Welcome to ALICE Online, the most immersive adventure MMORPG to date, utilizing a full-dive virtual reality system with the most customizable experience on the market. Decide your own level of realism by choosing settings to alter how your character experiences the world. Do you want graphic violence, with blood spraying as you charge into combat? Or do you prefer a more artistic style with less gore? How much pain would you like the system to allow you to experience? You can fully optimize your experience with the most realistic settings to date.

Beyond customizing your dive settings, ALICE Online offers a vest unexplored world, with treasures around every corner and a limitless number of playstyles. Choose your own destiny; will you be a noble warrior on the path of righteousness, battling the evils of the world? Or a wealthy merchant, buying and selling goods, establishing a trade empire? Do you long for a simple life, helping things grow, and bringing beauty to the world, or perhaps the life of a smith, forging arms and armor to prepare and preserve the heroes of the realm? Anything is possible in the new and exciting world of ALICE Online.

But you must beware of the dangers of this new world, as well. Monsters lurk in every shadow, and there are few places one might call 'safe' even tenuously. This does not mean that all is hopeless, though; forge alliances and bonds of friendship and you might carve out a place in both the world and its legends.

Welcome to ALICE Online, a world where you can find everything that you are looking for.

After you complete your login, you are brought into a character creation menu. You are informed that you will only have the ability to create one character at a time, and that when that character dies, you will be free to create another. You are reminded that roleplaying is strongly enforced, and that names must be comprised of roman characters and be roleplay appropriate. You have an incredible amount of freedom to create your character, so long as it is bipedal and no more than two-armed. After finishing your character, you are presented with a few choices as to your starting equipment: Light, medium, or heavy armor, and your choice of one weapon from an expansive list of weapon types. Conspicuously missing are any ranged weapons or magic options, and you are informed that dual-wielding is not supported. You are informed that your character is complete, and the screen fades to white.

You find yourself in a vast, white wasteland. You realize that you can see nothing. Slowly, you begin to make out a vaguely human shape, obscured by light.

"You are not meant to be here. There is much left for you to do. But do not worry. You will be back, when you are ready."

The light swells again until it dazzles your eyes, and you find yourself standing at the edge of an encampment, filled with tents and lean-tos where various merchants peddled their wares to the scarce adventurers that walked the paths between the tents.

In your hand is a journal. You look down and open it. In its pages, you find an entry.

I do not know how it is that I came to be here, or even where 'here' is. After awakening in this desolate wood, I wandered until I came upon an encampment amidst the endless trees. It is here that I found the first signs of life that I have seen since I was taken. Fortunately, I remember all of my life up to the point that I appeared here in these woods. The only thing that I know for sure is that I must move forward to discover the truth of this place. A man welcomed me to the encampment, and informed me that we were in the Gloomwood. He had asked if I remembered how I came to be here, and I told him that I did not. He had nodded and said that that was normal, and told me that I could stay as long as I liked, and that some had been here for years.

He informed me that there was only one way out of the Gloomwood that they knew about. Legends spoke of a labyrinth in the woods that would lead them to the next stage of their journey, but that it was so well protected by monsters that no one had ever returned alive from its depths. They have long given up trying to leave, and had grown accustomed to life in this place. So long had they waited here that their purpose in the great adventure had been forgotten, and even their names were lost to time. They knew themselves by their new duties, and performed their tasks without desire to venture forward any longer.

Some still held out a faint, wavering hope that someone would lead them to their freedom, and the stories said that those heroes would be immortalized, and that their names might never be forgotten.

I am faced with a choice, now, it seems. Do I venture forth and risk my life to lead the people who are unable to fight to the future? Or do I stay, and make myself as useful as I can, assisting others in their quests? Something tells me to consider this choice carefully, as death in this forsaken place does not seem the most welcoming prospect.
