Watching Amity's face light up with each new book was something Connor couldn't get enough of - less joyful, however, was the impact each was going to have on his pocketbook and when Cadi pulled out the large Astro Boy omnibus volume a full fledged panic alarm went off. He didn't want to disappoint the girls but he had to draw the line somewhere.
"We'll get the Astro Boy another time," Connor said, gently taking it out of Amity's arms and setting it back on the shelf before looking back to Cadi. "Junior batgirl doesn't have an allowance yet." A topic he would be talking with Ronan about soon. Very soon.
"Thanks for helping out, though." As much as coming to the comic book shop was a drain on his wallet there was a reason he still came, and he'd be more than willing to come back with Amity another time. Well. Once his shoulders stopped itching from the stare she was no doubt boring into his back right now.

"Oh -- I had no idea." Cadi's reply was sheepish and color steadily climbed in her cheeks. It had been rather presumptuous on her part about Amity's budget, but she had gotten a little carried away in her enthusiasm. It was not very often that she had an opportunity like this that was not met with blank stares or derision (in the case of her older sister), but she pushed past her initial embarrassment and smiled. "No worries, dude, I got way carried away." She turned her eyes to the bat Frei. "Maybe once you got your allowance set, we can come back?" It was a semi-hopeful invite; now that her family was involved with the Lab and with Claire and Aaron's Raevan on the way, Cadi had no doubt that she would likely run into Amity again.
"Speaking of money," Aaron cut in with an apologetic note, "You might want to watch your own budget here, too." He plucked one of the graphic novels from the shelf behind them and turned it over in his hands, cringing at the price. He had had no idea that comics were so expensive nowadays! Cadi shot him a dead-eyed look.
"Thanks, Dad," she intoned, echoing herself from earlier, but there was a hint of resignation in her voice as he had made a fair point. She could not afford to get too frivolous here. "I guess this means we should about wrap it, huh?" Aaron nodded with one more sweeping glance around the shop itself; they had come for him to get introduced to comics but the Lab had provided quite the interesting distraction, as it tended to do. At least the shop was local and they could try again another time, when money was more forgiving. The two of them started towards the counter when the clerk who had helped them earlier hustled out of the back, a few plastic-wrapped back issues in hand.
"Just in time!" He beamed and held up his findings - four back issues of Batman, bearing Bruce Timm's familiar style. "Last four we got for now." Cadi did not try to fight her smile as she looked over at Aaron with a smug, victorious grin, and there was a noticable lightness to her step as she made her way to the counter. Aaron had to laugh - try as she might, she could never really cool her excitement.

"Uh... sure?" Amity understood the basics of money, but before she'd never really had any need or use for it, and one of the man things she remembered was how attached people people got to it. Right now though, it just seemed more annoying than anything.
Making her way up to the counter with Connor and the others she waited for several moments, not realizing until he gestured that she was supposed to give the items to be rung up... and she proceeded to nearly throw her items at the cashier. Luckily they took it in stride, jumping in surprise before laughing and starting ring things up.
Once the bag of goods was back in Amity's hands and Connor's wallet was suitably drained they went off to the side, letting the other two come forward to make their purchases.

The clerk grinned and spread the copies out on the counter as soon as Cadi and Aaron approached - each bore a circular sticker in the upper corner with the marked price. Cadi's enthusiasm waned visibly for a moment as she zeroed in on the prices, enough for Aaron to notice. However, she slid her hand over the three to the right, a doleful look to the fourth one and most expensive of the bunch. "I'll take these three."
"Aw man, giving up 'Mad Love'?" the clerk said. Cadi groaned and slumped her shoulders.
"Money dictates, maybe next time," she said with a wry grin. Aaron glanced down at the book, and without another thought, he pulled his wallet out of his pocket.
"I'll take it," he said with a smile, mostly directed at Cadi. She looked at him in clear confusion, mouth open to protest but he waved her off. "You can swap me out for some of the others you have. We'll trade. Besides, I know about Harley Quinn and all that, so it's as good a place as any to start." Cadi pursed her lips, eyebrow quirked up as she passed over her card to the clerk.
"Fine," she said at some length, "but you gotta liveblog your experience to me, deal?" A ghost of a smile appeared on her face again.
"Deal," Aaron agreed, just as amiably. The next purchase took next to no time itself, and the clerk handed him his receipt, clapping Aaron's hand between the two of his and saying, "Come back soon. Let me know how you like them, eh?" Aaron grabbed up his bag, and with a glance at Cadi, the two of them moved over to join Amity and Connor.
"Nice meeting you, man," Aaron said amiably, shifting the bag so he could shake Connor's hand. "And nice meeting you too, Amity. But if you guys are in Gambino I'm sure we'll run into each other again." With their own Raevan on the way, that was a fairly safe bet.
"See you later," Cadi said with a grin, her own hand held out to Amity and she indicated the Frei's bag with her own. "And hey, you enjoy those and lemme know what you think when we see each other again, okay?"

Even though Amity's items were now wrapped up in a bag they had gone right back to being clutched against her chest, the frei tapping at the plastic while waiting for the other two to finish with their purchases. Most of this was new to her but as the pony tailed man had asked when they came in, she was now a convert.
Soon enough the other two had come back over and Connor accepted Aaron's handshake, making sure to not grip too hard. "Likewise."
Amity, in comparison, accepted Cadi's handshake with reckless abandon, hand shooting out to give Cadi's hand several rapid pumps before wrapping back around the bag. "I will! And it was great to meet you!" Amity didn't know when she might be able to meet the other girl again, but no matter what she hoped it wouldn't be too long.
Farewells given the two headed out the door, Connor giving one last wave to the shop keeper and Amity backing out the door, waving all the way until the two of them were completely out of sight.
