A Bundle of Wings & Eyes
Open:
July 29, 2015 @ 2 AM PST
Closed: August 3, 2015 @ 11:59 PM PST

Welcome to A Bundle of Wings & Eyes! This contest is for newbies to Lucifer's line. It's a character concept and plot contest, with a dash of roleplay thrown in for good measure.

Read below for rules, information about the family, and the forms.

Rules

  1. Read these rules.
  2. Follow them, the rules of Soquili, and Gaia's rules/ToS.
  3. Lucifer line newbies only. This includes triwings and descendants without the trait. If you know you will be receiving a descendant of Lucifer soon, or if you have a breeding that has been taken on, please do not enter. Co-ownership that includes breeding or RP rights = non-newbie.
If you have plots with a Lucifer descendant but have not had your breeding taken on yet, you may still enter.
  4. Fill out the form completely, or your entry will go unread.
  5. No late entries; time stamps will be checked.

Guidelines & Hints

  • "Sinclair" is the family's surname, and it's a good idea to use it.
  • There are several name themes in this family: from Lucifer's line come names with religious connotations. This is true of the basket's sisters, Adoration and Resurrection. Many Sinclair (Cleaver) names are of Italian/Romance language origin. Other name themes can be found if you look closely at smaller, nuclear families in the lines (links to trees can be found below). Conform or diverge as you see fit. :3
  • We prefer active Soquili regulars who will stick around to roleplay or at least plot with their new basket.
  • Kidnapping plots will not be received well unless the foal/basket is found within hours of being taken. These three would hunt and catch a kidnapper, and who knows what would follow. Lost foal plots are not feasible with the close eye they will keep on the little ones (unless, again, they are only gone for a short time).

Family

This
family is extremely close-knit, quirky, and filled with love. Accepting and caring almost to a fault, they are part of a larger herd: the Sinclair Family Herd, also known as the Cleavers. Although they do not stay with the family year round, these three and their children will be part of the larger herd's celebrations as long as they are together - which is for the foreseeable future. (( Vapor will eventually separate from the family with Resurrection in tow, but not for a long time yet, and he will return periodically. ))

Vermillion and Arcadia met as fillies, became best friends, and have pretty much lived together ever since. While their relationship is not usually of a romantic nature, the two are partners, and will raise a family together. Vapor joined them when Arcadia found him, starving and alone in the wintertime, and the two of them nursed him back to good health. The level of romance in the relationship among the three of them isn't exactly clear as yet, but they will be raising the foals together - the girls with a little less help and a little more mischief from Vapor than they would probably appreciate.

Mother: Arcadia Sinclair
About: A minimalist, Arcadia is very strict and serious when it comes to her art, to the point of obsessiveness, and this bleeds into her everyday life - when she collects materials, she takes things that will leave the smallest mark on the environment. When she plays, she hates to tear up the grass, knock over stones... She isn't be the best playmate, especially since she doesn't like to be touched. Hypersensitive to feelings on her skin, even more so than a normal horse, Arcadia is very aware of the effects that touch can have on a person, and she uses this in her artwork. All of her pieces use a lot of negative space, usually with a single focal point, distant from everything around it, which is the way she often feels: like she is a piece removed from play, all because touch is unpleasant to her. Arcadia's pieces often both comfort and unnerve her, because she relates to them and, at the same time, every time she compulsively makes one, she is faced with the horrible reality of how she lives her life. The only reliefs Arcadia has found are flying and swimming, both of which involve cool temperatures and pressure that is light on her skin. She has worked herself up to incredible endurance levels so she can enjoy these activities for as long as possible.

While not physically close to her family, Arcadia loves them so dearly that it hurts sometimes that she can't really be with them. Because she is so distant physically, she is very attached to them emotionally. She wants to know everything that has been going on with them all the time, wants to know them the way others can't, wants to understand them and love them for exactly who they are. This will not stop her, however, from scolding them for tearing up the ground every once in a while - she knows, after all, the impact that touch can have on anything, a well-meaning touch, a thoughtless one, or otherwise. She will likely be a mother hen. There will be some things that she knows that she cannot stop, though... Like the need to feed. Like many with kalona blood, Arcadia needs meat to survive. She can push her cravings away for months, but when finally she snaps, she snaps, and Vermillion is there to pick up the pieces and put her back together. They depend on one another for sanity. Vapor, on the other hand, is a good sparring partner - verbally, idealistically, and sometimes morally. She's not exactly sure whether or not she's fallen in love with both of them, but most days, she's pretty sure she has.

Father: Vapor
About: Vapor never had parents, and has led a very confused and angry life. He was never taugtht how to kill for his own food, and has struggled with the will power to do so. Even to the point of starvation. up until he met Arcadia, and she nurtured him to good health.

As a father, he's the "Yup, those are my kids." kind of stallion. Arcadia never imagined she'd have a fourth kid to raise, and has to keep Vapor in check just as much as she will their kids.

He's irresponsible, loud mouthed, and self centered. This is his first time being a part of a family. He's constantly over stepping boundaries, where Arcadia and Vermillion have to keep him in line.

When the foals are born, it will bring out a curiousness for the way a young soquili growing up expierences life. This coupled with the tolerance Arcadia and Vermillion give him, is all that keeps him around.

Mother: Vermillion
About: A rather complicated mare to understand at times, Vermillion can be sweet or sour. Depending on 'who' you're speaking with. She has a split personality disorder that has made life a little difficult. But her anchor has always been her best friend, Arcadia. She adores her and both personalities are in agreement on their feelings. Veri is the more protective and bitchy side of Vermillion, quick to judge someone and even quicker to leap to Arcadia's aid. She's part Kalona and can have a bit of a temper. However her sweeter side, Milli, tampers this down. She is quite bubbly and loves adventure and meeting new people! She was the extatic one when Vapor came about, so happy for Arcadia. Veri, on the other hand, was not so giddy. She did not trust the stallion (really, she still doesn't...) but gave him a little leeway since he was of Kalona blood. Though she does seem to butt heads quite a bit with him.

Vermillion is very excited about the baskets and the prospect of foals. Both personas. Even if Veri heartily denies this!

Baskets

Lunadriel: Far left; blue-purple with bejeweled bow. Female.

    Name: Resurrection Sinclair
About: The smallest and last-born, Resurrection will be doing a lot of taking care of her father - keeping him in line, making sure he's fed, following him around. As he has such an aversion to hunting for himself, she will do much of it when she knows enough, often performing rituals over the critters to send them to a blessed afterlife. The afterlife is something she is fascinated with - before she was placed in her basket, Resurrection was stillborn. Her parents managed to resuscitate her and quickly placed her within, hoping the magic would keep her safe and alive. Since then, she has claimed to have "seen the light" and speaks often of continuing on the path of righteousness, though she may not always know what that is.

Mahogany Sunset's: Middle; dark lid with gold markings. Female.

    Name: Adoration Sinclair
About: Adoration, despite her size, is a highly timid, skittish, and nervous mare. She is one of the quietest members of her family - where each one of them is as varied as the colors of the rainbow in their mannerisms and quirks, Adoration is nearly "normal," which is strange in itself. Adoration's only quirk is that she feels a necessity to have some kind of covering on her at all times in order to keep her body protected. She can feel safe behind her wings temporarily, but a blanket or scarf is better long-term; the best solution is for her to be graced by the company of a snake. Usually that means that she has one wrapped about her neck or coiled atop her withers, but having one spiraled about a leg is not unknown. If she ever feels threatened, her need to have some kind of barrier between herself and the open air increases, and she will become frantic to the point of hyperventilation. To solve this, she has learned to self-soothe: fluffing up her feathers and burying herself in darkness and warmth until she can calm down, after which she lowers her wings to let the world see her again. If someone approaches her while she is fluffed up, her automatic reaction is to part her wings and flash a threat of her knife in their face.

Adoration is very modest and keeps a low profile. Praise flusters her, and taking credit for achievements she's lauded for makes her bashful (and it's rare enough that most of her family will be surprised if she ever does take credit for anything). This is especially true of her art - where her mother is a minimalist, Adoration experiments with wild splashes of colors and dyes. She gets much of her paint from her mother's paint blobs and isn't afraid to get it on herself - it's just another layer between her skin and the outside world. Working on her art is one of the few ways in which she can express herself, and she experiments with as many mediums as she can.

Notes on the Sisters: Adoration and Resurrection's relationship is one of protection and teasing. Resurrection takes care of Adoration just as she takes care of her father, though the sisters are very playful. Resurrection will throw a blanket over her sister's back when she looks stressed, or shield her with her wings, and often talks up Adoration's skill with a knife when someone bothers her. However, Resurrection also playfully "cries wolf" every once in a while when there is no one approaching, sometimes merely to give her sister more attention. Even though Resurrection is the smallest and youngest of the bunch, she is the one who stands up for her big sister.

As for Adoration's side of the relationship, she is ever grateful to her sister for protecting her, since she knows that it is often Resurrection that her parents often think needs the most protection. She does not disagree with them, of course, and wishes she could do more to protect Resurrection, but if she is without a security blanket, she can be rather helpless. She shows her appreciation in her art, often painting her sister with materials she's made herself; after all, her mother does not have paint blobs that are the right color. She admires Resurrection's strength and grace, and shows it every way she can, though she is very shy about it.

Basket

Now that you've read thus far, here is the basket that is up for grabs:

User Image

We are looking for someone who will actively roleplay - or, at the very least, heavily plot with some light roleplay - their new basket. This foal will have some oddities to keep in mind: triwings and extra eyes, among other things. Make sure you are comfortable with roleplaying both of those before entering. The gender is male.

Please fill out the form below to enter.

Mad Hatter, or Just Mr. Hat?
Username:
Name: [Foal's name. If it has an origin, you may list it.]
Personality: [More than a one-word temper, please.]
Plot Ideas:

--------------------- ROLEPLAY SECTION ---------------------

RP Examples:
Bonus RP: [Reason for filling out: zero soquili or bonus points.]
Prompt: It's the foal's first solstice ceremony, and it's time to declare its commitment to the family! The foal approaches the herd's totem with the knife it has just been given by one of its parents, and it knows what it must do: make a little cut, bleed a little blood, and become part of the herd. What thoughts run through its head? Pride? Fear? Something else entirely, perhaps? (Take care not to god mode other characters, as regular soquili RP does not allow that without permission. <3 )

Response: [Respond to the Bonus RP prompt here.]

--------------------- CHARACTER QUESTIONNAIRE ---------------------

Questionnaire:
These answers aren't required, but we would like to see them!
Question: The Sinclair Family teaches acceptance of the kalona breed's darker impulses, but this child knows that Arcadia and Vapor both have qualms about hunting. How does the foal feel about hunting? Does it feel the need to hunt, or is its blood diluted enough that it can subsist on greens alone?
Answer:

Question: How does the foal feel about art? Is it creative? Analytic? Indifferent?
Answer:

Question: What kind of relationship do you picture the foal having with its parents and siblings? Is it attached to any one or few of them in particular? What about extended family?
Answer:

Question: This foal has discovered, after a little observation of several families, that its own family does not have quite a "normal" dynamic. Does this upset it, make it feel special, question things? Or can such a thing be brushed off?
Answer:

Question: Coming from such a complicated family can be hard and/or create bonds stronger than time. How does the foal feel about all the different idiosyncrasies in the group? Does it have any of its own?
Answer:
