Ashara Vaadishk

There's a fine line between...
love and...
hate...

Ashara gave another long stretch out as she thought of the words to explain it to Athena the way the other two might. The two of them had always been there for her and she for them in return. While she had no expectations of everything like either one of their personalities, she always wanted to make them understood. "Hmm think about back there just now, yeah. The tech Kami and those under her command makes are things exclusive to the Banshees. She's encrypted and locked away the details of the tech they have made even from Legion. Not because she doesn't want to share it but because she equipping us all exclusively with the best, yeah. That's a star for her. A reason for being here." The commander reached over to a pocket of her clothing that was left sprawled out to the side of them. It was a holographic access card etched with Athena's code name. "Another is building trust in those that work in the shop and the tech they distribute to protect us without faults." She held the card out to Athena with a smile and continued. "She could certainly learn to say it better but she was upset with you because that trust was broken before you even started with her, yeah. Kami even had this access card to the storage and workshop ready for you. Heck I don't even have one of these." She laughed hard knowing full well the thing that Athena and Nanira did was exactly the same reason why she had been permanently banned except in emergencies.

"You were right in saving us, yeah. You both are valid in wanting to protect everyone on this ship. But just as she must acknowledge it was what saved us, you will need to recognize how you could have killed anyone of us." She tucked the card back away and laid on her side to face Athena. "Any other stars you'll have to ask her about. Now you will be back to working in the shop under the understanding that you will both be working together and that she is your commanding officer while there. I know you are as skilled as you want to show us. Show her and yourself what your stars are. Do that and I'm sure this card will be in your possession in no time. I look forward to seeing what you'll make, yeah." With that she rose up to her feet and proceeded to get in one last good stretch. "Think on what I said. Maybe even ask your roommate why she's here. Trouble making can be bonding but defending someone with your life requires more. More than skill. More than survival. Next time we train let me know what you came up with. With that Ashara moved out of the hidden room to let Athena sit with her thoughts or take in the view as she pleased.

BAthena’s mouth went agape as Ashara flashed the key card meant for her from Kami. “What?” She said quietly as she was left in disbelief that someone was just going to let her in had she not been trying to prove her worth. She went from feeling witty and wanting to chirp the head technician to being dumbfounded by the trust the human must have had in her to let her in so easily. Her eyes sparked with uncertainty in them as she tried to process the confusion of an act of kindness shown on her. Everything the Banshees did here was incompatible with what the Nox had conditioned her to do. Here on the Spreta, the leaders of the bunch were for more lenient and merciful with her gambles so far. Was she taking that for granted? With Ashara gone and the silence of the nook entrusted in her for a moment to contemplate, she decided to sit and reflect for a little bit longer before returning to Nanira and their room.

————————

Back at the two rookies’ cabin, a Melvaurian napped in a languorous manner about the bottom bunk of their bed. She liked rolling about to find the best manner to nap in. Her orders were simple on the Spreta; stay out of the higher-ups’ hair and they would stay out of her’s when it came to daily ship routines. On top of that, she had been explained to by those in the intelligence department that a Melvaurian needed to rest up anyways. She didn’t entirely get the specifications of her race, but she also stopped looking since any details of her kind were often redacted. It almost seemed like it was a work of imagination despite existing as one supposedly. But it had its benefits for the Banshees, she just had to be ready for combat.

Still, it was kind of dull without Athena around since the human actually had roles to go about. She looked at the unique crystal she had been working on for the blonde as a proper welcoming gift wondering when she would be back. She had created several gems based on the Banshees that piqued her interest; black diamond patterned with green shimmers, greige with a topaz details, light grey opal complimented with pewter teal, and a capri blue with a sunflower shade that wrapped around it. Now, she had Athena’s to the collection with its janquil colors and rings of aquamarine. It fascinated her, but made her more curious when the owner of it would return so she could gift it to her.

Her hair stood on end when she heard their door slide open. “There’s the geek squad’s newest member!” Nanira quipped before a perplexed look hit her face. Her fellow rookie had a conflicted demeanor about her as if she had done something wrong. “What? Did you blow up the workshop or something?”

Time went by as Athena got into the details of her argument with Kami and the talk she had with Ashara without unveiling the commander’s hideout. Yet it didn’t look like a problem as Nanira was having a fit of laughter that the two humans got into it right in front of the commander.

“That is insane!” The Melvaurian cackled as she kicked her claws about in the air, “Ohh, I wish I could have seen the dumbfounded look on the princess’s face trying to get between you two! Probably thought it would be smooth sailing and everything in her head.”

Athena had a blush on her face in embarrassment realizing how much of a scene that must have been. It didn’t help how obnoxious Nanira’s expressions due to the similarities she had with the Nox Cartel’s Bantrus. “It ain’t that funny!” She finally snarled with her sharp teeth bared.

Nanira was trying to fight off the rest of her fit as best as she could realizing this was a serious matter for her companion. “You’re right, it’s a riot!” She said as she laid back into her bed, “Everyone here gets a little stiff in front of the second-in-command, but you were bumping chests with her. Who gave you the rack to talk back?”

“It’s just what I do!” Athena insisted with her arms open in reasoning, “I won my freedom walking the walk and having the mouth to back it. I learned if I showed fear then others could sense it like blood in the water.”

“Well, yeah. But they’re not going to kill you here.” Nanira smirked as she sprawled out feeling euphoric from such a good laugh, “They actually want you here. So they’re going to discipline you differently. If you back talk higher-ups, of course they’re going to shut you down.”

“But she wasn’t listening!” Athena snapped up in defense.

“Yeah, well, neither were you.” Nanira teased the human a little as she propped herself up on her pillow.

“So you think I was wrong then?” Athena suggested as she felt an annoyance in her chest. Once again, it felt like she wasn’t allowed to fight for what she believed in.

“I don’t think you were wrong,” she extended her hand out to offer the gem in bargain for the human to listen, “but it sounds like you both had some pretty good points. Rough part is that you were an unstoppable force and Kami was an immovable object.”

Athena looked at Nanira blankly at her bunkmate’s reference. The cogs looked like they were trying to turn in her head as her eyes narrowed, but she couldn’t process the meaning. “That doesn’t make any sense.” She said as she crossed her arms with a puzzled expression.

Nanira gave a humored smirk. “It’s a paradox.” She replied, but could see that it fell on deaf ears the way Athena didn’t have any reaction to it, “I thought they found you on a rock, not under one.”

Bandit didn’t budge, but the corner of her mouth shrugged. “That sounded like an insult.” She grumbled at Gale with suspicion as she accepted the gem.

The green eyes of the reptilian female widened as she could see why the argument started in the first place. “You two were so caught up in your own ideas that you two were never going to get anywhere.”

“Oh.” Athena glanced away as she ran her fingers over the textured rock. She was probably right on that point, “What, so should I just never do anything ever again? That’s what it sounded like.”

Nanira chuckled in disbelief before shrugging her shoulders. “Sounds like they both just want you to live and learn.” She replied before watching her cabin mate fiddle with the rock, “You think the blue bush buffoon follows every word Kami says? If she did, they probably wouldn’t be running this whole thing. They’re just mitigating. . .lessening trouble.”

Athena burrowed her brows as she processed Nanira’s words. As much as her counterpart lounged about and acted slothful she came off as wise and pragmatic. “I guess Blue is right about you knowing a thing or two about trouble making.”

“Huh?” The beastly woman scowled in disgust as she hooked her roomie in with her tail, “She just likes to hear herself talk! If she could talk out of her arse she would just so she could hear herself some more!”

The former pirate looked a little stunned at how offended Nanira came off at Ashara’s accusations. “Well. . .she told me to ask you,” she struggled as she tried to pry herself free from such a powerful grasp, “Why you were brought to the Banshees.”

Nanira froze up at the sensitive topic before easing up on her hold of the human. For a moment, it seemed like her tough exterior had been pierced to wound her. “I . . .got into a fight.” She explained as she despised how the commander could act like she was allowed to hang that over her head as if she had any context of the incident, “I was expelled indefinitely from the Institute I went to.”

“A fight?” Athena nervously smirked as she hadn’t seen such a pained expression on the Melvaurian’s face yet during her stay here, “Did you win?”

Nanira rubbed the back of her head with a hint of regret. “I wouldn’t say anyone won. I was just trying to protect myself.” Her gut felt like it was in knots as she recalled the incident in her head, “Guess I did because it got me a one way ticket here.” She thought about her first encounter with the commander of the Banshees as well and how close she was to repeating the very same incident.

Athena could see the clear turmoil she was putting her friend through with the questions brought up. Without a thought, she stroked Nanira’s crimson mane of hair in comfort as if in apology. “You said you were defending yourself, so I don’t doubt it.” The human explained knowing that what Ashara had done for her was probably what every Banshee craved once in a while, “If you ever want to talk about it more then we can. I got all the time in the world, Nani.”

The last thing Nanira expected in the moment was a gentle stroke of her hair as she gave a flinch. She had seen the act before, but never got to experience such a comfort. It made her hesitate before pulling away trying to play off her own fluster. “Alright, alright!” Nanira nervously growled as she felt warm all over. It was a nice feeling, but an unfamiliar one as she had no clue how to return the gesture, “I’ll tell you all about it one day when the time is right. When it’s still not all fresh in my head.”

Athena chuckled as her partner in crime squirmed away in a brighter mood, “It’s a deal then.” She clutched onto the gem as they rustled about on the bed.

“Until then,” Nanira embraced the new recruit as she hugged onto her like a plush doll, 'You make for a pretty good pillow, you know that?”

“Not this again!” Athena gave an amused grunt as the two wrestled to fight for the human’s freedom to her own bed, “You crush me everytime!”

“You’re still alive!” Nanira laughed as thumps and thuds could be heard about in their cabin, “You can talk all the shite you want about the Workshop Tyrant if you let me snuggle you! You can get it all out of your system!”
