She rules her life like a bird in flight...

"Lookin' good," She heard a male catcall at her, even through the blaring music coming through her headphones. She was used to the attention. It happened everywhere she went, so naturally, it didn't bother her too much. She only scowled in response and continued walking, on her way back home.

It was one of those nights where the redhead hardly felt like cooking. What she wanted was a nice, nighttime stroll and chinese takeout and that's what she'd gotten. She only hoped her neighbor liked chinese food as well. It was kind of difficult picking out food for a male that she hardly knew. But she figured, with the work that he did, he'd be willing to eat just about anything. She glanced down at her wristwatch. Eight o'clock . She was a little worried that her neighbor would make it home before she had time to leave the food on his doorstep where he'd see it.

She kind of chuckled at the way she referred to her neighbor. She didn't even know his name, and she had been living in the same house for almost nine months. She only knew him as Star Flash. She didn't even have to talk to him in order to figure it out because he wasn't too good at hiding his identity. Victoria was shy like that. She would never introduce herself to someone unless they introduced themselves to her first, out of fear of being a nuisance to others. She would always observe from the sidelines, other people.

Finally, after a semi-long walk, she made it home. She walked up her neighbor's front porch steps, and stopped, digging her food out of the bag, and leaving the rest for him in the same spot that she had always left him food for months now. She headed now to her own tiny little home. It was a simple town house, two bedrooms, one bathroom ordeal, and hardly furnished. The best she could afford for having just graduated college and getting back on her feet after years of student debt. She fumbled with her key and unlocked the door, stepping inside out of the cold weather. She set her food down on the counter, before removing her shoes and her coat. She switched on the television, checking out the news channels first, before she turned on a movie to watch as she ate her food. She grabbed a fork and her food and took a seat in tfront of the TV on the couch, and began to eat.

... And who will be her l o v e r?

☆ [[ROBERT RAYMOND aka STAR FLASH]]☆
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

"Save us, Star Flash!"

He swore it was some kind of mantra. With every exhale, people screamed for him and he came running, never failing to do his duty. And what was his duty? Well, he was a superhero. His duty was to the people of the city and sometimes larger spans of land depending on who needed his help and for what. For whatever reason he'd been granted these gifts and selflessly he used them, never once thinking of himself. And why should he? Wasn't it right to give, never seeking something in return? All he ever asked was that people remembered who had helped them and paid it forward in some way.

When his hero name was not being called, he went by Robert. It was an ordinary name for an ordinary guy--at least he was supposed to be ordinary. Truth was, as a civilian he was the most terribly awkward person you could ever meet. He had to constantly be careful how he handled things because he was too strong for his own good and could break or hurt things and people all too easily. He'd tried the Clark Kent method of wearing glasses as part of his disguise but he kept breaking the fragile frames when handling them. Instead he wore sunglasses that were built by himself with reinforced steel and other mechanical wonders to make holding them easier to hide his unusual eyes. To other people he looked like a dork with homemade sunglasses that had been built from car parts.

Finally finished taking care of a major robbery case and handing over the criminals to the police, he ducked in to the darkness of an alley where his car was parked and pulled on a collared shirt and slacks to hide the black and gold uniform he'd change out of at home. Fingers ran through his hair and tousled it to get rid of that pristine 'hero' look and he drove away, glancing at the car's clock. 8 o'clock.

He wondered if he'd see something on his porch again. For a while someone had been leaving him meals on his doorstep. He was eternally grateful, for cooking for one person after a fight was always hard, but he wished he knew just why this person chose him. He also wished he knew who it was so he could at least give them money to make up for it.

Getting home, sure enough there was a bag on his doorstep and he gingerly picked it up, the smell of take out wafting free. He smiled softly. Thank you, whoever you are. He thought to himself, looking around in the vain hope he might catch someone peeking from a window or doorway before he went inside, careful not to slam the door like he tended to do.

An annoyed expression appeared on Victoria's face when she realized the movie she had picked to watch was a terrible one and she struggled to find something else. She settled, once again, for the nightly news reports. There wasn't anything new. Just a couple of world reports, weather, and Star Flash making the main headlines again. She smiled a little to herself.

"Good job.. Again.." She thought to herself as she picked around at her food, now full and now unsure of what to do with herself. Normally, she would be doing homework this time of night. But there was nothing anymore, now that she was finished with school. Most girls her age would be out drinking at almost nine p.m. on a weekend. But she preferred her quiet life. Minus the fact that she was lonely. Really lonely. "Perhaps I should introduce myself.." she said out loud to herself.

She stood up from her sofa, and put the rest of her food in the fridge to eat for later. "Perhaps not tonight.." She finally concluded, once again, coming to the idea that she'd be a nuisance to him. She sighed softly to herself, before taking a seat back on her sofa and resting her head on one of the pillows and she stayed like that until she fell asleep.

Victoria awoke again around midnight to a gentle rattling at her front door. "Wha... what the f-" she cut herself off, just as the door knob twisted. Her heart skipped a beat, realizing she had no time to move or hide. Frozen with fear, she watched as the man stepped inside of her front door, and look directly at her. The only light came from the occasional flashes on the TV and even then, she couldn't make out his facial features. He stepped towards her, and immediately, she scurried out of her seat and had just enough time to let out a scream before he put a hand around her throat and the other over her mouth, cutting her off short. "Don't start, girl. You'll regret it."

Standing at the kitchen counter, Robert ate his gifted food gratefully, managing to finish everything off within a half hour. He needed all the energy he could get and the carbs were great for when he had to fight a particularly difficult foe. With everything, including the fortune cookie, gone he sorted out what could be recycled and what was trash and finally went upstairs to shower and put up his uniform for the night. Y'know, provided no one needed his help again tonight.

Washing the grime and little bit of blood from his toned body his mind wandered. He had a stack of mail sitting by the front door that belonged to the girl in the other half of the duplex. It was late, though, and she probably wasn't even home. Had her car been in the lot? He hadn't noticed.

What he knew of her she was nice enough. He never heard anything from her half of the house except maybe the dull sound of a television if she was watching the news, which was always loud, or something engaging. Numerous times he had meant to send her apology notes for his own noise, as he was constantly breaking furniture and knocking down cabinets or pulling doors off hinges. Robert cringed at what she must think of him. It had surprised him that she hadn't called the landlord on him. The previous tenants had but Robert was never evicted because he always paid out of pocket for any repairs and paid his rent on time.

Getting out the shower he dried off and pulled on an old cotton shirt and pajama bottoms, deciding to try and read the rest of his waking minutes when he heard something strange from next door. His brow furrowed and he listened hard, concentrating enough to hear a man's voice as though he were standing in the room. The scream before it made him wince and cover his ears before he felt ice flood his veins.

Was she alright? Robert looked to the wardrobe that held his costume. Should he take the time to change? What would be more strange, a neighbor coming to help or the infamous Star Flash?

Deciding to risk it he went as he was, grabbing a blunt object to use in case, and exited his own home to go around to the other door which was still open, the TV lighting up the otherwise dark room. There was a man holding his neighbor by the throat with the other hand clamped around her mouth. This made him dreadfully upset which caused his golden star-shaped irises to light up like an LED display.

"Hey!" he pointed a finger at the man. "Let her go, now!"

My name is Star Flash and I'll put you out in a flash and make you see the stars! His cheesy phrase rang through his head, making him groan inwardly. There was no time for that now, someone was in trouble.

Victoria stayed absolutely still, as the man, clad in all black clothes with his hood over his head, spoke to her in a hushed whisper. "I didn't come here to hurt you, girl. I'm here for valuables. Understand?" Her heart raced as she nodded her head, telling him that she understood. Tears streamed down her face, and she sobbed softly, however her cries were muffled by his hand over her mouth.

Her eyes caught sight of another figure stepping inside of her home through the opened door, and it didn't take her long to realize that it was her neighbor, who, in fact, was exceptionally poor at hiding his identity. At the sound of Star Flash's stern voice, the shady man quickly pulled Victoria into a choke hold and held up a tiny little switch blade, unphased by his glowing eyes. He held his ground, and soon retaliated with his threat.

"I don't want to hurt her, but if you make any sudden movements, I will," the man said in response, in an equally stern voice, "And it would be such a shame, too. Because she is quite pretty.." He cooed into her ear, which made her cringe and whimper.

Victoria struggled against the male, trying to wriggle herself out of his grasp, but he only held on tighter, obviously far stronger than she was. She lifted her hands and dug her fingernails into his arm that was wrapped around her neck, causing him to grunt softly. "Stupid b****," he gave her a small cut across her cheek with the short blade and she whimpered.

... And who will be her l o v e r?

"You don't have to hurt her. We can settle this rationally." Robert held up his hands at the threat of hurting the young woman, knowing going too fast would give away that something wasn't quite right about this good samaritan. All bets were off when she dug her nails in and he cut her with the knife. The sight of blood brought back too many memories of pain he saw from victims of people he helped put away. Their screams and cries and pleas echoed in his ears, coupled with the look of fear and pain on her face right before him, and he no longer cared what this man knew or thought he knew.

Robert lunged forward and grabbed the hand of the man that held the blade, squeezing enough to break bone until the knife dropped away. He then wrenched the entire arm back which popped it from the shoulder socket with a sickening sound. With his free hand he freed the woman from the robber's grasp and shoved her gently to put some distance between them so she couldn't become a casualty.

"Call the cops and tell them book it," he ordered her, turning his attention to the man he still was holding by a very injured arm. "As for you, my friend..." Robert let go of his arm and grabbed the man by the neck as he had her, careful not to crush his windpipe as he lifted him at least two feet off the ground. "I don't know what situation you're in that caused you to need this poor lady's money and goods, but it ends tonight. You'll get help where you're going, I assure you."
