people used the main road in and out of the city. Curiously a woman poked her head out of the second caravan cart, Varren only noticed since her hair was a deep shade of vermilion, and clashed with the light tan of the cloth covering the wagon. The woman popped her head back inside the caravan for a moment and then re-emerged, and left the caravan. She was curious, dressed mainly in loose fitting clothing. Some would call her attractive, she certainly had an allure of mystique to her, but then again, Varren wasn't most people. Varren noted the hay in the woman's hair, the way she held herself, and most importantly, the fact she had no weapon. She smiled at Varren, and in kind he returned his default grimace. Human, of course it was a human. It wasn't like Sedem was really a city that ws just bursting with other things, and Humans were the most likely to leave a half blood alone when they weren't drunk or something. She seemed like she was going to merely walk past Varren, and he was more than willing to just let her pass. She wasn't directly walking toward him, more toward the gate, but slightly in Varren's direction.

However in a moment's thought, Varren realized she'd gotten out of the cart for a reason. Either to leave the caravan, as her ride was up, or to interact with Varren. However, since she seemed to intend to walk past, this put her in a position of power. Varren's scowl turned to a sneer as he decided he'd test this out a bit, rip away the illusion that this woman had any semblance of power over him. His sneer disappeared as his normal scowl returned. Varren pushed off the wall, and started walking forward, directly past Ogin, not even casting a glance at her. Varren could always double back later, but he didn't plan on being someone else's toy. Not again. Never again.

Upclose the man she'd seen seemed a bit younger than her.. She pondered how many years she could knave away before she got caught. Oh whatever she'd think mostly just annoyed with her sandals beginning to give way. Once this happened they'd be mere practical apparel and not the tools of comfort she'd bought on the way here. But at least she'd probably still smell as good as anyone who hadnt done much work traveling.. As the wagon began its way through the gates the man began walking towards her yet not so much, curious. Perhaps they were playing the same game.

Of course they weren't really playing a game and she hadn't come here to play games but it was indeed a game in some sense and she did come to play games in some sense. She pondered a moment beginning to get into her role, of course she was the odd one who just got out of a wagon at the gates, would he find her attractive? Aha, he need only know that she wished to be! She'd play with her hair smiling directly at him playing with the length of her dress like a maiden yet very obviously not some simple maiden considering the sort of company she'd just parted ways with in such a fashion.

But what's more is someone would need to make official this game. She'd speak to him but would only slow down as he met her halfway somewhat "It seems I kept you waiting..." she's say alluding to the fact he'd simply been waiting around when she arrived only to move when.. certain types approached the gates. He likely had less to gain from this interaction.. and so she figured that would be his advantage whatever his endgame may have been. But hers was that she got to play the role of the pretty woman being oogled. Maybe she was but it wasn't like perverts were an issue for her, her goal was to use him as a stepping stone.. or just use him in a less demeaning and more mutual way. Whatever worked. "...Or perhaps you're just out to catch yourself a snack.. but you certainly seem fit enough to work inside the walls." he didn't look the part of a hunter, even without looking at his gear there was a certain lack of.. hunter's personality. He didn't quite seem like someone about to fight with nature to feed mouths or even one mouth. But surely he was hungry for something. She'd have to find out what it was before she went too far with him. He could have even been an asset to her at least in the short run.

She awaited his response however intending to play it cool as he came close enough to get a good look at her.

Varren's scowl turned to a perturbed look, as the woman started playing with her hair, and smiling at him. It was unnerving, did she not realize he was a half blood? Filth in society? Or was she simply so depraved that anyone would do? She obviously wasn't being innocent with this, it was far too clear that she wanted something from Varren, and laughably, Varren definitely didn't want that sort of thing. The only thing he cared for was his books and theories. And fire. Fire was one of his passions, and the only reason he even thought to bother with this woman was her hair, the color of a low flame.

"Waiting? For you? I'm looking for someone with a weapon, not a woman who twirls her hair." Varren said, his sneer returning. This woman was definitely just looking for an easy mark, chances were, she had been... employed, by that caravan. Varren wasn't easy, or a mark, and the blatant flattery was just... hilarious to him. He was no longer unnerved by this woman treating him well, he'd figured her game. Playing too strong with someone who had grown up scum, living in the seedier parts of Sedem. He'd encountered many like her before, and never fallen for their wiles. "As for what I'm looking for, it's something to help me fight whatever I might find in the wilderness. Something to get me away from Sedem, and let me light something on fire." He said, his sneer disappearing.

Varren didn't know what this woman wanted beyond a companion, but his vote was that she also wanted the contents of his purse, something he wasn't willing to part with under any means.

She was hardly scum by blood but in spirit... he was a cautious one or was he perhaps really looking for what he said he was. His ever changing expression was met with an unwavering smile, a flirtatious poker face and a well seasoned one at that. "Really now, someone like that could cost you some money especially looking like that. Why don't you buy yourself some more presentable gear to make some friends with. I plan to do the same if you're interested." Assuming he was so ambitious.. maybe she'd be the one to make him an offer. Befriending and using him for the day would probably have to be her endgame. "What's a tour about the town worth these days?" Her trappings were laid out in an obvious way as intended. She figured he was too bored to bother evading such things as she and really many people were outside of festive and seasons and ones where most were too focused on survival to be bothered with such things.

While she was at it perhaps a few hunting lessons could help her get into contact with some buyers of this and that without having to deal with middle men.

"Money? I'll not give coin to someone I don't need. I'd prefer to have someone with a weapon, I don't truly need anyone." Varren said, his scowl deepening. "And if I wanted to purchase more gear, I'd have done it while I was in that cesspool of filth behind me. I'm not returning to Sedem for a long while, you can enter the city if it pleases you, I'll not be there." Varren said, his voice a growl at this point. She had mentioned that she wanted a guide, Soemthing Varren would never do. To guide someone around Sedem was to prance about the entire city. He was filth to those within the walls, He wasn't prone to waltzing about like some full blood. And definitely not simply to show a newcomer around. Varren found it pointless, if she stayed in Sedem, she'd learn the places eventually. "I'm heading to the forest, you're free to follow. Just know if you follow, you'd better follow me back, I won't wait for you, Human." Varren said, continuing to walk past Ogin toward Yrmin Forest.

"So you will be back then, I look forward to seeing you.. hunter. Perhaps by then it will be me showing you around" She'd smile as she had been now hinting at an alternative meaning to her words as the guards nearby watched on. Continuing on her way as though it were just another business transaction that hadn't bore fruit she wasn't exactly calling herself the winner of anything but he was either leaving for a long while or would be back, returning to what he called a cesspool. She was beginning to love this place all over again. She'd turn and walk backwards as she passed him "Whereabouts might one find such an adventurous huntsman such as yourself?" After claiming he'd be gone a long time the waiting game could play out in her favor.. well as much as such a game could there wasn't really much on the table for now. If he really did catch something however things could change. She'd need to find her income quickly.

Varren scoffed, hunter. He wasn't hunting, he was simply desiring to light something on fire, to kill. It wasn't about food, or survival, it was simply to kill something, to destroy something. This woman really presumed a lot of Varren. He wondered if he truly seemed like that, or if this was more of her ploys to entice him into spending coin on her. No matter what it was, Varren shrugged it off, thinking of it as merely her toying with him. "I don't know where you'd find huntsmen, try the bar or something." Varren said, continuing to walk further out into the field, and toward Yrmin Forest.

She now had a place to be expected at and an excuse to go to the bar. She'd also given herself a fairly good chance of guessing what the guards would ask her at the gate. She'd wave him adieu and go to prepare what would hopefully seem like a coincidental meeting later at this bar of his. Hopefully there would be one particularly famous one. Grinning like a girl in love she'd very probably throw the guards off even more as she made her way into the city. She'd have loved to try some hunting but she had 50 silver and needed to get to work.
