So there's been this trend, but it's always been around. Someone debuts a new gimmick, and it's instantly no-sold or shitted on by an opponent because they don't want to look 'weak'

I can list examples like Chrono debuting in EEW, and despite proving to be a dominant force in many places 'The Manhattan Project' instantly shitted on the gimmick. Luckily some people can come back from that, while others fade into obscurity...

Or when Copperhead Croft debuted, Jarel instantly shitted the gimmick,
what about Rebz shitting on the Ryan Killman thing. Yes it was gross, nasty and all of that but just imagine trying to out do it to 'him'

Panphobia?
No one is afraid of anything? Way to s**t on THAT guys

The Tetris thing Kujaku did that Matthias shitted on?

But I never quite got that as to why? Why people instantly s**t on something new that people come up with to try and improve their character because they felt it got stale.

Some people don't live it down, some never come back from it. Sure there's the rare case where people can come back from it.

My point is this, you can see someone is doing something new. Why not go with it? What do you 'really' have to lose?
So what if your character gets embarrassed for a segment
There's always another segment, a match, a feud.

You can always get your comeuppance, that's the beauty of RPing wrestling or really anything at all.

I mean if you don't like the outcome you can always revision your own history to where those events never happened I mean it's not like 'that' hasn't been done before.

Yes there are severely idiotic segments/gimmicks that are so idiotic that they 'should' be ignored but at the very least see them out, or 'ask' the person what they're trying to do rather than go.

"Nope, I'm ******** your s**t up hurr durr'

It'd disrespectful, shitty and more importantly it is a waste. By that I mean you've successfully wasted someone's time and effort because you want to be a d**k.

A pain in the a** indeed when gimmicks and ideas are totally sand bagged. As a person who had one moment using the gimmick messed up, I understand where this would be coming from.

Of course a lot of the "defiance" is based off the fact that there are some people that NEED to have their characters look strong 99% of the time. So gimmicks will be ruined, and the matches will have a bit of try-harding behind them, which you can smell a mile away. Also some people just want a certain thing, so they will go through anything to get what they want.

I can come up with some solutions.

For the person with the gimmick, always come up with at least a back-up plan for your character. Being able to roll with the punches will keep SO many opportunities alive. If the person who messes things up is able to think quickly, so can you. Might not look pretty but there are other days.

The other solution is trying to talk to the person in private about what you're about to do. If the person you're about to have the match/segment with is known to you for being a person to mess up gimmicks, maybe explaining what's going to happen and setting up a deal in the future will make things go smooth.
A lot of people in the guild know that I'm a person that will be happy to talk through matches/segments/feuds, and it's because you don't have to stress out about your gimmick failing and worry about writing about a great gimmick.

As for the person that's on the receiving end.

Just take the bullet. Most of the time takes more than one person to make something amazing happen. So not only will the winner shine, the loser will have some praise and won't look like an a*****e. Plus people would want to work with you, which helps you become a greatly praised RPer, which leads to bigger roles in guilds.

I've seen this a lot, most of it in recent years and I've seen a lot of characters disappear because of it. It all comes down to willingness. Everyone wants to win some of the time, but you certainly don't need to win all of the time. Moreover, if you're building a character that needs to be strong, or to win all the time; it simply comes down to either you might need to rethink your character, or you might need to pull yourself to the side to find others that are willing to put you over. When you refuse to sell for whatever reason, you make yourself look like an a** and it limits who will want to work with you in the future.

Do I detect a pot calling the kettle black?

Contrary to what you think, I've lost more than I've won, unlike some people I've sold gimmicks.
The ones I haven't I've made known as to 'why' whether in private or via OOC post. Hidden in spoilers.

Also, I use stainless steel cookware, so my pots and kettles are shiny wink

More saying that we are all guilty of shutting down ideas before they can be realized. Whether or not someone is successful is irrelevant.

I'd ask why Kujaku wasn't speaking for himself on this topic but that would be inaccurate.

That's a good point; why isn't the crowned prince of ludicrous gimmicks defending himself?

Because he doesn't care

To be honest, it just seems to me that if someone is going to take a dump on something someone's done creatively; or trying to accomplish for the sake of trying someone new and someone is just like "Nope", then what's the point?

They obviously must have a WCW Hogan-esque creative control clause in their fictional contract, or they're just an a*****e.
Either way I couldn't care less.

To me if someone feels the need to do that, then they obviously want/need the self gratification more, to which kudos you've got yourself a win.
I'd rather put my talents elsewhere.

So, thank you for that. Congrats on your virtual fictional win at the expense of others.

So does this also cover instances where you do this as well, or is this intentionally excluding yourself?

Well considering this wouldn't really be an issue if your darling Kujaku hadn't been a part of it...

Locked by yours truly. The main post holds its points, and as for the topic of Kujaku, he said himself that he does not care about whatever has occurred.
