Upon entering the shop you are in a small entrance area lined with lockers. The sign before you prompts you to leave your shoes and all weapons behind. You do as instructed, as it is just big enough for most objects, and take the key before pushing past red curtains only to be greeted by a strong smell of freshly brewed tea and a hint of smoke from the hookahs. The room is dim lit and live music is played throughout the air, accompanied by the rushing water of the koi pond in the middle of the room. You cross over a small wooden bridge, that is over a stream of water that connects to the pond, and make your way over to the main area of the room with it. Surrounding it are several round seating areas that are below the actual floor itself, lining the walls of the shop are private rooms that are separated by rice paper sliding doors.
At the far end, beyond the pond, is where the stage where the musicians sit, though on some nights rakugo is put on for guests to enjoy.
The overall feel of the room takes on a Japanese type style, it is warm and rather comforting if not euphoric. It helps that the shop is treated much like a host/hostess club where you are allowed to request waiters to your liking and even have them sit and chat with you.
You have yet to see the actual owner but it is rumored that he is often in disguise and has never shown his face, much less told his name in a long time.Regardless you feel at ease.
