Selah had returned home to To'ul Mountain from the strange happenings at Venus' Temple without much thought about what had happened. Honestly she tried to forget all the horrible and bizarre things she'd seen that day. The only reminder was the kitten that Luminita had given her, which she'd named Nava. As the wee Abyssinian grew, so swelled Selah's belly.

How odd.

Her parents seemed oddly understanding of the whole thing, as if randomly turning up pregnant were a normal and expected outcome of going to Venus' Temple. She made a mental note not to return. Still, there were some...actions that usually happened before one became pregnant, right?

One day it came to her. "OH!" she exclaimed, startling Nava, who had been batting at her braid. Now she remembered. There had been a handsome faun male...she couldn't remember the details precisely, but they must have made a night of it. Not surprising--Selah was sort of the find-what-you-want-and-take-it type. Usually males were agreeable to that sort of thing, which helped. Well, if the babies looked anything like him when they arrived, then she'd know.

The moons passed and Selah delivered a healthy pair of twins. A boy and a girl, whom she christened Amir and Tirzah. They looked more like her than anything else, as far as she could tell, but Amir had striking blue eyes that reminded her of a distant night. Definitely his father's. What had been his name? Oh well.

Deciding that what's-his-name ought to know he'd successfully sired two children, Selah bundled Amir and Tirzah up and affixed them to her back using a harness she and Papa had built together. Papa was thrilled to be a grandfather. Father, on the other hand, seemed rather embarrassed that his only daughter should be old enough for such things. Selah packed a lunch and started the trek for the Tree. Most Fauns lived there, right? The only reason Papa didn't is because he liked the solitary life....the thought made her giggle.

About halfway to the Tree she remembered that they didn't take kindly to outsiders. At least, that's what she'd heard around the Isle. Being half-faun herself, she should be welcomed, but it wasn't exactly like she looked like a faun. At all. She wondered if she could send for him somehow without going inside. That would be respectful, right? Too bad she couldn't remember his name. Ah, well. She'd think of something.

Selah stopped to eat and nurse the children a respectable distance from the enormous Tree. She sat cross-legged on the grass, enjoying the sunshine and the cool breeze. Now was the time to think of a way to send for him. At least she knew what he looked like--slicked-back black hair, green tattoos all over, bright blue eyes. That is, if he even lived here.

Haku Jo had returned from Venus's Temple in a huff. He had had a terrible night. Between the giant dodo and the dieties fighting, he was not looking forward to another event at the Love Goddess's abode. Even his poor cactus had been in danger. He shuddered at the mere thought of his precious baby getting injured.

The only good thing that had happened, if you called sudden and unavoidable lust a good thing, was that he had somehow lost his virgnity to another winged beast. What was with all the birds, he briefly wondered. At least this one had vaguely resembled a plant. Or had she been plant colored? The details were still fuzzy.

Shaking himself out of his revelry, he turned back to his one true passion. Plants. He had found another yet variety that was beautiful and brightly colored. Perfect for his little garden. Not giving the night at Temple another thought, he returned to his little notebook and continued his cataloging.

Selah heard some rustling around nearby. Curious, she packed up her babies and went to investigate. Maybe her explorer's nature overrode her maternal fear for her children's safety, or maybe that just hadn't kicked in yet. Either way, she peeked around through the bushes until she found the source of the noise: a familiar figure, crouched down with a little notebook and inspecting a plant. Just the Faun she'd been looking for! What luck!

"Hello!" she said cheerfully, giving a little wave. "I'm so glad to see you here!" This definitely made the task of finding him much easier. "I was hoping not to have to get too close to the Tree." She hoped he recognized and remembered her. But just incase: "I'm Selah--we met at Venus' Temple, remember?" She gave a smile. Good to know he was just as handsome as she remembered. Sometimes in the heat of the moment, memory wasn't cataloging everything as it was in reality. Sometimes such romantic encounters put a bit of a filter on everything...

"I came to see you," she said. "There's something I'd like to show you."

Haku was in the middle of drawing a particularly difficult part of his sketch when the angel approached him. Even though he should be carefully watching his surroundings, he wasn't. He was too asorbed in getting the angle of the piston exactly right.

In fact, it wasn't until the stranger spoke that he even noticed her at all. Which, of course, nearly gave him a heart attack and caused his hand to swerve wildly on his carefully planned drawing. And ruining an hour's worth of work.

Sighing as she prattled on, something about Venus's Temple and knowing one another and blah blah blah, he looked sadly at his marred drawing. It would take him another hour to make an exact copy. What on earth was with his luck here lately?

Belatedly(and barely), he remembered the elders warning about strangers and danger. And the fact that she had stopped talking and was obviously waiting for him to respond. He figured he would have to actually talk to said stranger since simply running out of fear was not in his nature. Besides, she said she had need to "show" him something.

Without glancing up from his current project, he simply nodded and asked her what required his vision.

Selah jumped a bit when he did, although in a far less exaggerated manner. "Oh dear, I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed. She'd thought he'd heard her approach. She wasn't that sneaky, was she? Although Papa would be proud of her if she was. Or perhaps the male had just been deep in concentration and not attended to her. Maybe he was just jumpy.

But now she hesitated before pulling the twins off her back. If he was indeed an easily-alarmed pae, did she really just want to be like "Look! Kids!"? He might do something unexpected. "Well," she began, "This might come as a bit of a shock," she warned, "But there were some, er, lasting effects from the night at the Temple."

Selah slowly took the "baby backpack" off and held the twins in front of her, arms around them somewhat protectively. "This is Amir and Tirzah," she said with a warm smile. "They are sweet and lovely." She kissed their heads. Looking back up at Haku Jo, she added, "Of course I don't expect anything from you. You're always welcome to come visit, obviously, but I brought them here today because I thought you ought to know, is all. When they're a bit older, perhaps they can come visit you periodically, should you wish." She smiled a bit and watched him closely for a reaction.

Haku nodded as she spoke. He wasn't really paying attention. Eyes still on the flower, he replied to her presentation with simple "uh huh" and "That's nice" and even "Sure. I'd love to have the babies when they get older".

Wait. WHAT?! He realized what he had just agreed to and finally turned to give the newcomer a glance. Ah! It was the plant girl from the party. And those were his... Holy cow, he had kids...

He couldn't stop himself from staring dumbfoundedly at the bundles of joy she now held out. "Kids.... Mine.... This is wonderful news...." He muttered, wondering what in the name of Hades you actually fed a small child. However, since he had somehow accomplished the act of reproduction, it was only fair he took part in their raising. He told her as much, almost word for word.
