Going of the 'standard' equipment and rookies, you've got a GM with a beam spray, beam sabre, and a shield against a zaku with a 120mm machine gun, crackers, heat hawk and no shield ((Possibly a bazooka, but I don't think that would be standard)). If they were rookies the GM could close the distance before the zaku beats past the shield.
An experienced pilot in the Zaku however? Well then that GM's out of his league.
