He truly represents the yin and yang, having a dark, sneaky, manipulative and intense which he mostly shows in battle. However he has also the yang which expresses his calm, humble and somewhat kind attitude towards humans and Pokémon. Because of these number of traits, he can kind of hard to read but once he's understood, its really deep. It is stated that his complex personality resulted after his first packmen's death which influenced him to be the sharp, sneaky, and vicious personality like a viper.
• Biography: Kōketsu is an elite trainer who specializes in Poison type pokemon. He runs the Southlyn and final gym before a trainer(s) face the next set of gyms or the Elite Four. Kōketsu awards the Virus Badge and TM09 (Venoshock) to whoever beats him in a Gym Battle.

Kōketsu was born and raised in the Aliria region. Nothing really special about him in the beginning of his days as a trainer. He was like others, normal guy wanting to become the best trainer that his generation has known and rank up there with the greatest of Trainers who came before him. Though he didn't really take part in trying to go against the Elite Four and face the Champ. To him it seemed more as a waste of time. Starting out on his journey, Kōketsu found and caught his first Pokémon which was Bulbasaur. Together, Kōketsu would be able to face anyone who was able to step in his path of being great.
xxxxLongest Day - Apex Predatorxxxx
Throughout his journey, Kōketsu face against many trainers in the Aliria region. It got to a point where in order to truly test his skills, he had to travel to Pluto and even the Unova region to face against trainers that resided there. At first, it seemed as if he was planning to move to stay and actually enter the Pokémon League, he came across and very strong trainer and his own pokemon who brought Kōketsu down to his knees. Though this may have seemed normal, it was this very day that Kōketsu considered the longest of his life. When these two trainers met each other, it was in a cave. Kōketsu ran into him by accident where the trainer was minding his own business, battling wild pokémon just for the hell of it. These two locked eyes with each other and battled it out to the mightiest of their potential, however...Kōketsu's pokémon was taken down one by one, leaving only his Venasaur left to battle. The fight concluded with the trainer's victory, leaving Venasaur and Kōketsu behind with some sever injuries. Both were in pretty rough shape but Kōketsu knew he had to get his pokémon to a center quickly so they can heal up...well let's just say that Venasaur didn't make it in time...he died once Kōketsu actually managed to get out of the cave...leaving him alone to pass out due to lack of energy and injuries. He woken up in a Pokémon center where he received the news of his Venasaur. Kōketsu's life thus changed from that day, drowned with grief and sorrow, Kōketsu made it his life goal to become strong so that no one will be able to beat him, he would take upon a different style of battling and even one day seek vengeance for his passing friend.
Kōketsu returned home to Aliria and gave his Venasaur a proper funeral. Leaving only a few more days to grieve but then to restart his journey from scratch. Sticking to his oath, he took upon a new style of battling with pokémon. Utilizing the status conditions to torment and harm his opponents and striking when his prey was at his most vulnerable. His fighting style, gained so much recognition tremendously where he became recognized as Aliria's own "Apex Predator."

Several months passed for Kōketsu since Venasaur's passing. A set of exams were being held for Aliria to test the willpower and strength of trainers to see who can be the leaders for their region. For Kōketsu, this was his way for testing his might against other trainers who came all across the globe. He knew from watching the Pluto's region exam that 8 winners will be granted the title of Gym Leader. Kōketsu entered the exams for Aliria and took down his opponents in a vicious manner, keeping true to his moniker. At the end, Kōketsu, along with 7 others were awarded the title of Gym Leader and what's even greater was the fact that he was named the 8th and the strongest of the rest. For Kōketsu this was a new chapter for him. Now not only would he be a leader for Aliria but also he had to teach challenging trainers on their way of Pokémon of what it takes to be a trainer and if they have a chance to face the ones who actually surpass him in skill. Unfortunately, every trainer who came by to challenge him, never really get the purpose that he always try to teach...."versatility." Utilizing resources to outwit your opponent. Only a few learned what Kōketsu was teaching and those few managed to get far in the Elite Four and became strong trainers in their right. Others, well not so much. He now resides in Southlyn City where he takes part a researcher while he's not Gym Battling for extra income.
