Ryuu does not possess many abilities. Seducing humans, eating the dead, and preying on blood are the only abilities he has been gifted with, but he does not tend to use them very often. He cannot even be bothered to seduce because it is "too much of a drag."
Ryuu is a very laid back, lenient type of person. The only time he is ever even close to outgoing is when he drinks, which he does casually in the confines of his own home. He treats everything like a waste of time unless it is his job, and has commitment issues so he is terrible with any type of relationship. For that reason, he is almost always holed up in his dorm or the apartment he calls 'home' reading and chain-smoking away as he relaxes.
Ryuu grew up in the east side of Tokyo, where the streets were busy, and the crime rate was high. He lived in a small apartment with his four siblings and single mother until he turned sixteen. It was then that his entire family was attacked by a pack of Ghouls that tore everyone that he loved to shreds, and feasted upon them. Cruel as it may be, one of them decided it would be fantastic to turn Ryuu himself into a Ghoul as he cowered in fear from the creatures attacking. After being turned, Ryuu made a living off the streets; killing for money for large corporations as a mercenary until he turned eighteen. Miserable and self-hating, the boy decided to do something else with his life rather than living in the shadows and carrying out murders for evil corporations. He had always enjoyed literature, especially English, so he moved to England to study it as a student abroad. He left behind his despicable life for what he hoped would be better, and soon mastered his craft. After publishing several successful novels, he may as well have been washed up by the time he turned twenty-six. With a master's degree and no more money coming in from his self-proclaimed 'sh*tty' books, he decided to take up a job at Ashhaven Academy as the new English Literature professor.
