Kelebek was always a little tenuous about taking Pearl anywhere near the Palace. Too many people that might recognize her, recognize her past...
But that was behind her! Her children were grown! Hell, her grandchildren were grown. She hadn't even seen Turin in seasons. And besides. This child was her own. A gift from the Waters! There was no reason for any kind of controversy. And Pearl hated being cooped up at home. So today they were going for a swim, hopefully a long enough one that Pearl would get tired and take a nap this afternoon.
"Stay close, my love," Kelebek said to her daughter. "I don't want you to get lost! It's so busy around the Palace." Pearl rolled her eyes. Mama worried too much. But she felt a little better about it because Mama worried about everything, not just her. "C'mon!" she cried, darting ahead. She knew Mama would follow her just as fast. She pretended to be old and slow, but she was quick as the current when she felt like it.
There was so much to see and do around here! Last time they were out she'd "accidentally" gotten into the market and that had been such fun. She'd never seen so many bits and baubles! Mama liked baubles. She had a shelf full of them at home. Pearl had thought that she never wanted to leave the Pond, but she adored the open ocean. She felt so free! With a smirk on her face she began to purposefully swim toward the market, but something caught her attention. It was almost like a memory. She stopped dead in her bubbles and looked around.
"Ohmigosh!" She exclaimed, and zipped over to another child about her age. "Autumn!!" She barreled into the orange-skinned boy, hugging him forcefully and making them both do a flip and a half in the water.

Autumn had just minutes prior decided that he really, really, really wanted to go for a swim around the halls. Without asking for permission, mind you; whyever would he want to do that? It's not like he lived here (except he did) or had any family (discounting his new grandparents, father, and siblings) to worry over his absence.
It was just a little absence anyways.
He'd come home when he got bored.
And it wasn't really all that long before such boredom began to set in, a certain disinterest for what had seemed so appealing not five minutes prior now his dominant emotion Meh... Maybe he should go back after all...? Glancing back, he could swear he saw somenaiad swimming after him - perhaps da---
Thoughts stopping at the sound of a familiar voice, he hadn't the time to look over before his vision was covered by neutral shades. "Pearl?!" he exclaimed back as they did a sort of messy barrel roll from the impact.
"No way! That you?! Really?!" Given the head start the little sprite had on him, Hjortur managed to catch up with the boy just as he appeared to find an... old...?... friend? Interesting. Perhaps they knew each other from wherever Autumn had come from. Slowing down, he looked to the (absolutely gorgeous) female fretting over the pair of them.
Had he seen her before...?
She certainly seemed familiar enough, but even as one who was infamous around the court, he couldn't place it. Must not be that important. Putting on his most devilishly attractive smile, he waved lightly at the fair maiden.

"Really me!" Pearl exclaimed, beginning to giggle like a madwoman. She thought she'd never see any of them again! Like, ever! "I can't believe you're here! Did you find a Mama too? Look, mine's all pink and beautiful!" She pointed backwards toward Mama, who was undoubtedly close by and fidgety. Strangers made her nervous. But Pearl didn't care, because Autumn wasn't a stranger at all! He was her friend! Almost like her brother!Kelebek was very curious to know how Pearl knew this other little one. They did bear a certain similarity to each other, with the antennae and the little semi-transparent wings. She wanted to ask, but couldn't find a place to interject because they were both talking so fast, and clearly having a special moment that she didn't want to interrupt. So she sort of held up a finger, then put it down, and then up again, and then touched her chin, and then up again, and sighed and ran a hand through her hair. She'd just wait, then.
Another adult caught her attention with a wave. He seemed somewhat familiar, but given how little she came to Court he could be anyone. He could be the Queen's uncle and she probably wouldn't know. The Queen didn't have an uncle, right? He had an odd smile on his face. Kelebek nervously gave a return smile of her own and waggled her fingers in an awkward wave. Perhaps he was the parent of Pearl's friend. Well, since she clearly wasn't getting answers from her daughter...
She floated over to the male. "Um, hi...I'm Kelebek." Not that she really needed an introduction. Everyone knew her scandal. "Pearl is my daughter...are you the boy's father?" she asked. She was looking everywhere except at him. It had been a long time since she interacted with anyone not related to her, she realized.

How cool was this? Never ever ever ever in Portia's name would he ever have thought he'd see one of his friends again! This might just be the bestest day absolutely ever! "A mama?" He paused, looking over to Kalebek (with Hjortur) for a moment, then back. "Woah! Your mama is pretty." He shook his head at her question. "Nope! I found a daddy. He's silly looking, but I like him anyways." He grinned before looking back to point. "He's talking to your mama over there. Maybe they can be friends like us!"Well, that was surprising: a naiad in the palace who didn't know of him. It was almost refreshing, even. Would me more refreshing if she would look at him, but he supposed he couldn't complain at the prospect of another woman's company, if only for a few minutes due to their children.
"I am Hjortur, it is a pleasure meeting you, Kelebek." That name really did seem quite familiar after all... Oh well, no use thinking to hard on it. "Is she? The boy, Autumn, is one of mine. Just appeared one day it seems. Funny how they appear to know each other already; I thought I knew of all his friends."

Pearl gasped. "That would be the best ever!! Then we could see each other like, all the time! Mama needs more friends, anyway. The only people who come to visit her are family. I'm still learning all their names, and they all look just the same anyway." She paused and watched Mama talk with Autumn's Daddy. "What's he like? Is he wonderful?" Her Mama was wonderful. Nothing could compare with Portia, but Mama was warm and comforting in ways Portia had never been. Mama loved her.Kelebek coughed a bit as she realized that Pearl...didn't really have any friends. They lived so far from the Palace area, and the girls weren't really interested in playing with the little girl. A blush rose to her cheeks. She felt awful for forcing the playful Pearl to live her reclusive lifestyle. "Um, yes." She laughed nervously and ran a hand through her hair, causing it to float in front of her face, and then no matter how much she moved it, it wouldn't stay out of her field of vision.
Okay, Kelebek, get it together. Just play it cool like nothing horrible is happening. Pretend you're not horribly awkward.
"P-Pearl just appeared one day as well. She's, well, she's my little gift." She chuckled a bit. "I am curious how they know each other, though," she agreed, looking back toward the excitedly chattering pair.

At Pearl's gasp, Autumn gasped in turn. "That would be super amazing! Then we could play all the time!" He laughed, glancing at the adults. Yes... They needed to make them friends so Pearl and he could continue to be the bestest of friends. "He's silly. I've got 3 sisters and a brother and a grammy and grampy. Two of them live waaaaaay up there through..." he made a gesture pointing up towards the surface, then shrugged, "...with their mamma. I dunno where though; someplace fancy I think. They look kinda funny, but that's okay."
"He's nice and lets me play a lot." he grinned; that was the best part about having Hjortur as a dad. "He also plays super good music! You'd love it if you heard it; everyone does~!"
"What's your family like?"Hjortur couldn't help but think it was kind of cute how Kelebek fretted over that one strand of hair and thank the spirits that grumpy-ol' Aeroniel wasn't around to ruin the moment. Not that he could really think too poorly at her, given all she'd done for him... She was still a killjoy though.
Hjortur paused, glancing at the pair of tadpoles before shrugging. "Perhaps from before they came to us? They do have a similar appearance after all." And appearance that was certainly not pure naiad in nature. Aquatic, yes; hybrid, likely. "Autumn has yet to tell me much of himself - where he came from and the like. Cannot be bothered to do so, apparently. Has Pearl spoken to you about anything of the sort?"

"Oh, well Mama is wonderful," she gushed immediately. "She is warm and soft and cuddles with me and reads to me! And we have a whole big family! Most of them are grown-ups, though. There's Pax and Xoana, they visit the most often. An' there's their dad Anxo, he's around a lot too. Mama says Anxo has a brother but we never see him? And there's Toli and Zo-Zo and Moana! I forget how they're related..." she touched her chin and looked deep in thought for a moment. "Your family sounds like fun!" she exclaimed. Funny looking family? That sounded exciting!Kelebek had never given much thought to where Pearl had come from. She'd always assumed that she'd sprung fully-formed from that little tadpole. Suddenly it seemed very foolish, and she blushed. Luckily it wasn't too noticeable given her coloring. "Um, no..." she confessed. "To be honest, I haven't really asked..." Had she been selfish with her new daughter? She bit her lip.
