xxxPERSONALITYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

RESPONSIBLE Philomène is extremely mindful of her duties as a professor, and does not take her position or her subject lightly. Her sense of duty is very strong, and she always strives to meet the expectations of the people around her, though this is sometimes born more out of social awareness than an intense inner drive. She tends to do things more out of a sense of obligation than anything else, but it also forces her to face up to her own mistakes and shortcomings
LOYAL Philomène likes stability and security in her life. She strongly believes in the status quo, and would never willingly go against an authority figure in her life, even when she doesn't personally agree with all of their decisions. She is constantly supportive of her family and friends, and would do anything for them. She can always be relied upon to stand by the people she cares about, even if there are consequences.
SOCIABLE Philomène is a social butterfly who generally finds it very easy to converse and forge connections with the people around her. She likes to be comfortable in a social setting, and she also likes to be well liked and admired by the people around her. Wherever she is, she wants to fit in and belong, and will follow whatever social cues are present to do so. She is very talented when it comes to small talk.
RIGID Philomène is stickler when it comes to most social conventions, and does not like to bend her ways or make exceptions for more flexible people. She can push her own beliefs too much on others, and dislikes it when people flaunt their refusal to adhere to society's social norms. She is also very wary of doing things differently or stepping out of her own comfort zone and being rebuked. This can set her at odds with her more freethinking students.
CRITICAL Philomène tends to judge immediately, and sometimes harshly. Her disapproving stare is known to many of her students, and while she would never criticize a fellow adult to their face, she isn't afraid to tell her students exactly what they're doing wrong in no uncertain terms. At times, she can be practically scathing, and her first opinions of others are not always the most flattering.
SUPERFICIAL Philomène is at times far too preoccupied with outward appearances and social niceties, and can neglect to see beyond the cover of the book to read its contents. She is very concerned with social status and influence, but she tries to remind herself to teach her students that etiquette is also about morals and values, not just polite behavior and the correct way to stand and sit.

xxxBACKSTORYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

EARLY CHILDHOOD Philomène was born in the city of Lorient in the Brittany region of northwestern France, specifically in Lanester, the city's largest suburb. Her father was a wizard and Beauxbatons graduate named Charles, her mother a muggle woman from an old, wealthy family named Estelle. They met while walking by the Scorff River, and Philomène was raised on tales from her mother of their romance being 'love at first sight'. Charles was 26, Estelle 24. They married just seven months later. Estelle's family was wary, but pleased by the amount of money Charles seemed to be bringing to the table, what with his vague job doing 'something in government'. In reality, he worked for the French magical government, but his in-laws never pressed very far. Philomène was born three years later, and unfortunately the marriage was already failing by that point. Charles worked long hours, was secretive with his wife. She suspected an affair. He'd never told her the truth about his world, parallel to hers, and when it finally came out she was shocked, then disbelieving. They fought constantly, but struggled to stay together for the sake of their small daughter, whom they considered the light of their lives. Philomène struggled to reconcile this withering marriage with its fairy tale beginning for most of her childhood, and was happiest when she was alone with either parent. From her father she cultivated a sense of responsibility and loyalty, from her mother a love of the social arena and all its complexities. Her childhood was not always happy, but she always knew she was treasured and loved.

SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR Philomène was placed in Aphrodite, as all female students are, and spent her first year getting accustomed to the school and its traditions.
SECOND YEAR Philomène made several close friends and discovered Etiquette was by far her favorite class. What she hadn't learned from her mother she was learning now.
THIRD YEAR Philomène was quiet and withdrawn her third year, as her parents had gotten a divorce over the summer. Luckily, they agreed to split custody of their daughter.
FOURTH YEAR Philomène went through a moody teen phase, spurred on by the recent divorce and having to spend half her holidays with one parent, and half with the other.
FIFTH YEAR Philomène began dating an older male student she'd fallen for; he strayed and she responded with a scathing anonymous Howler, which her friends still chuckle over.
SIXTH YEAR Philomène developed a better understanding of her own sexuality, upon realizing that she liked whom she liked regardless of gender.
SEVENTH YEAR Philomène's father remarried a witch he worked with, whom she despised on principle at first, but eventually came around to. She also graduated.

POST-GRADUATION Philomène missed the school she had come to love and had considered home throughout her teen years terribly, but got a job in a wizarding clothing shop, which catered to her intense love of fashion. But after a few years, she began wondering what it would be like to return to school, and eventually applied for a professor position, noticing that her old favorite subject needed a teacher. She was thrilled to be accepted to teach at the age of twenty three, just five years after graduating.
