Overview
Much like the wolf spider in their house symbol, House Do'viir is not a patiently plotting clan, spinning out huge webs to entrap all those who go near. It is instead driven and single-minded, some say to a fault, in hunting down and dispatching those whom it perceives as weaker. Compared to drow that concoct ploys and tactics intended for use years, or tens of years down the road, Do'viir's ruling bloodline focuses on immediate, swift and decisive strikes. While this gives them immense flexibility, it leaves them weak to more elaborate long-term plots by other houses. The most vulnerable state for House Do'viir is when it has to divide it's attention between multiple targets, all free to slowly and leisurely plan their own counterattacks. In a city where there are dozens of other houses jockeying for position, this leads them to a distinct disadvantage.
House Do'viir relies extensively on the pure strength of their elite Kal'daka troupes, or packs - the wolves of house Do'viir. These strike teams are trained to infiltrate another house and wipe out the entire ruling bloodline. The wolves then retreat without leaving a single thread to trace the act back to them. Along with the wolves, Do'virr boasts an extensive arcane research wing. This allows them to scry into enemy territory, and prepare counter-spells for magical defences. These two arms of Do'viir allow it to go through weaker or unprepared houses like a hot knife through butter. Unlike most drow organizations, betrayal and plotting for Kal'daka packs is not tolerated. Instead, it will get the offending drow swiftly executed. This enforces a policy of total trust between pack soldiers and allows them to wholly focus on the target at hand, rather than any infighting. Instead of vying for promotion, all Kal'daka drow who bear children have the honour of their brood being formally adopted by the Do'viir Matron. This gift is a temporary one, for as long as they continue to succeed in their work.
The internal power structure in House Do'viir changes with the same speed and suddenness as their forays against other houses. The female drow in the house who currently commands the most loyalty within the Kal'daka packs, is the female who has the power. At her fingers she holds the strength to remove whomever is standing in the way of her own goals. Most Matron Mothers of the house rise to power using the family's own strike troupes against her own flesh and blood. This is a habit that has reached the point of tradition in the house. It is seen as a point of pride that the only one who can usurp the Matron Mother of Do'viir is the house itself. To the Do'viir, this proves that none other can match it in it's strength and deadliness. If a Kal'daka pack is unsuccessful in a mission and attempt to return to Do'viir territory, they are attacked on sight, killed and disposed of. Usually with the corpses being planted in places to incriminate other houses.
As a house that relies on sudden and total decapitation of another house, Do'viir carries the same strategy to making money. They prefer to prey on the weak rather than investing in a long-term strategy of their own. The majority of Do'viirs regular troupes are raiders. They travel through the Underdark and attack caravans, small settlements of other species, and sometimes venture to the surface to raid and pillage. The one thing Do'viir passes on is slavery, killing all enemies in combat rather than leaving them alive for profit. This is fairly uncommon for houses and drow in general, but does leave the raiders with more mobility and less mouths to feed during their campaigns. While there are house slaves in the Do'viir compound itself, they are usually children of previous Do'viir slaves. Only when new blood is required for breeding purposes are more brought in. This is another tradition, brought on by a previous Matron narrowly escaping a failed assassination attempt by a drow from another house, entering theirs as an undercover slave.
History
Driven out of Illiamazan after being finally crushed by the political manoeuvrings of a half-dozen weaker clans, House Do'viir ended up finding and founding the site of the new city of Yoch Vier, named after their Matron Mother Viervol Do'viir. Here, they set up as the primary, and only house, with the entire city under their control. Despite this being the ultimate goal of all houses, it has been causing Do'viir's ruling bloodline to resort to bickering and infighting. Lacking common enemies to unite against, the house threatens to tear itself apart. In addition, as the city's population grows, their clerks estimate that it will simply become too big for one house to manage on it's own.
