A big problem with the roleplay here I've seen there is no organization and everybody wants to be the strongest fleet with the largest arsenal. I told myself if I was ever to come back, I would overhaul the roleplay mechanics and get a bit of order established. And the way I would do that would be with utilizing a d20 system hybrid of multiple rulebooks.
BasicD20
I'd prefer space combat to be coordinated in a similar mechanic to the Star Wars d20 rulebook. There'd probably be a pool of points to dump into a fleet of ships.
Star Wars Core Rulebook (Probably requires a download. Sorry!)
SW Arms and Equipment Guide (Probably another download)

Would probably require outside sources because Gaia's forum dice rolls suck and you can't see them until after you post. Contemplating roll20 for stuff like this, but it'd require people to make roll20 accounts. But it would have a board to actually play on!

More to add or mention later.

I was not fond with an RPG type of role play (D&D) a while back until I actually tried one. Once I understood the system and got experienced with it, It was actually very fun to create or recreate a new RPC that actually felt it was different from other peoples. You can create a lot of memories and bonds while you work as a team to kill a boss or dungeon and support each others roles in the party (I was the tank, super slow but had a lot of health and strength). I recommend that you give it a chance. When Apollo posted this I was quite excited to be honest and I hope you will adventure on with us and get some epic loot! blaugh

It just seems like turning online RP into D&D. (Yes, I know that's where RP as we know it came from, but ti's different from D&D now.) I dunno. Maybe I'll watch you guys do it and go from there.

Exactly! Once one becomes familiar with it, it's a cakewalk for them. It makes battles a little more interesting than just roleplay filled with counters, and eliminates godmodding completely. Plus the most epic moments I've experienced have been from D&D styled games.
Like rigging a TIE fighter with a piercing laser and nailing a stardestroyer's hyperdrive, causing it to implode in one shot. biggrin

Basically. And if someone does become op, at least people have a decent chance at kicking that person's a** still.

To be honest, at the local game stores I go to I see people play this style of space combat, Star Wars to be exact and coming from a community that uses space craft, I wouldn't mind trying something new out for a change just to see how the system works out. Just something I am actually open minded to.

The genre won't specifically be Star Wars. It'll just be the space mechanics I take from it, as well as gauging appropriate damage levels, shielding, etc.

I'll be looking into this. I judged several Gaia Military Space battles, and the usage of a unified system for ship stat tracking would greatly increase the "F.U.N." factor rather than having engagements simply be a race as to who can hit their numpads faster and pair the results with SI measurements.
