XXXXAva tilted her head curiously as as he said he was going to collect sticks. Why would they need sticks? Shrugging, she stared out at the sea and sighed. She was alone for a moment, and all she would do is close her eyes and listen to the waves as they peacefully flowed. It was calming, it almost felt like she was back in the ocean. The illusion broke as Edward returned briefly, giving her stones. What in the world were these for? Looking at the hole he had dug up, she began hesitantly placing them around it in a circle, finishing after a few minutes and returning to her original position.
Edward had left for a moment again, returning with a beaten up jacket. He wrapped it around her legs, making her a bit cautious at first before realizing it was for warmth. The grains of sand felt itchy on her skin, and the smell of sea water misted strongly from it. Still, it gave her a bit of comfort. She watched him twist sticks together, a peculiar notion she had never seen before. As he spoke, her eyes looked up at him curiously. His words rang in her ears for a moment, getting her the slightest bit flustered. Turning her head awkwardly, she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, "... It's not like I'm doing it just for you... I want to get home just like you do... I'm just helping you out along the way." she mumbled. As a strange light had sparked from the sticks, she jumped in surprise. The bright colors reflected in her eyes as she watched the strange thing dance. It brought warmth to her face as she leaned in a bit, reaching to touch it with her hand. She hovered over it for a moment, "What... what is that...." she said softly.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ Edward shook his head. "You say that but I remember you agreeing to help me before you had legs. Anyways..." he said quietly, trying not to interrupt the peaceful silence of the beach. Even the birds were whispering their chirps. He looked up from his work trying to catch her eyes but they were dead set on the fresh fire that he had been working on. She had jumped at the sight of sparks and was staring at it with childlike wonder.
"This? It's fire." Edward said, her question had surprised him until he thought about it. Mermaid, lives in water, water = no fire. He was amused by the way her shoulders curled forward and by the way her eyes widened larger than saucer plates in curiosity. When she put her hand out over it, Edward fell into a concerned attittude, and lifted it away with his. "You can't touch it. It will burn, er, sting you. It's feisty, kind of like you." Edward was surprised to feel clever again, he definitely hadn't since he'd met Ava.

XXXXAva was completely smitten with the light, perking her head curiously, "Fire?" she repeated, keeping her eyes fixed to the flame. She had heard the land term before, it was a common known myth among the mermen. Many of the folk undersea spoke rumours about the creature named "fire" and how they caused destruction and hurt to fish and sea animals. But it seemed harmless, almost beautiful as she gazed at it. And the colours, a bright fiery orange that reflected her hair mixed with a yellow as bright as the sun and tints of red. It was spectacular.
Edward pushed away her own hands as she tried to touch it. She frowned when he called her feisty, "Hmph." she huffed, though was instantly cheered up as she looked upon the flame again. A small smile formed as she tilted her head, "I suppose... humankind isn't terrible." she said softly, "I mean... if you can make such beautiful things, you aren't completely flawed." she sneered.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ Edward chuckled. He had not seen that kind of reaction in a long time, not since he himself was a child and everything was mystifying. "I never thought of it as beautiful before, more as a necessity, but I guess I've been around it my whole life." When Edward starred at it though, watching it dance through across the branches and flicker up at him, he could recognize the fascination. "Thanks, on behalf of humans it's good as one to hear that you don't think we're completely useless. Maybe along the way I can convince you that I'm not completely flawed myself, although it's hard to convince myself some times."
Edward leaned back onto to his elbows, realizing that this was the first time he had relaxed since washing up on that island. "So," Edward said, tilting his head. When he thought about he actually had experienced that amazement he saw reflected on Ava's face recently. "I suppose you have plenty of beautiful things from wherever you come from. Probably a lot of stories for me, since you usually drown humans, not sit around a fire with them. I'm curious." He could imagine life as a mermaid on an island full of fantasy could be exciting.♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ edward thaig

XXXXAva pulled the dusty jacket over her legs, keeping her hands elevated above the flame to engulf the warmth. She glanced at Edward, who had asked her about stories. By this time, night had set on Neverland, and everywhere around her was dark aside from a small area illuminated by the fire. The light shined on particular parts of Edward's face, bringing out the sparkle in his eyes and shadowing his cheekbones. He was attractive, no wonder the fairies swooned. But she wouldn't give in to his looks, or his charm. She paused for a moment, keeping her eyes on the dancing flame as she thought. Her eyes shifted to him, locking with his own for a moment, "Stories?" she said finally, wondering why he would want to hear about those, "Why should I tell you anything about my life?" she said harshly, regaining her cruel character.
She bit her lip, pausing once more. A memory popped into mind, tempting her to tell. It was a secret that she kept, something that she didn't share with even her closest friends. But, well, she gave into the temptation, "... Once, I was travelling around skull rock," she began, "I came across a ship... Human ship, obviously. It's not uncommon for travelers to get caught in Neverland, it happens alot. Mermaids... our job is to lure them into the rocks, crash their boat if the waves don't do it first. So obviously, I went to carry out the deed. But then I heard... a song. But it wasn't like anything I'd ever heard. There was no voices, nobody was singing. It sounded pure, and echoed through the cave." she said softly, thinking about the strange music she had heard, "I thought it was weird. Even though they were lost, they just played music. Their strange song. I... that was the first time I'd ever spared a human ship." she finished. The fire crackled loudly as Ava let out a sigh, reminiscing about the tune she heard.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ Edward took in Ava's face as she pondered his question. He stretched his legs by the fire, only to be scrunched back into a tight kneed position shuttering at Ava's hostility. His mouth flapped open to answer and then shut again. She didn't have to tell him any thing. They hardly even knew eachother but that failed to stifle his curiosity. Before he could decided whether to ask or shut up she changed her tone.
Edward closed his eyes thoughtfully as he listened. It took a great deal of restraint not to smile, restraint he didn't have. He scooted closer to Ava and poked her shoulder. "Softie," he said grinning. He made light but he was honestly relieved to hear something like that. Not as black and white as they say. Edward figured that she was most likely talking about an instrument of some sorts. "Well," he started. "I can't pull a flute out thin air but I know a trick." He plucked a leaf from the sand, folded it, and pressed it to his lips. It was fickle and pitchy, but it held a tune, and he played a slow melody that he mother used to hum. He finished and pinched the leaf in his fingers, satisfied. "Probably not as life saving but still... beautiful." ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ edward thaig

XXXXAva glared at Edward as he called her a softie. She became slightly flustered, not used to sharing her feelings. She wasn't even used to having feelings. She scoffed softly as he poked her, "Hmph." she huffed softly, not able to retort back. He was closer now, and she was conscious of that. Up close she could make note of his every feature. His eyes were glossy, especially against the warm fire light, his hair looked softer than a bed of seaweed and his body was muscular. Averting her eye, she simply listened as he said he knew a trick.
She tilted her head a bit, glancing at him from the side. He took out a leaf, folding it to his will, and pressed it against his lips. To her surprise, he let out a strange tune, playing a melody she had never heard before. It was flawed, and the leaf didn't produce a great sound, but she still found it alluring. Getting mesmerized by the tune, she looked at him in a daze as he ended the song. Pulling her gaze from him, she looked up at the night sky, "That's a nice tune..." she mumbled. Unconsciously, she began to hum it, mimicking the melody she had heard. She was glad to find that even though she was human, her voice was the same. It didn't have the seducing powers it once held, but the same beautiful pitch was produced.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ Edward listen to his mother's song stream into the air. It was all around him, relaxing him, telling him that everything was going to be okay just like his mother's voice, but it wasn't his mother. Ava's voice was more precise, more melodic that anything he had ever heard, it was far more professional that his mother's voice. It held all the warmth and feelings that she seemed to lack on the outside. Edward sighed, "that was beautiful."
"There were instruments on the ship, you know. Maybe if we run into the... wreckage-" Edward gulped. He hadn't thought much about the boat since he had first arrived. It could be at the bottom of the ocean for all they knew. He looked around him at the cliff at the end of the sand. That was a likely spot, he couldn't of drifted too far from the ship. His mind flicked to the sailors and straggler passangers like him that had occupied it. "Well, we'll see. We should get some rest." Edward tucked his arm around his head and streched out his body. He felt the ends of his hairs brush against Ava's leg, but he was too tired suddenly to think about it. He had to be ready for tomorrow. ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ edward thaig

XXXXAva held in a satisfied smile as he complimented her, "Of course. I'm a siren, it has to be beautiful." she said sarcastically. He mentioned his ship again, saying that there were instruments on it. He seemed to hold off as he realized that his entire crew could have been killed. The night before had been stormy, most of the sirens took cover for the night. Ava had only popped into the surface because the skies were always bluer after a long storm. It hadn't occurred to her that there were other humans wondering about. She decided not to tell him that they were more than likely dead.
He cut himself up and ended with the declaration that they needed rest. Nodded, she watched as he laid down, lightly brushing against her. It reminded her that they were close, closer than she expected. But, well, it was strangely warm around him. Slowly, she laid down her head on the soft bed of sand, staring up at the sky. Her vibrant red hair sprawled around her, and her slender fingers rested on her cold stomach. She let out a sigh, closing her eyes as she drifted off to sleep, almost convincing herself that she was back at home, back in the water.
Ava woke up with a panting start, hastily turning around as if still entranced by a nightmare. She was shocked at first, wondering what she was doing out of the sea. Then her eyes set on her legs, and the reality hit her like a strong wave. She groaned, calming down in the slightest. She looked beside her, noticing Edward. Rolling her eyes, she nudged him harshly with her knee, "Wake up. We've got no time to waste." she said coldly, pushing off the sand and balancing herself up with the stick from the night before. She stood tall for a while, waiting for Edward to fully awaken.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ Edward had dreamed of being in the ocean, alone. He saw the ship in the distance and screamed for help but before the sound even left his throat he was submerged in the water. This ship was under him now, the whole thing sinking to the ground with him on it, he could see the lightning flickering over the oceantop. He closed his eyes and he could suddenly breath, air tickled his face, and lapped at his shirt and hair. When he opened his eyes though he saw Ava starring down at him leaning on her stick. His dream disappeared with a groan.
He shook out the sand that had collected in his hair from laying in it and brushed it off his clothes. He pulled himself to his feet and kicked sand into the cold fire pit, the flame had died in the night. Edward squinted at the ocean licking his parched lips, he needed water. His stomach growled to make it's emptiness known. "Right," he agreed. "We ought to get there before I starve to death." He wasn't sure he wanted to eat anything on this island anyways. ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ edward thaig

XXXXAva raised an eyebrow when he said that he would starve. How could he be hungry? It had been barely a day. She usually didn't have to eat for every couple days, but perhaps it was unusual to humans. Come to think of it, her stomach felt like it had a hug whole in it. Furrowing her brows, she placed a hand on it and looked up at Edward, "Well... first let's focus on the whole new legs situation." she said, gesturing to her bottom half. She slowly picked up the dusty jacket and tied the arms firmly around her waist. At least now she wouldn't feel entirely freezing.
She looked around the beach, hoping that no one she knew was around. She then looked in a certain area. Pointing a finger in it's direction she stared off into the distance, "Mermaid's Lagoon is in that direction. If we follow the coast, it shouldn't take long. But... I don't know how efficient these land fins are." she shrugged.
