Appearance
Tall and broad at 6'5" Silas is a bit of a bear. Gruff like one, too. Piercingly blue eyes stare out from behind slightly-too-long wavy black hair, and a handsome sun-tanned face. His thick, but trimmed, beard only adds to his bear-like appearance, especially with his habit of sitting quietly in a room, as if brooding, and watching those about him without a word. It's rare to see him smile, or even laugh for that matter. When he does it tends to be startled out of him.
About
To most people he initially comes off as quite serious, even brooding, due to the fact that he often has very little to say. He finds it a bit difficult to ever completely relax or let his guard down around others, and tends to take things too seriously. Very obscure jokes might go over his head but, surprisingly, he does have a sense of humor -- though it's dry and often a bit sarcastic, people often don't tend to expect it.
Despite this gruff appearance and personality, however, Silas does have a more sensitive side and can often be counted upon to help should someone really need it. On the other hand, he prefers to do things for himself and tends to turn down the help of others -- and has a very hard time asking for it even if he's truly in need of it. Should he happen to accept the help of anyone, though, Silas will insist on paying them back in some way and is adamant about this as he doesn't feel comfortable accepting charity.
History and Family
Not a lot is known about Silas' history. He lives near the capital, but has no family native to that particular area and seems to have simply arrived one day at the age of 27 with a large hound in tow. He stayed at an inn, living there for about a month while he worked from dawn to dusk every day building his own house on the outskirts of the city. In that entire time, he kept mostly to himself, and began to earn a reputation as being a bit of an oddity, though a harmless one.
He has lived near Arkenvale for about 5 years, with his curiously energetic Hound, Teuvel, constantly at his side.

It will take a LOT to get Silas to ever talk much about himself, let alone his past, however....
He actually comes from a family with two older brothers. Silas is the baby -- a bit hard to picture, isn't it? His family, however, is very strict and traditional and they come from a rather small, close-knit, village near the forest. Things were almost picturesque but, even as a boy, Silas had always been a bit more serious and observant. He'd tried, at first, to hide his differences but the older he got, the harder that became until, one day, his eldest brother caught him with another man. It had been innocent -- a simple kiss shared in the orchard, where they'd thought they were alone.
After that, things with his family became ugly and Silas, distraught, and furious, finally left them behind.
