I very honestly didn't think they would, but the whole "Is Hannibal in love with Will" was super directly addressed! Will asked, "Is Hannibal in love with me?" I don't know why I'm surprised and it's not like it wasn't obviously an undertone. Your thoughts?

I'm also surprised that it's finally been explicitly addressed. And that Bluebeard reference! Still, it doesn't dredge up any new content. As you've said, love between the two of them has always been an undertone from the start and often expressed in flowery, poetic metaphors or plot arcs (like with Abigail and being her "fathers"; the fake teaming up; the idea of running away together). Hannibal is like a rom-com (those delightfully awful puns definitely suffice as comedy) that went really, really wrong. lol It's a really interesting relationship overall. I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns throughout the series in regards to them.

Ah. antiparticle's comment made me think of something. Hannibal and Will Graham's relationship is maybe dysfunctional at best, but it never feels twisted, at least in the Hannibal show sense. I only ring this up because I recently had a discussion regarding homosexuality portrayed in media.

One comment was that gay men are different than lesbians in media. While lesbians have been sexualized they are also given an innocent love story or believable relationships, while gay men are more. . . not. The Birdcage and Brokeback Mountain are the only mainstream things I can think of (but haven't watched), but the other ones are either coming to term with sexuality or not gay men pretending to be gay.

I guess I'm asking if Hannibal and Will seem like a more believable couple and if this has any impact on the LGBT community, either good or bad.

I find it even more interesting that both have been shown to be attracted to women as well. Bisexual men don't exist in media -- well, apart from (again) Brokeback Mountain, where the main characters both seem to have more fluid sexuality.

And on the subject of lesbians, I love that Alana and Margot actually have a stable domestic situation. I wasn't sure how that would play out, and now that I think of it I wonder if they're Dolarhyde's final "perfect family" to target. They're connected very closely to Will and Hannibal, Dolarhyde already attacked Will's family, and...
I don't know how reliable it is, but Katharine Isabelle is listed on IMDB as being in the final episode.

BACK TO HANNIGRAM.
It's not a healthy relationship, but it IS a relationship nonetheless. Just because there hasn't been any physical intimacy shown onscreen doesn't mean that the two aren't involved. Though there is this. (Possible spoilers for S3 finale?)

"I remember when I turned in the rewrite pages where Will asks Bedelia if Hannibal is in love with him, I got a note from Don Mancini, one of our writers who was always pushing for more homosexual text – not just context or subtext but text, text, text – and he was like, "I'm so glad you put that in there! They said it! They said it!"

I was a little surprised by how excited he was because it just felt organic to me, so I guess I had been fooling myself about how obvious that element of the story was. "
- Fuller
I laugh because this thread is based on me having that reaction, but also because the homosexuality was obviously there, but in media it's never seriously or directly addressed. I mean is there a homosexual movie/tv show that isn't a comedy ?(besides Brokeback Mountain) And don't put Sherlock down because they aren't an item, never will be, and the mentions of it are comediac and don't feel like an actual built up romance.

Which oddly enough, Will and Hannibal feel like one of the best fleshed out romances ever.

For Alana, her bisexuality seemed to come out of the blue to me. Granted, I didn't get to see her relationship really evolve. But it at first felt like Alana playing a Hannibal, and though I got used to it, it seemed sudden. But that last clip at the end with Margot and Alana and child? They looked like the cutest family!

Yeah, we saw what was going on with Will and Hannibal and even Bedelia but there wasn't a whole lot shown of what the gang in the US was up to. Hell, where were Brian and Jimmy? Probably took a vacation to the Bahamas or something, since everyone else was seemingly on holiday.

The Verger-Bloom family IS adorable, although I was pretty confused about the kid. Three years passed between Muskrat Farm and Dolarhyde, right? Assuming Alana got pregnant asap, it would still take 9 months for the baby to be born obviously. That's about one year right there. The kid would be two years old, at most, and their son looked quite a bit older than that to me. UNLESS... she was already pregnant, and she and Margot put Mason down as the father to get the inheritance/protect the kid. Augh, now I'm getting ideas for Murder Family 2.0. gonk

So it was only 3 years? When I saw the kid I was like, "How far ahead is this?" Now I know. Brian and Jimmy, the medical examiners? I love how they are comic relief and aren't annoying.
