➟ Emily's eyes fluttered open as the soft breeze caressed her cheek. She could hear the sound of waves behind her, rising the suspicion that she wasn't at home. Sure enough, beneath her was not the soft blue mattress she usually awoke on, it was a bed of grainy sand that itched at her skin. Slowly, she began to recollect the memories of the events prior. She was on a boat, sailing through the sea on a normal day. But there was a... storm? Yes, that sounded about right. They were hit by a storm, and now- wait. Adam. The young girl shot up, worriedly searching the area for her best friend.
Everywhere she turned there was sand and trees, but no sign of Adam. She began to shake. What if something happened to him? What if she was all alone now? "Adam!" she cried out. Emily tried to pull herself forward to look around, suddenly feeling a sharp pain in her right foot. She yelped and jumped down, holding her foot in pain. She removed her hands gently to see the damage, seeing a long cut across the top of her foot. It was have happened during the storm. It was then that she noticed the condition she was in. Her clothes were in tatters, and her hair was tangled and covered in dirt and grains of sand. She also had multiple tiny cuts around her legs and arms, probably from earlier. Her body ached and her head was throbbing, but she had to find Adam. She bit a piece of her sleeve and ripped off a small cloth, tying it loosely around her foot. She stood up and began to walk again, a little shaken. She called out her friend's name, waiting for an answer.

He awoke to a fit of wet coughs. Water began to leak from the corners of his mouth as the boy pivoted onto his stomach, planting his hands into the hot grains of sand as he spat the salty liquid out of his mouth. He took in a gulp of fresh air as he collapsed again, chest heaving as he rolled lazily onto his back and closed his blue eyes. His brown hair was matted against his forehead and the back of his neck. There was a cool breeze against his face--a major relief from the sweltering sun. He could hear the sea crawling onto the sand and, further away, the same monster dashing against the rocks. There had been one hell of a storm, he remembered that much. He and his best friend, Emily, were out sailing, and at first the weather had been perfect for the occasion. Then it began to pour. Thunder and lightening followed, the harsh waves began to rock the boat, and then they had been thrown into the railing. Adam had been holding onto her as tightly as he possibly could before the the waves got so abrasive that they were sent overboard.
"Emily..." he whispered to himself, jumping to his feet and turning his head in every which direction, which as a result made his pounding headache worsen slightly. "EMILY?!" he shouted, his deep voice reverberating all the way down the sandy beach. God, he hoped she was alive. If he found out otherwise he wouldn't know what he would do. Adam's feet, that were currently soaked and sore from his sopping wet Chuck Taylor's, continued to carry him through the sand as his voice--that was beginning to hoarsen--desperately called out his friends name. Minutes passed before a figure, that was blurred by the visible heat waves, came into view. He squinted his eyes and waved an arm towards the person, picking up his pace slightly. "Emily?!"

➟ A blurry image appeared on the horizon, though, Emily couldn't make out what it was. She pulled herself forward, placing her hand on her forehead to shade her eyes from the blazing sun. The figure began to move, and Emily could barely make out a voice. Her heart was pounding, hoping to God it was Adam. She started to move faster, soon confirming the identity of the figure to be her best friend. "Adam!" she croaked happily, running towards the male. She threw her arms around him, burying her face into his shoulder. She was shaking horribly, still quite shocked from the recent events. "I-I thought... I'm... what happened?!" she stuttered out. Her head was pounding from the heat and her body still ached, but she was glad to have found her friend. At least she wasn't alone.
She pulled away from her friend and looked him up and down. He was in pretty bad condition as well. Well, given they were in a boat accident and stranded on an island, they weren't as bad as they could be. She let out a tired sigh as her eyes wandered around the island. If they had been in a better situation, Emily would have called it beautiful. But it was also isolated. She couldn't find another person in sight, and all around them was ocean. "Where are we?" she said softly, looking up at Adam, searching for some small piece of hope.

Thank the God's, it was Emily. It was his best friend. "Emily!!" Adam shouted back, seconds before the girl ran right into his open arms. He could have kissed her, he was so absolutely relieved to see her. Adam embraced his best friend into his arms and held her tight, burrowing his lips against the top of her head. At this point he didn't care that she was sweaty and covered head to toe in sand. He was just happy that she was alive, and seemingly uninjured except for the small cuts and scrapes that matched his own. "God, I was so worried I'd never see you again," he breathed out. He, too, turned his head to take in his foreign surroundings. In front of them was thick, green forestry and behind them was a large body of water.
Adam sighed, shaking his head at Emily's question. "I don't know, Em." The boy licked his chapped lips, swallowing the little bit of saliva in his mouth. His throat tasted of salt water and it was utterly sickening. He looked over at Emily, feeling hopeless. "One thing I do know is that we need to find a source of water," he inferred, fixing his gaze upon the forest once more. "Food can wait." Adam didn't have a clue as to how one would survive in the wilderness given the same circumstances as them--no food, no water, no shelter. All he could do was follow his instincts, and as of current, finding fresh water was on the top of his list.

➟ Emily felt her heart drop as she further realized the severity of the situation. She didn't have time to grieve though, as Adam surfaced their priorities. She swallowed a bit of saliva, noticing how dry her mouth was. The intake of salt water was the most probable cause. She nodded a bit as she tried to stop shaking. Water was most important now. She rested her uneasy eyes on the forest, feeling a small itch of fear claw at her throat. She let out a small sigh. "We'd better get started then..." she said as she began to make her way towards the mysterious green.
As she stepped closer towards the dark ominous trees, Emily felt more and more uneasy. She had gone camping countless times, she wasn't usually this afraid of the wilderness. Maybe it was her condition that made her feel this way, the knowledge that she wouldn't be able to run in terms of danger. "How long do you think we'll be stuck here?" she asked her best friend as she stepped into the forest floor. She couldn't think of a lot of people who would know where to find her, considering she never told her family about these boat rides she often takes. They weren't very... comfortable with any sort of dangerous activities. Her family was much too urban for these sorts of things.
