i myself am cherokee so i can understand that thank you for your respect for my culture.
What language would you suggest then?
Hey no problem. I'll be honest I think Native language and culture is ******** beautiful and I'd love to incorporate it (and I certainly don't mean to speak over you) but I just don't feel like it's the right thing to do in this scenario (Gaia can't do it justice lmao).
That being said, if you want your character to have a Native background, I think that would be pretty awesome. It's entirely up to you of course though.
How about Latin or German?

I was thinking about it to be honest. And I believe you're right, it was just a passing idea. smile I thank you for your honesty.
The German word for new is Neu.... lol.. The Latin word is Novus.

If I'm on honest, I like the Latin one better.
Np man; This stuff is important.
Hmm... I feel like Latin might not work. It wouldn't catch on in casual conversation; but they might use something like that for a scientific classification of the mutations. So, we're going to need a more casual yet politically correct term for 'changeling' that would get used in like, news broadcasts and such.
I'm thinking maybe the more colloquial term could be 'varians', based on the different forms that occur. Perhaps the scientists and doctors that first encountered cases of this were optimistic about it and tried to coin a term that would still count them as humans, or variations of such.
Naturally it wouldn't take long for people to get angry and create derogatory terms to distance themselves from it (did you ever hear about the first instance of cybernetic hate crime? It happened back in 2012, and cybernetics are barely a thing now), but most hateful people aren't very creative. Slurs would probably be fairly one-track minded, like 'freak', 'mutant', etc. If you wanted something a little more universe-specific, perhaps they might opt for calling them 'devians'.

Linguistics wise, the scientists would call them something like Homo Sapien Novus, and then a more common-tongue variant would come out later for the leyman's term, and then slang words. So maybe something like Nova? A Nova, the Novas. Or, as the humans call them, mutants/freaks.

Well along with the passage you actually pasted here for us to read...
It would seem like Varians might be a good word for it. Perhaps those 'born' with the extreme mutatations could be called Novus. So the Varian children are called Novus, while the adults, those who survived and their DNA mutated due to the radiation can be called Varians.
I imagine giving birth to a "Novus" or a "varian" would be very strenous, and cause death to the mother 9 times out of 10 (I'm talking about extreme mutations, not children with simple extra toes or eyes). So there would be a lot of 'hate' directed towards these children.
From what I was reading, the way I understand it, it would take a very very good reason for the Changelings to start a war, other than some persuasive mystery dude.
Maybe we should have there be an act of violence against a Novus and that causes more hostility in the Varians, and the catalyst that breaks the camels back is the persuasive mystery man...
(this is all written assuming you like this idea, I'm eating chocolate and it's inspiring LOL.

Funnily enough I was going to suggest we change who incited the war as given the way the main plot is constructed, the traveller wouldn't have the time to go to such lengths to get what they want. I'm thinking for the sake of the plot it would make more sense if this war is already established when the traveller comes to the room. They're going to be the Machiavellian type (because honestly who wouldn't be if they were desperate to escape and survive), so they'll most likely just appeal to the more powerful group, in this case being the varians.
That will mean that your role, Hope, will basically become that of the leader, and mine will most likely become that of the first follower (but perhaps my character has doubts about the motives of the movement and wonders if it is truly the right thing? Perhaps the traveller gets treated in a way that makes my character take pity on him and help, with the aid of humans? We'll see).
I'm kinda only half-sold on the Nova/Novus term tbh. Like, yes absolutely the scientists would use that terminology, but I don't know about the term Nova for street slang. Like, on one hand I like the idea of it for labelling children of varians, but on the other hand, I feel like having two different terms for one group might become confusing for the guests. Like, we want to keep it a simple 'us vs. them' sort of thing, not an 'us vs. them and them and...' thing. I feel like varians would be a solid term for use among humans as well as the varians themselves. In and of itself, it is a kind of slang for 'variation of humans', so I feel like it would catch on in that regard.
The more I think about what kind of negative term would be used though, the more I'm realising that the people that would use it are probably the ignorant, blind hatred type. They wouldn't give a damn about what varians are called, they'd just want to get rid of them. It strikes me as similar to the kind of backlash transgender people are facing at the moment from people who have never actually encountered a trans person - the kind of people who would rather just be spoon fed whatever the mainstream media tells them, than form their own opinions.
These kinds of bigoted people are simple, and so are their words; they would focus on the defining thing about varians - mutations - and would probably resort to calling them mutants, or because most of these kinds of people are monosyllabic troglodytes, they'd probably dumb it down to 'muts', but more likely (because of the derogatory nature of calling someone an ill-bred dog), 'mutts'.
I imagine the tensions between these people and the varians would have exploded into pogroms at some point, and that would have been a pretty decent trigger for war.

OKAY so we are entering the ball with the varians and humans already at war?
OKAY so we are entering the ball with the varians and humans already at war?
...how would the traveller affect us?
-stares-
TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT SIR!!!!! LOL
To be fair I didn't want to change that aspect, but the main plot needs to be kept simple and it wouldn't be fair to make the call to change everything else to fit our room.
Yeah, the varians and humans will have been a few months into their war when the traveller appears. The traveller lurks around a bit, learns who has the resources to help them get what they need, and goes straight to see their leader. I'm gonna say that maybe the traveller gets knocked back because they look too much like a human or a changeling that tries to fit in with humans, and so they are forced to flee or be killed/enslaved/whatever, and run into a group of humans, who they then camp with for a night.
Maybe the first follower feels bad about how the war is going, doesn't like the violent turn it's taking, and slips out to find the traveller to help them, maybe with the desire to travel with them to another dimension. Maybe they get captured by the humans (because they're one of the higher ranking ones, they might be worth something), and the traveller is the one to point out that both groups are exactly like each other and that if they just sat down with one another and talked they might realise they're not some alien species. Maybe the first follower can work with the humans to create a tenuous peace treaty, so the war can end.
This could be when the whole plot of the human and the changeling getting along can come in. Maybe the leader of the humans and the first follower were friends before the mutations began, and they recognise them under all the mutations. It would be enough to get them to talk to each other.
Anyway yeah, it's not 100% backflipping on the plot we have thus far, we just needed to alter it to work with the main plot.

kay so heres the break down I have so far of what you are telling me lemme see if I have it all 100% correct so I can work on a fabulous intro for you.
- A group of evil anarchists destroy the world via a simultaneous attack on all the nuclear plants/setting off nuclear bombs
- Few survive. Those who survive most die off from radiation sickness. Those who are immune to it are fine. However some form of radiation immunity comes with mutations.
- The mutants, AKA Varians, break off into their own clans and cultures, as the humans are cruel and discriminate against them.
- Hostility grows, and for some reason (I'm still not clear on the reason why the war started) war breaks out.
- My character, the leader of the Varians. Trouble is the first follower. Kitty is the leader of the humans.
- Stranger (aka ball mule) comes in needing something and visits my character.
- my character is full of angst and hatred and he looks too human so she attacks him and exiles him and he escapes with his life with the promise that if he returns she will keep him for her nummy human snack.
- first follower gets all feelsy and wants peace and breaks away to go to the humans to try and help follower/realizes that they were once friends.
- Your character acts like an envoy and tries to get a peace treaty going between my character and Kitty's
- Yay for teamwork to... tbh I have no idea how the main storyline is to be resolved because uuuhmmm.... I've read it but I've forgotten and I need to go reread it lol.

yeah p much like that.
the war would have been a direct result of racial tensions, starting out as just general tenseness around varians (because the humans would probably just resent them for reminding them of the lives they lost in the nuclear crisis - everyone needs a scapegoat right?), then eventually outward displays of anger and contempt, and eventually physical violence, and this is the point where the pot boils over, and this sparks a riot or the varians essentially going 'ok you know what? ******** this!', etc. and when one of them decides to take charge and band them together, all of a sudden holy s**t there's a force to be reckoned with (v much a la 1984 style 'If there is hope,' wrote Winston, 'it lies in the proles.' aka the proletariat are actually a scary force when pissed but are also very hard to band together)
if you can think of a better motivation for your character to hate humans then by all means, it's up to you. as long as they have enough of a dislike for varians that don't look 'different enough', then that's all g.
i'm going to say there are crystals that would work to power the traveller's device, but perhaps they're only found in the cave(?) where the varian leader set up base, so they /have/ to go back and resolve things between the leaders of both factions so the traveller can go home. it would be enough of a motivation for Quynn to desperately try to get them to work together, and he's got enough charm and quick wit that he could probably get it to work.

Hey guys. We've hit the due date, and I've submitted the room plot. Let me know if you're happy with it, and if you want anything changed please get back to me asap.
vvv Plot under the cut vvv
"When you think about nuclear fallout, what springs to mind? Wastelands of what-once-was, death and decay, perhaps...? We thought much the same; We never in our wildest dreams expected something to be created from the destruction. And yet here we are, watching the rise of an entirely new type of human borne from dormant mutations activated by the radiation - we called them ‘Varians’.
The varians survived and thrived in this newly ravaged world. Each varian was unique, some appearing no different to regular humans aside from the occasional set of horns or sharp teeth, others growing extra sets of arms, wings capable of flight (and some that were not) - even beaks, gills and entirely new bodies! The list of oddities was endless, but one thing became clear, varians had adapted to this new world, humans had not.
Many of the regular humans grew fearful of the varians and their new capabilities… or perhaps jealous. What started out as intrigue and hope for the future soon turned to fear… and eventually hatred. It soon became clear varians and humans weren't going to get along.
Humans persecuted the varians, called them 'freaks', ‘mutants’ or ‘mutts’. It didn’t take long for the tensions between humans and varians to explode into pogroms, and in the aftermath of the brutality, a varian emerged to unite their people - the army of the downtrodden - and declared war on the humans.
Once united, the varians proved to be an unstoppable force. Those that chose to fight were wiped out in a week, the rest of us fled into hiding. It is here in the depths of the dying forests that we reside now, waiting for opportunities to strike back, to reclaim the livelihoods taken from us by the varians. Whether we will actually succeed in the face of such an impressive enemy however, remains to be seen.."
– – –
Day 1: There is a meeting consisting of the varian leaders of different areas. It becomes apparent that many of the varians aren't happy with how the war is going, and one of the attendees even suggests entering negotiations to end the war. The leader brushes off these concerns in a harsh manner, and the meeting ends with many of the attendees feeling disillusioned. The second-in-command feels sympathetic to the desire to end the war as they were originally able to remain friends with a human post-mutation, but were eventually torn apart by the warring sides. The second-in-command, seeing that the overwhelming majority of the varians don't want the war to continue, resolves to leave and find the humans to start negotiating for peace - or die trying.
Day 2: The second-in-command stumbles across the human leader's camp around morning the next day, and is immediately met with hostility by one of the humans. They are thrown in a holding cage and subject to general hostilities from the rest of the camp. The human leader returns from a raid to discover that their old friend is smack bang in the middle of their camp. Talks ensue and they both realise that there is a potential end to the war on the horizon... Their only obstacle being the varian leader and a few radicals.
Day 3: A portal opens in the forest a few steps from the human camp and a figure falls out, gaining the attention of everyone in the camp. They begin describing a kind of crystal, and this sparks the resident varian's memory; they mention having seen that exact kind of crystal in the caves the varian leader calls home, and it becomes clear that there is only one course of action left to them - a final stand at the varian leader's cave. The traveller offers to help with diplomacy provided they can have free access to the crystals, and everyone agrees.
The humans confront the varian leader with the aid of the second-in-command. The human leader makes it clear they want peace, and the rest of the varians hesitate only slightly before lowering their guard. It becomes clear that only the varian leader really opposes the desire for peace, and they forced to flee with a select few radicals. The traveller gets their crystals, fixes their device and says their farewells while the rest of the humans and varians enter negotiations for a treaty to draw new borders and for their people so they can live in peace.

AHAHAHA okay because I'm an a*****e who can't get their s**t together, I forgot that I talked with one of the hosts of another room about swapping places (so that Quynn would enter their room much later in the ball because it would work much better for their plot) and I said that was totally fine and forgot to re-write our plot to accomodate for that.
THIS is the final plot, just so you're all aware. It's not hugely different tbh, but yeah. I will edit it a little once I have the names of your characters to include those as well, but otherwise this is how it'll go for us.

Day 1: There is a meeting consisting of the varian leaders of different areas. It becomes apparent that many of the varians aren't happy with how the war is going, and one of the attendees even suggests entering negotiations to end the war. The leader, Awiagina, brushes off these concerns in a harsh manner, and the meeting ends with many of the attendees feeling disillusioned.
The second-in-command - Elias - resolves to leave and find the humans to start negotiating for peace. At this moment, a rift opens up, and a very waterlogged traveller is thrown out. Elias and the traveller talk for a moment and then set out together to find the human settlement. Night falls before they come across a crystal cave. They stumble across the human's camp in the cave, and are immediately met with hostility - Quynn being mistaken for a varian as well.
The human leader returns from a raid to discover that their old childhood friend is imprisoned smack bang in the middle of their camp. Thanks to Quynn's quick wit, Elias and Quynn are freed. Quynn realises that the crystals in the cave were once the kind that his people used. Since contaminated by the nuclear crisis, he realised they would most likely burn out after one use. He decides it is better than nothing, and fits his device with these new crystals, bids the varian and the human good luck and farewell, and is gone.
Day 2:After Elias and the human leader have taken a moment to catch up on each other's lives, they begin talks about the war. It becomes clear that there is only one course of action left to them; Awiagina had to be dethroned before peace could return. They make plans to confront Awiagina and the rest of the varians to pose the idea of a truce. With Elias on their side, it would give them a chance to be heard. They make preparations to leave.

Day 3:The humans confront the varian leader with the aid of the second-in-command. The human leader makes it clear they want peace, and the rest of the varians hesitate only slightly before lowering their guard. It becomes clear that only the varian leader really opposes the desire for peace, and they are begrudgingly forced to accept that they are no longer in charge. The rest of the humans and varians enter negotiations for a treaty to draw new borders and for their people so they can live in peace.
